Beer Lovers and Parents – Watch What’s Happening Carefully
At first glance the campaign by Montgomery County State Senator John Rafferty, pushing legislation to allow beer sales at markets, and gas station convenience stores looks good. BUT NOT SO FAST!
As expected, Pa. Beer Distributors have been fighting for years to allow the sale of six packs. Harrisburg says no. Now, a powerful lobby, led by the big beer companies, has infiltrated the State Legislature, desperately trying to allow groceries and smaller stores at gas stations to sell beer. That could put neighborhood beverage distributors out of business. But there are bigger issues.
This is a story that is important to consumers and parents. Alcohol is now the number one drug of choice for teenagers in Pennsylvania. Selling beer along with gasoline is a recipe for disaster.
What will happen to beer prices if you can’t buy the beer in bulk, by cases, as you now do at beer distributors? What do area police say about the ease of buying beer at markets where checking id’s could be very rough? Rafferty talks about issuing licenses in mass. Who decides? Are we setting ourselves up for more corruption potential?
Why do I care? Because it’s another one of those Harrisburg schemes that look good, but avoid the issues of consumer pricing, and the public ‘s safety.
Will Rafferty guarantee that the enforcement will be so tough that underage drinkers will be safely barred from beer and drunk driving?
Parents, beer lovers unite: Don’t let this legislation slide through without checking the facts.
As the booze companies say: drink responsibly. I say: legislate responsibly.

Larry I am back for this one! I left this site out of anger last year because you could not control the site and would not require bloggers to sign in. A freind told me recently that bloggers here were referring to me, so i did check in to see what was up.
You are dead on corect with this issue. When the drinking age in Jersey was 18 in 1980s it was a joke with kids much younger crossing brides for alcohol. So now we are going to trust some tatooed pierced dip shit in a mini market in PA to enforce the law? It would hurt every community, city and sububan, across the state. Alcohol is a drug and PA residents don’t have a good history of using it responsibly, so why in the hell would we lower the bar to see what happens? The only guarantee is more DUI deaths from such legislation. You are dead on correct and I am willing to come out of hibernation to support you fully on this issue! Let us know how to petition effecively against. You have a real issue here Larry, dont falter and fade.
Larry you are wrong on this issue like every other issue. You are making a mountain out of a mole hill. You are proving that you are not more parocial and less big picture than you should/could be.
Understanding that the State Stores are in place to limit and control the number of outlets for alcohol. Understanding that the state’s biggest concern here is potentially lost revenue and wider distribution. Understanding that State Stores have an unfair monopoly on the sale of beer and wine. State Store owners get rich. The public is forced to make a special trip for booze. George’s point about dip shits selling alcohol to minors in convenience stores is correct.
That being said 90% of all states allow the sale of beer and wine at convenience stores and supermarkets. It is a convenience thing. Do you think PA is any safer than any other state? Not even close. This argument is specious. You are embarrassing yourself. At least you changed the topic. At least you took a stand.
Did you see Barack trying to look presidential in Massachusetts this week. He flies in for a couple of $1500 a plate rubber chicken fundraisers and gets talked into a 30 minute fly by over flooded areas of MA. His copter never hit the ground until they got to the Catastrophe War Room. Then he got out for a photo opp. And his Mini Me buddy Governor Patrick was in his hip pocket. Mini Me is a bigger fraud than Barack. Another Ivy elitest socialist with zero practical experience. Another beneficiary of EOE and quotas. Another looney liberal on a crusade. Mini Me is running MA into the ground much like Barack is running the US aground.
Mini Me is a joke but far less dangerous in the People’s Republic of Massachusetts. Scott Brown is the first decent candidate elected in MA since Mitt Romney. Maybe there is hope. Nah.

I can say this without any factual support. Hell, in other states, grocery stores, gas stations, and all kinds of outlets can sell beer. Just look at them. I bet about 1,000,000 drivers buy beer at gas stations and then have car accidents. Because if you buy a six pack at a deli here in PA, you’ll never drive anywhere with it. It’s only when you get it at a convenience store that you’ll be drunk or drinking and driving. These are my powers of logic that I gained through years of reading disaster stories and stories about murders and fires on TV. So be scared and don’t allow reform of liquor laws. Just go to your drive through beer distributor and get a case of drinking-and-driving proof malt liquor from the refrigerator. And guess what? Teens can buy beer in Pennsylvania. Sounds like we got us some lazy ass cops who aren’t enforcing the laws and some greedy beer distributors who not only lobby Harrisburg but also sell to minors. Yipee!
Also, it’s rough to check IDs at markets. I can say this because it’s so much more difficult to check them there than at a deli. I know this. It’s a fact. You can look it up. I would have looked it up, but I don’t need to because it sounds scary and therefore must be true.

