Is America A Cartoon Festival? Also-Don’t Miss Lentz-Meehan Debate

It’s getting close to a cartoon festival – a bunch of characters that a comedic cartoonist couldn’t create.

This week you have Super Mama Grizzlie,  Sarah Palin defending the ill-mannered Dr. Laura for using the N word. Palin is one provocative leader, a real intellectual. Palin has walked the racial tightrope ever since she emerged from obscurity to ruin John McCain’s chances to be elected. She fits into the cartoon stereotype.

Then of course, you have Dr. Laura. Always a hate-filled commentator of questionable integrity, the Dr. is leaving her gig, she says. I used to respect her candor, but she has lost credibility by putting her foot into her mouth too often.

Enter Nancy Pelosi. Sources tell us that the Speaker has refused to back down on her legislation to force all CIA covert operations to be approved by members of the intelligence committees, even though the President promises a veto. With friends like that……

America’s enemy,  Julian Assange was in trouble, not just for releasing sensitive documents imperiling NATO forces in his leak-0-gram website, but because he was reportedly  sought on rape charges in Sweden. The charges were dropped, Sweden says hours later. They were not true.

The Mosque controversy is getting interesting, with word that the Saudi government, which  stood by while hundreds of its citizens turned into killers, is solicited for even more money to help build the mosque near Ground Zero.

And there are cartoon figures in sports. The Fools of Golf used the Rules of Golf to spoil the finish of the PGA Tournament. Whatever you do, do not put a golf club golf down in any kind of sand, even in miniature golf.

In baseball, the Met’s K-Rod may be done after hurting his hand in a domestic dispute. K-Rod is to baseball’s bad list what Roger Clemens is to federal investigators. For the cartoon characters in the news, words are as dangerous as fists.

Lohan gets more press than people who make good news every day, which is a blatant encouragement for young people to act out as a way of life.

Now, moving on to real news.

I moderated a debate between Republican Pat Meehan and Democrat Bryan Lentz for the 7th district Congressional race that encompassed Delaware County and small pieces of Montgomery and Chester counties. It was a refreshing moment. Both candidates were sharp and candid and avoided petty personal attacks. Message to Palin: Watch the debate. It is what a politician should stand for in  2010.

The program airs at 9:30 tonight on the The Comcast Network, and again at 5:30 P.M. Wednesday.

For those crude and belligerent writers who use the blog space here, and who accuse me of plugging my show, I say this: You are absolutely on target. Thanks for the praise.

A column about cartoon characters that excludes Obama ? Was he too obvious a choice ? Did you leave him out because he’s a Muslim ?

A column about cartoon characters that exludes Larry Kane?

Larry, you really seem to have a beef with Sarah Palin, the fact that she gets your goat to this extent tells me she’s doing something very right. I am not a fan of Sarah either, but to the extent she sides with Dr Laura on her right to free speech she is correct, it’s stupid to critize her for defending the first amendment. Do you even think through your opinions or just respond emotionally because everyone in your circle condems Dr Laura and Sarah Palin?

The mosque and interfaith community center should be built and if the Saudi government wants to contribute that’s fine. Would you care to restrict the Israeli govemnment or the Vatican from involvement in Jewish and Catholic issues in America? You didn’t have the courage to take a stand on the mosgue, but now you want to make inferences about the Saudi governemnet and call it “interesting”?

What do you expect? Cartoons are all americans can understand anymore. The american intellect has been dumbed down to the least common denominator. And that is reflected in our elected leaders and our “news” industry.

