Ex-Eagle Jon Runyan Lines Up Against John Adler and I Was The Ref
What an irony. The man who was famous for short bursts of violent moves against would-be-tacklers takes to a new playing field. Across the political line from him is John Adler, the Democratic Congressman from New Jersey’s Third district. Adler passes and kicks and throws lightning-fast blocks against the famed Jon Runyan, his Republican opponent in November. Runyan, the tough blocker, is soft-spoken, sometimes almost to a whisper as he debates the veteran politicians.
This debate was so good that at what point I just listened to the two go at each other. Who needs a moderator with this kind of action? Adler accused Runyan of changing his mind about bailouts. Runyan, low-key of course, tried to link Adler to Nancy Pelosi, a favorite Republican tactic these days. The two agreed on most issues, but disagreed on offshore drilling. Runyan thinks the states should decide. Adler opposes any offshore drilling. The Tea Party never came up in this debate, and that’s because Runyan is hardly an extreme right-winger or libertarian. Ironically, the toughest criticism of President Obama came from his fellow Democrat Adler, who said he wished the President were more friendly to business.
Behind the scenes, there was something unusual in this day of extreme partisanship. Both Adler, a first -termer, and Runyan were extremely friendly and cordial. It is nice to see civility emerge every so often on the political gridiron.
The biggest surprise – watching the giant and broad blocker speak so softly, and witnessing the much shorter Adler come out so aggressively.
If you want to see refreshing political drama, tune in to the debate 9:30 Sunday night on the Comcast Network. The show Voice of Reason, and I host it. The program repeats Wednesday at 5;30.
The next debate, on September 12th, features Bucks Congressman Patrick Murphy, and Republican challenger Mike Fitzpatrick. This one could get rough. It was Murphy who defeated Congressman Fitzpatrick in 2006.

Waxing poetic today Lars. Nice to see you got this blog on a regular schedule. Problem is I dont know who the politicians are, sounds like you had at least one of your hands under the table during this debate! Ruyon is one big buck of an attractive man with a husky low decible whisper, I bet he had you in quite a state during the debate.
Disagreed on off shore drilling …..? That’s what they argued about? No drilling off shore for oil? Boy that must have really kicked the debate up a notch or two.
Larry, you forgot to mention the beatles, you kid toucher
Adler (and Murphy) like to call themselves “moderates” and talk a good game, and put forth a lot of verbal hand-wringing, but in the end they vote pretty much in lock step with 0bamaReidPelosi.
Please, please, please call Murphy on this if he tries to call himself a “Blue Dog Democrat”, “independent”, or “moderate”. He puts this in his press releases, and his friends in the Inquirer/Daily News dutifully parrot it.
He is far, far from a “Blue Dog Democrat”. Ask him how many times he has voted against 0bamaReidPelosi on any major issue. He hasn’t.
Stimulus, health care, immigration, gays in the military, etc. – he’s with the left on every major issue.
Wouldn’t you think a “moderate” would be 50-50, or even 60-40? Heck, 70-30 would be stretching it for him.
Obama is pretty good at soaring rhetoric, but where are the jobs? He has never created a job or made a payroll in his life. Revovery will come from private sector job creation at small businesses, not from governmnet programs and more entitlements. Where are such experts in his cabinet? Not a single one, all life time beurocrats. Obama is going to receive a “teachable moment” this November from the electorate, the question will be will he learn the lesson and change course before his presidency is over?
Larry, I’m hurt that you failed to take the opportunity to lambast Sarah Palin and I in this lamo, self serving piece. You are in serious need of help, Lar. Not to mention your spelling, grammar and syntax which you obviously neglected as a yute at PS203 in Bedford-Stuyvesant, you used the incorrect word 3 times in 3 paragraphs. You are a complete mess. I’m going to use the N-word on you, Lar. Yes, I must. Negligent!
Looking forward the reading Larry’s glowing review of Glenn Becks rally. It must really peeve him that it was so successful and positive. What exactly did he and Sarah Palin say that was so divisive and stupid? Over 500k proud hard working tax paying Americans showed up to show their support. I will guarantee you will never read a word about it from Larry Kane.
Dr. Laura: I find it more than ironic that you chose to bust Kane’s chops for poor grammar and you make a blatant error in your first sentence. It’s “Sarah Palin and me” (objective case required). Go back to your ESL classes.