Congress health care vote: a dark day for freedom in America

The passage last night of Barack Obama’s health care reform bill through the House of Representatives is yet another blow to freedom in America inflicted by the Obama administration. The legislation, which comes at a staggering cost of $940 billion, will hugely add to the already towering national debt, now at over $12 trillion. It is yet another millstone round the necks of the American people, already faced with the highest levels of unemployment in a generation.
It is also a great leap forward by the United States towards a European-style vision of universal health care, which will only lead to soaring costs, higher taxes, and a surge in red tape for small businesses. This reckless legislation dramatically expands the power of the state over the lives of individuals, and could not be further from the vision of America ’s founding fathers. It has also been rushed through Congress without proper scrutiny, in the face of overwhelming public opposition, and with not an ounce of bipartisan support.
Above all the health care bill is a thinly disguised vanity project for a president who is committed to transforming the United States from the world’s most successful large-scale free enterprise economy, to a highly interventionist society with a massive role for centralized government. The United States has thrived as a nation for over 230 years precisely because of its love for freedom and its belief in free markets.
What we have just witnessed is a massive slap in the face for limited government and the principle of individual responsibility. Its net result will be the erosion of freedom in America , and a further undermining of the country’s economic competitiveness. This may be a political victory for the president and his supporters in Congress, but it is in reality a defeat for America as a great power, and another Obama-led step towards US decline.

Lord Abott I would assume that a man of your stature and means would have a DVR. You realize with a DVR you could have watched both Larry the K and the Celebrity Apprentice. I would not be surprised if Larry missed this nuance of high technology but he is technology challenged. I’m surprised that a man of the world such as yourself missed must see TV. It was rather contrived and predictable last night. It was a scheduled execution of Blago. You could see it coming a mile away. First lets talk about the elephant in the room. No not Leo’s reluctance to reveal himself as the king of snarky puppets. I’m speaking about Tiger Woods appearance at the Masters. When they say this guy is an unemotional robot they maybe on to something. His ability to focus under pressure is incredible. Playing his best ever first round at the Masters under the microscope of the press is amazing. Have you read the Vanity Fair article? It is pretty insightful. Good reading. You get to see scantily clad photos of his posse of bimbos. Most aren’t half bad. Back to Augusta. He was not razor sharp – missed some 10 footers. He was pretty damn good. I really want to comment on the personal robot side versus the golf robot though. Tiger has been known as this egotistical narcissist with a curt and surly attitude. He ignored the crowd and other players. Basically everyone greatly respected him as a player but widely did not like him as a person. He was not fun or nice to be around. Like swimming in a shark tank. Well his handlers and damage control specialists advised Tiger to smile and be friendly with the crowd and fellow players. You could see him struggle to smile occasionaly. You could see him trying to communicate with his fellow players. You could see how contrived and ungenuine it was as well. Staged and planned. All about rebuilding the image. All about reclaiming sponsors. All about diverting Tiger Talk back to golf accomplishments and away from extramarital affairs. Go Tiger! Go Tiger! Sickening.
Just when you think you can’t hate the healthcare bill anymore another tidbit comes out. The IRS will look for proof of healthcare insurance on your 1040 or they will visit your house to collect the penalty for not having healthcare insurance. WTF? Woke up today and looked around. No bimbo next to me so I thought it was a dream. I started to freak out until I realized that I had a 10:52 tee off time. I went down stairs and again, no bimbo. Have you ever gone into a house where the ceiling had that popcorn effect or swirly lines in the finish? That’s what the demo is about today. Riveted to the TV today and tomorrow watching Tiger Woods stalk the field in the Masters. He is masterful as a techno golfer. He’s a totally transparent sleeze as a person but that’s what Barack keeps saying we want – transparency.
Tonight we are going to Ginos for pizza. It’s just a little pizza joint downtown but they make a mean Sicilian. Cut in squares from a square pan. Thick but crispy on the outside of the crust. Generous portions of sauce and cheese. Awesome. We get hamburg and mushrooms and onions on top. It’s pretty good plain though. Wash that down with a couple of Yuenglings. It’s like a little slice of heaven or Scranton.
Speaking of my hometown did you see where Steve Carrel of The Office is making yet another lame movie? Here is a no talent dude who struck gold with The Office. He was okay in 40 Year Old Virgin. Since then it has been a series of real stinkers. Is he at all selective or does he just have bad judgement? I like Tina Fey but this looks like another stinker.