I can’t believe the Inquirer links to this site! I remember Larry Kane from back when I was a kid living in Philadelphia, cannot believe he’s still alive, he was the successor to the Great John Facenda- right? Or maybe it was Jim Gardner that took over for him. But I do remember watching Larry read the news, and do the weather at lunch time on Action News!!! I’d watch in the summer becasue I was waiting to see reruns of the Brady Bunch or Gong Show with Chuck Barris- remember that? Wow, cannot beleive I found this site!!! Does he write everyday or just a few times a week? Do you have to pay money to post replies or is it free, guess I’ll see when I hit send… LOL. I am such a corn hole, oh well, Good Bye God Bless, I miss Philly cheese steaks, pretzels and tasty kakes. I use to love to go to Reading Terminal market and gett chipped beef on toast from those old orthodox Jews from Lancaster County, is that still there? Dont miss all the crime though, my old neighborhood in far north east has turned all black, quite a mess they made of it, thank God we got outta there back in the 80s. I read Philly.com mostly for the crime stories, its better than crime novels becasue its so real!!! My wife thinks I come from a very bad place, but it use to not be that way, sorry Philly…I miss you sometimes…but not too much…San Diego is pretty nice!!!!!!!!

FMcS, Larry is a negligent landlord. He pops in once every 7-14 days with a new post. Each lamer than the previous post. This drivel is pretty characteristic of his work these days. He doesn’t even proof read his own stuff. You’d think he’d do it on word and use spellcheck or get some intern to proofread. Nope. He’s too lazy. He doesn’t care. Not the flashy and brash reporter from the 70′s. Possibly a burnout stoner. Blame that on his Beatles connection. Mrs Kanowicz would be so proud.
Say classy San Diego. Ron Burgundy is more relevant than Larry these days. Some Sunday night interview show on cable. Hanging on.
Go eat a taco but not a fish taco!

Nancy, 4 stars for Pelham 1-2-3. I’ve got The Hurt Locker here but foregoing tonight for Mad Men and Rubicon. Tomorrow night is The Closer. You have to love that.
Nancy, not sure if you are an old regular crossdressing or a new poster here. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt. Our Weeds connection is strong. See my post above. Pretty much nails this site. Furthermore, Larry can’t take a position on anything. Straddles so many fences that he walks like a cowboy. It is really embarrassing. We have tried to shame him into intelligent dialogue but take a look at exhibit A above.

Well the Obamas will be coming back from their 44th vacation this morning. Hope they enjoyed the Cape. Personally I find the Cape overrated. Too small. Too crowded. Too expensive. Kind of like Long Beach Island. Beach Haven. Avalon. All too croweded and too expensive. Too many New Yorkers now too. Looking to bagels and delis and real pizza. It’s the shore for God’s sake. You go to the shore to get away. Not replicate your local borough. I guess that’s why I hate NYers so much. They think they know better than the rest of us. Like Barack.
As the First Pantload makes his way back to DC schelpping salt water taffy and seashells he will already planning his next vacation over Labor Day. Maybe a quiet weekend in Camp David or a romantic getaway to Annapolis. Why not take an entourage to Greece? I hear it is beautiful this time of the year. And what a deal you can get for the drachma these days. Just because most of America can’t afford one vacation this year should not curtail your vacation quest at the taxpayers’ expense. Afterall you are the First Pantload. Panderer in Chief. Dope and change.
Phillies can’t seem to catch up to Braves. Must be frustrating to have a team with 4 aces ahead of you. You can’t trot out Blanto and Kendrick and Moyer before them and expect to make up ground. The Phils have been having trouble scoring runs and these jamokes have 5.00 ERAs. If the Phils hold suite and make the Wild Card, I like their chances versus the Bravos in a 7 game series with Halladay and Oswalt and Hamels. If Chase starts hitting and Ryan picks up where he left off we’ll be good. Can’t wait for October! Love to jump on the bandwagon.

    Biden/Tatu in 2012! We don’t do vacations.

  10. Dr Laura
    August 23rd, 2010 | 6:27 am

I think Larry has Mommy issues. Likely had a strong mother figure in his life that made him write thank you notes and wanted him to be a professional, you know a doctor or lawyer. Young Lawrence of Brooklyn was a repressed rebel waiting for his chance to break free of Mommy’s reins. He chose journalism, or should I say teleprompter reading, as a means of rebelling. He now hates any woman with a strong opinion. This explains his incessant attacks on Sarah Palin and now on me. Look in the mirror, Larry, you smug little bastard. There are women in this world smarter and more powerful than you. Live with it. See a real shrink. Resolve your Mommy issues.