Runyan came off as an inarticulate ex-jock who had clearly been coached out the wazoo and couldn’t ex-temp to save his life. But the political reality is that most voters won’t have watched the debate and wouldn’t appreciate or value the difference. If being articulate was always a major factor, then President Adlai Stevenson would have shepherded the space race…
Glenn Beck knocked it out of the park, and made Al Sharpton and company look like fools. Did big Al just forget to get a permit on MLKs big day? He then acted like a spoiled brat, what was he doing during he civil rights marches, he’s old enough, just never bothered to participate in real time, now he thinks he owns everthing connected to him. But for a large number of brave whites, there would be no civil rights. By the way, what ever came of the Million man March, where was the follow through on that? have black men become more accoutable?
Dear Asute Grammarian,
Thank you for pointing out my one error in grammar. I really do appreciate it. Compared to Larry, I am a freakin spelling, grammar and syntex genius. It is all relative. I’m going to have to call you the N-word. I have to. Negative!
All,
I was driving in Virginia on Saturday. I drove well around Baltimore and Washington to avois the rallies. I saw a bumper sticket that I thought you’d all appreciate. Well not Larry and Leo but the rest of you.
“Is it 2012 yet?”
Rx for America: Replace these louses in DC.
I think that says is all
While Barack was in MV working on his tan and preparing his impeachment proceedings defense, I was in nearby NH last week campaigning for a couple of real losers – Carol Shea-Porter and Paul Hodes. Both got swept in by the anti-GOP broom. Both will get swept out by the anti-incumbant sentiment. It is kind of ironic. Ahhhh the summer breeze as Frank Sinatra would sing. Both are complete liberal totties. Neither belongs in congress. I hate woman with the hyphenated two last names. No one gives a shit what your maiden name was. It is truly annoying.
Barack is such a pantload. This whole MV vacation boondoggle. What’s up with that? He and Chelle Chelle are planning their much needed Labor Day getaway. He has worked so hard recently. Here are my top 10 ideas for the First Family for the long weekend:
10) Fox River Prison in IL
9) Greenbriar Resort – Spa and Golf
8) Navy Pier in Chicago
7) New Orleans for real this time
6) Sea World – swim with killer whale
5) White House staycation
4) Visit In-Laws in South Chicago
3) Spain trip revisit
2) Cannes for film festival
1) Congress to scorn congressmen for being off and not getting anything done in Congress.
Biden/Tatu in 2012! Vacationing with the Rehomos
There is some pervert in a ponytail hanging around me on a daily basis. He keeps stroking my tail. He is creeping me out. Can anyone here get this perv out of my train station?
Philbert, is the guy with the ponytail stroking himself while he strokes your tail? Also, is he wearing sandals sporting hand woven bracelets of different colors, scraggy grayish beard, dirty cut-off jeans, and tee shirt with a Chez Guevara silhouette?
Larry while the battle was raging betweeen Adler and Runyun there was a lot more going on in the world. Two simple minded participants in a race to become a congressman is hardly enough to capture your audience, especially since most of us don’t reside in NJ. i did like the fact you took my advice and moved the commerial for your show up a day. But you need to do more of that kind of stufff if you wish to sustain this blog. Personally i would have zeroed in on the troubles with the DRPA or the PHA with that fat guy who sweats all over the place and brings home 400 thousand dollars a year pimping out construction projects. We’ve got some serious problems here Larry and you waste your time as a moderator for two stiffs………….
BK WTF you have nailed the guy. He was last seen driving off in a Prius.
Bumper sticker said “Obama Hope and Change”
The emmys were another example of Hollywood’s gay agends being forced down our throats. No question gays are here and queer, but way over-represented and the focus of jokes. /it actually went too far when even that crowd groaned at Methew Perry’s attemt at gay jokes. Its not a punch line to just look at someone and say “you’re so gay!”
All of this hub-bub about Obama’s muslim religion casue me to go to youtube to find the truth. They were just edited clips, but actual things he said, and there is no doubt he is promoting Islam as superior to Christinaity. It’s possible that its just part of his apology approach to politics, but any Jew or Christian who looks at those fawning speeches will realize he’s never said such complimentary things about Judaism or Christianity- period. There is no surprise that over 20% of
Americans think he is Muslim because of his own actions and words. If he is not a practicing Muslim, he believes it to be a superior religion to others, and he did practice it as a boy, clearly Islam is part of who he is. If one of his parents were Jewish he’d be viewed as a Jew no matter what he said otherwise, because he would be 1/2 ethnically Jewish regardless of what religion he practiced. They’d be saying he was partial to Israel. Well, he’s half Muslim and he’s partial to that culture and has tremendous respect for Islam- these are facts.
