Soda Tax Might Fizzle – Blame For Israeli, U.S. Dustup
You’ve got to give Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter a lot of credit. Searching desperately for a way to fix the budget crisis, the Mayor found a way to close the gap and put Philadelphia on the map as a city that values health and wellness. He may be a real pioneer in that arena, but whoever said that good health was good politics.? After all, the analysis paralysis lawmakers on both divides in our Capitol have tried to chew up any attempt at a real health plan for months.
Nutter’s bid for a large tax increase on sugary soda came along with a proposed trash fee. Ultimately, less sodas would be purchased and there would be less trash. Maybe. But the Mayor’s ambitious plan has collided with a deep concern by distributors and workers that the big increase on sodas with sugar could cost plenty of jobs, and with that, more flight to the suburbs, not just to buy soda, but to find work. Our sources say that City Council, bowing to neighborhood and industry pressure, may never approve the legislation.
What’s the alternative? Perhaps a gargantuan increase in cigarette taxes. That’s a healthy move.
But the soda tax might be in trouble, and that means the tax and revenue efforts have to get to work quickly to fend off yet another crisis.
Israel-U.S.- Mishandling a Crisis
Have you ever seen a worse case of unprofessionalism than the dustup between Israel and the U.S. First of all, despite Israel’s bad timing on announcing new settlements during Vice President Biden’s visit, the U.S. reaction was bizarre. to say the least. Friends try to keep their crises private. It was strange when the State Department reported that Secretary Clinton chewed out Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. What was that all about? Then, Obama adviser David Axelrod, blasted Israel on the Sunday talk shows. Israel suddenly went into silent mode.
Look, here’s the truth. When a right-wing government in Israel is dealing with a mostly liberal government here, sparks will fly. But you need leadership to defuse a crisis, not steps for deeper levels of antagonizing on both sides.
Only one good thing may have come out of this mess. The Iranians , looking at Israel’s brash independence, may feel that the U.S. has lost control over Israel and that Israel mighty very well think of attacking Iran’s nuclear sites without American approval. Witnessing that fear on the part of the Iranian dictators would be worth the price of admission.

Philadelphia has a monsterous budget because of too many employees and too many programs and too many entitlements. A 20% cut in the annual budget is where Mayor Nutter should start. He won’t be standing in lines at downtown government clinics like the rest of us.

The hurling of racial and gay slurs in DC is actually very healthy. These minority groups do it all the time when they protest; cracker, honkie, breeder, to name a few. The shoe is on the other foot now. Gays and black are now in positions of power and they might swing the country in another direction so they need to take the heat from those who pay the taxes, raise the responsible families, and fight in the wars. Yes blacks are 32% of miltary but less than 3% in combat roles and less than 2% of dead and wounded in Iraq and Afganastan. Why is this? Why are there no protests that blacks are being disciminated against and under represented in combat fatalities in the current wars? The fact is they find ways to stay in the military and avoid combat risks, and/or are not up to snuff for the most elite and dangerous operations. The U.S miltary is the most color blind organization in the world, so why cant they be more fair in finding ways to get more of that 32% into dangerous combat?

Health care is going to pass, so time will tell if Obama’s gamble pays off. I noticed it was crafted to not come into full effect until 2014, so he will have a chance to get relected before its effectiveness can be fully known. It’s a great day for America! The insurance fat cats have been dealt a blow. People will have greater choice of physicians. If the GOP had played along, they could have gotten malpractice damage caps put in place, but they forsook the doctors’ lobby and decided to keep up the pointless obstructionism. This is still private medicine delivered via private insurance and private medical practices. Socialism failed. There is no public option. GOP cannot repeal this bill — they won’t have supermajorities, and Obama wouldn’t sign a repeal. Even if they tried, see how Americans like it when the GOP tries to allow insurance companies to deny coverage for preexisting conditions or to take children between the ages of 23 and 26 off of their parents’ insurance. That’ll go over really well.

There is the pre-existing condition reprieve which is very good. They will regulate the Insurance companies right out of medical coverage. Soon there will ‘have to be’ a public option. American companies are looking for any excuse to stop providing health insurance for their employees. One large corp does away with it and it will set in motion chain of events like you’ve never seen. Obamacare rushes in to ‘save’ the day.

OOOJ, but what about our GOP expansion of Medicare’s prescription benefit? That was the biggest expansion of an entitlement program in years. And we did it without funding the spending. The GOP is all about regulating medical practice. Remember how we tried to stop medical marijuana even when states voted for it? Remember when we intervened and tried to use the federal government to stop physician assisted suicide when Oregon legalized it? I cheered our leaders then. I’ll cheer them again from San Jose. We want all kinds of government control of healthcare. We just want it to be according to our religious principles, not secular principles.

2016 after they realized union and some
government plans are considered Cadilac.
When that time comes unions will scream
and that tax will be killed, further balloning the
cost of the plan and further directing the
tab to the truely weathly. The medicare tax
of 3.8 on investments will hurt those who form
Capital and create jobs. The wealthy are already
over taxed and this measure will kill even
more jobs. Poor people don’t create jobs, and
they don’t pay federal taxes, those making
under 50K with families pay nothing, they use
to pay about 13% in federal tax, even in the
1950s adjusted for inflation.
Smug people like Veritas should know better,