“Always a hate-filled commentator of questionable integrity”. “I used to respect her candor, but she has lost credibility by putting her foot into her mouth too often.”
Larry, you little turd. Which part about me do you like least? I’m a woman and you feel threatened? I’m not afraid to express my opinion and take a stand? I’m helping people and giving advise as opposed to just reading a teleprompter? I may have foot-in-mouth disease but you are just a coward.

Pretty funny Ed! You must be one of those crude and belligerant writers Master Kane refers to above. THis blog has reached Berlin! My brother-in-law old me about it, also said lots of the guys who post here are gay conservatives a.k.a. Log Cabin Boys! Let me know how you swing- ah politically that is ;)

Also, what’s the deal with the Larry chap, is he a cabin boy? very smitten with the Beatles?? Is it true he was the fifth Beatle? never heard of him, but Berlin was pretty locked down back when I could have heard about him. What instrument did (does)he play?

BK, not sure about the conservative gays here but don’t mention spandex in any of your posts. It sets us off something fierce. As for my politics …… I’ve never voted for Ed Rendell, Hoe Sestek, and only once for Arlen Specter. In presidential races I voted against John Kerry, Al Gore and with some hesitation Mr Obama. As you can tell it all boils down to the lesser of two incompetents. The fact that I did vote for GW Bush and John McCain does not give me comfort. I would have just as easily voted for Larry Kane………

South Africa, what a beautiful place, and
tremendous level of racial harmony. I read the

two kids who didn’t think he moved fast enough.
Apartment dwellers with babies are assulted by
thieves as they enter their aprtmennts, etc, etc.
And Americans think South Africa has problems?

South Africa then it is for them to live in

Larry Kane why do you hate Saudi Arabia? Doesn’t it provide the gas for your bloated ego’s luxury automobile? Who is the one who gave money to the Saudis so they could fund the mosque? Point your high powered perception at yourself, sir. Of course it isn’t surprising that you’d smear arabs. It isn’t the first time.

Is Obama still up on Martha’s Vineyard? He must be because I haven’t heard a word from him for days. Shouldn’t this guy be organizing somewhere in Chicago on his days off instead of enjoying the privliges of the elite in this country? He said he is all about spreading the wealth around except the wealth he is spreading around is my wealth, and your wealth………. on Martha’s Vineyard.

Philadelphia is ranked #2 city for bedbug
What an honnor! However, philadelphia could

What is funny is that Larry lets us rant about anything between his weekly commercial for his local cable show. I don’t understand why Larry waits until the night before his show goes on the air to post his commercial. Wouldn’t it make more sense to post on Monday about the next Sunday’s show so that more people might have an opportunity to see it? That way instead of five or six viewers he might reach double didgits. Something to think about Larry especially now that the summer reruns are winding down. When the new Reality TV Season begins you can kiss those 5 or 6 people goodby.

Cab driver upon his arrest? Look it up,
Ray Kelly announced it tonight and it was chilling.

Its time to dial down the rhetoric on this mosque,
and Larry Kane should take a stand in support, its
the right thing and he knows it, he just lacks
    the courage.

Is there too much gay freindly stuff on television? It seems to me that almost every show has a reference or a charater. However, in my daily life I really dont come across gay and lesbian issues, almost never. They seem to now be oddly over represented and way too much in our face. Perhaps this is why the majority of Americans stronly oppose gay marriage. If you cant get California to support it with a majority, its not going to happen if left to voters rather than activist judges.

BTW LA, I heard what the stabber of the Muslim said, and I agree that its time to let them build the mosque and stop dividing the country with it.