Obama came back from the vineyard
and is now channeling Ronald Reagan.
He announced that small business tax cuts
were necessary to create jobs! OMG, but
how does he square that with wanting to
reaise taxes on those making over $250k.
He still does not understand that those
are the people who own the small buinesses
that employ fewer than 50 workers. He just
does not get it.
Larry, your football analogies and references are rather childlike. “Adler passes and kicks and throws lightning-fast blocks against the famed Jon Runyan, his Republican opponent in November.” WTF Larry? That makes no sense at all. I may have been run out of town to the chants of “Joe Must Go” but I’ve forgotten a lot more football than you’ll ever know. Your sports acumen is low. Don’t embarrass yourself.
Did I ever mention that I was a big football star at Clayton HS? Fast and shifty running back. A lot like Barack. Fast and shifty. Giv’em a leg then take it away. I was pretty damn good but that was 50 years ago. I don’t like to dwell on the past. Too many skeletons.
Did you hear Barack talking about finally bringing our troops home from Iraq. War over. Iraq united. Job done. Democracy in MidEast. Satellite regime for US. Completed campaign promise. WTF? One word: Afghanistan. Why did it take 2 years pantload? Because it was a lot more complex than he thought. Kind of like the economy.
Now Barack after 24 months of inactivity gets it? Jobs are now job #1? Hello. Where has the First Pantload been? Oh yeah he’s been on 44 vacations. I see where he wants to export more technology. Great. Let’s give the Chinese our next great supercomputer details or the North Koreans and the Iranians blue prints for nuke missile delivery. The answer to our trade deficit is not exporting our secret technology and exposing our last advantages. It is reducing the deficit through fair trade practices. The First Pantload would not understand that concept. He is all about redistribution of wealth.
I remember watching a wretched Eagles team in 1968 at Franklin Field. Chants of ‘Joe Must Go’ rang out from all over stadium. Worst team in NFL. OT Lane Howell flipped the bird to the crowd. It was a proud moment in franchise history. Did I ever mention that I was a high school football star?
Biden/Tatu in 2012! Is it 2012 yet?
Booing and chanting at sporting events is a normal and healthy activity for most adults. It allows us to express our true emotions in the proper setting. Sports athletes are accustomed to this type of crowd behavior based on the direction or outcome of the contest. It would be naive to say that the crowd’s behavior has no influence on the individual athlete’s performance. Some athletes are affected greatly by the crowd. It is safe to say that in Philadelphia, the limits of an athlete’s patience and tolerance are tested. It is the Philadelphia fans; therefore, that should be tested for disorder.
“Runyan, low-key of course, tried to link Adler to Nancy Pelosi, a favorite Republican tactic these days.” Ah yes, another shot at Republicans. I would think that linking Adler to Pelosi would be the best thing the GOP could possibly do because Princess Nancy is one of the most disliked, influential people in the old school establishment. I get a chill up my spin every time I see here squirming on tv.
Hurricane Earl is going to kill hundreds this weekend!!!
I dont know what to do with all of my animals. I am running a large dog shelter and have 36 dogs and 14 cats. That cats are mainly to eat the mice and rats that are attracted by the dog food and feces. I am way over my head, but it feels great, because saving animals is virtuous and my liberal friends nod in agreement because I am a no kill shelter. I sacfrice evertyhing for animals, no matter how reckless or unsanitary, it is my higher calling and allows me to look down on others.
President Obama refuses to credit Bush’s troop surge as the reason for success in Iraq. What a spoiled loser, he’s a piece of liberal garbage to not be man enough to admit when he was wrong. This is a serious charater flaw in any leader, and it will really dog him in the future.
I’m into dogs! I like to dog people doggie style!
The Panderer in Chief was in El Paso yesterday at Fort Bliss (what an oxymoron that is). Too bad he did slip over to Juarez for some cheap meds or a donkey show. So close but so little time. Maybe the drug cartel would have put a cap in his ass. As he celebrates the end of the Iraq War it is too bad that Dave Petraus and W are getting no credit. It’s all about Barack. Another success story. Vote for me. I am your savior. And his address to the nation. I’m surprised he could squeeze it in between vacations. As Barack scrambles to get all his campaign promises completed before the November election let’s hope he does not prematurely ejaculate the troops from Iraq for political expediency. Let’s not undo the good done there and the lives lost there. Let’s not forget which President had the cojones (aka cajones, cojonoes) to implement the winning strategy that turned the tide. Not the President that ran out the clock. Pantload. Emptysuit.
I only hope the GOP can take full advantage of the gift that Barack and the Dems have presented them in November. My fear is that the GOP doesn’t get it either. More concerned with stopping Barack than their own agenda. John Boehmer is so cheeky that he reminds me of the swarmy Nancy Pelosi. I’m not sure I want this guy as my front man any more than Sarah Palin or Rush Limbaugh. As no one else rises to the fore I suppose we are stuck with Cheeky John through the November elections as the defacto leader of the GOP.
The Dems have done it to us doggie style for the last 2 years. Time for dramatic changes in Washington.
Biden/Tatu in 2012! Why can’t we be friends? Why can’t we be friends?
VP Joe is clearly changing stripes in the middle of the administration. He definitely has turned more conservative. He still has problems of verbosity and foot-in-mouth disease (like me :-) ) but he is seeing the light and moving away from the polarizing regime of Barack Hussein Obama. Kudos to VP Joe for stepping away from the darkness. There is clinical hope for this Delaware ambulence chaser.
Seeing Obaba on a military base was about as believable as seeing fresh fish at McDonalds. What a fraud. Complete tool.
obaba ? verbosity ? I like to dog people doggie style? charater? reaises? buinesses? LOL
I is the light and the salty snack crunch so vote for delisiousness! YUM!
delisiousness ?
Kid Rock is on the country music awards! Very cool, and so God Damn white! One of the few rock bands to support our troops and who actually went to entertain them in the middle east.
I may not be an expert on music but I am an expert on stuff that really sucks. Like Barack or Congress or the DMV or SEPTA. I think Kid Rock falls into that category. Really sucks. No talent. Looks like Scooby Do. Not sure what the attraction is. He must have pictures of someone. I will tip my cap to the Kid if he did in fact ‘entertain’ troops in Iraq or Afghanistan. Beyond that complete loser with no talent.
Since Larry lacks direction again on his blog topic and has resorted to self promotion and self flagellation it might be time for those of us interested in this country to change topics. Larry lives in a world that on contains 4 topics: the Beatles, SEPTA, parochial politics and free air. Sort of a 4 trick pony if you will. He can’t grasp concepts out of those realms. That may explain his mishandling of Sarah Palin. I’ll let Dr Laura comment on that as it is out of my area of expertise. Expand your horizons Larry. There is a brave new world of there. I’m sure you have read about it.
Barack has another real dilemma. He knows he needs to raise taxes to offset his incredible wreckless spending increases. He knows the GOP will crush him for increasing taxes in this horrid economy of which he has only served to further ruin over the last 20 months. No fixes. No solutions. No more blaming W. Just throwing good money after bad. Pantload. Emptysuit. Panderer in Chief. If he does not increase taxes the deficit will grow even faster as spending increases continue to grow. Very interesting dilemma. He has proven once again that the federal government can not spend its way out of a tanked economy. I’m sure he read about that at Columbia or Harvard but failed to make the connection. Pantload.
Hold on to your saddles partners because this sheriff is about to be blown out of town. Complete incompetence. Dangerous policies. Failed doctrines. No amount of pandering can save the First Pantload now. No gifts of citizenship to illegals will save him. No reparations for blacks can save his sorry ass. No more political appointments of inept minorities will buy him enough votes. Only the GOP itself can save this emptysuit with its own self flagellation.
Biden/Tatu in 2012! We love everyone.
Sarah Palin appears to be rocking the vote!
She has influenced several recent elections,
destroyed the Murkowski family!
I’m not a fan, but it is very disingenous for
Larry as a political observer not to take her
seriously. Her best skill is as a motivational
speaker and force to get out the vote, and she
is extraordinary at that. Now she is going to
Iowa…look out Larry, you are going to have to
swallow hard and take her seriously, she is real
whether you like her or not.
Looks like House and Senate will turn Republican,
Healthcare bill will be repealed and run away
spending will end.
Chris Christie has taken on teachers union, similar
to Reagan and Air Traffic Controllers. He will
be a front runner in 2012. He is no doubt a Christian,
as both his first and last names affirm that, no
confusing him for a Muslim!
The truth is that Larry and Sarah Palin are quite the same in many ways. Both are examples of what it is like to have a very narrow and naive picture of the world. Larry sleeps with his Beatle posters on the wall and Sarah has her poster of a moose plastered on the ceiling. Both of them think inside the box. To go beyond their familiar territories spells trouble. Larry doesn’t dare step outside the bounds of political correctness to speak the truth and Sarah simply toes the line of thought expoused by the hard Right. Nothing is complicated for these two. They know what they are thinking even before they think. Sometimes Sarah can’t put her thoughts into words but as long as she can write notes on her palm she’ll be OK. As for Larry……. his palm could be put to better use.
“As for Larry……. his palm could be put to better use.” Ed, that may be the line of 2010. That is classic! I never would have thought that of comparing Larry and Sarah Palin. I think they are both polarized to extreme party views. I think they are both seeking attention, recognition and validation. I think Sarah has a very narrow view of the world that a wannabe beauty queen could only get in the isolated outposts of Idaho and Alaska. I think that Larry has a very narrow view of the world through his rose-colored Delaware Valley glasses. Both think they are world experts but neither has a clue of what really goes on in the real world. Sarah dumbed it down (if that is possible) during the McCain campaign because handlers told her the homey act was working. Larry dumbs down his blog each week with spelling, grammar and syntax errors not to mention a 5th grade level writing style. Sarah is young and attractive. Larry is past his prime and smells like an old man. Good luck to both of them as they try to be all they can be.
I got a specail treat! I’m a good boy!
Have I mentioned what a lame and self serving topic this is? I like Jon Runyun and I hope he kicks Alder’s ass. Alder is another lame NJ Dem that works within the machine. Thank God for people like Runyun and Chris Christie taking on the rampant institutionalized graft and corruption in NJ. Christie taking on the NJ Teachers’ Union is like President Reagan taking on the Air Traffic Controllers. Sometimes you need to change the rules to fix the system. Ronny Reagan did it. Lets hope Chris Christie follows through. God we need a strong president in DC with the cojones (aka cajones, cojonoes) to take on the status quo and fix inherent problems with a common sense approach. Not to mention the bad legislature of the last 2 years. As opposed to the First Pantload tilting at socialistic change windmills and jamming unnecessary and unpopular legislature down our throats. It really comes down to 2 fundamental philosophies. Dems think government needs to be this big benevolent brother running and overseeing everything because the free market just wants to make a buck. The GOP views government run programs as too expensive and inefficient and poorly managed. Bigger government versus less government. Hmmm which would I prefer? I would prefer a government which would let me choose my own doctor and dentist. I’d prefer a goverment that lets me spend my hard earned dollars on what I want and not penalize me for being successful. I prefer a government that does not create a welfare system and encourage illegal aliens. You say I sound pretty conservative? Well I am and proud of it. But VP Joe you are the second highest ranking Dem in the country. Simple. There are more nitwit Democratic voters registered. Half are already dead but with Acorn’s help we were able to have them rise from the dead and vote last year. Not sure how they did that but God bless them. Also I like to spend money. That’s why I’m a Dem. Easier to get elected and spend money like a drunken sailor. Enough said.
See guys like Barack ruin it for the rest of us Dems. They get these grand plans for massive social change. They mean well but they carry it to the extreme. Like Roosevelt and Kennedy and Johnson and Clinton. At least Bubba had the sense to backoff in his 2nd term. What a pantload that guy was and continues to be! But Barack takes the cake. He is the ultimate First Pantload. Smug and condescending. Self righteous yet corrupt. Basketball playing elitest. Is it 2012 yet?
Biden/Tatu in 2012! Breaking into the open and nothing but green grass in front of us.
Actually Barack Obama suffers from what the spanish speaking Americans (push 2 for Espanol por favor)call Manolo Cabeza Huevo. The rough translation is head securely logded in the anus. Seems apropos under the circumstances. I mean both the spanish and head up the ass contexts seem rather apropos. Don’t you think? Now that is my heart speaking and not my clinical side. As a doctor of medicine, I would recommend taking 2 aspirin, drinking plenty of water and spending the next 2 years on vacation.
LuLu you are pretty tough on me for misspelling a word. “….espoused by the hard Right” is correct. s and x are very close on the keyboard and my fingers sometimes get all caught up in the palm of my hand. If we spent alot of time correcting Larry we’d never write about anything else. I used to use spell check, but since Larry doesn’t care to use it I say what the hell. Who nedds it? For that matter who needs you Lulu? You add nothing to the blog except space. I will say repeating the line about Chris Christie being a Christian should be the line of the year………
lulu love ed. he funny guy.
