Got A Call From The White House This Morning Denying The Sestak Claim
Fourteen hours after I played the tape for them, White House press officials called me this morning with reaction to the following story. The reaction: “The White House strongly denies the Sestak claim.” Here’s the original report.
It was just something I’d been hearing about from a variety of sources. Was it true? I didn’t know , but I decided to pop the question. Here’s the transcript:
“Larry Kane: I have a question for you. I don’t know how accurate this is but a lot of reports are that the party has tried very hard to get you out of this race.
Joe Sestak: Haha, yes.
LK: Were you ever offered a federal job to get out of this race?
JS: Yes.
LK: Was it the Navy Secretary?
JS: No comment. I – let me –
LK: Was it high-ranking?
JS: Let me just say that both here in Pennsylvania and down there, I was called quite a few times and all I’ve said is, look, I felt when a deal was made that it was hurting the democratic process, I got into this because I think that deal started getting us off the track of where the Democratic party should go. I would never get out for a deal. I’m in this for the Democratic principles and working families.
LK: Okay, but, was there a job offered to you by the White House?
JS: Ye-
LK: That’s what I want –
JS: Yes. Someone offered — yeah.
LK: It was big, right?
JS: It was — never — let me not comment on it. We had a closed comm–
LK: Yeah, but you’re going all the way.
JS: I’m in this all the way for the working family. Look, I love the Navy. It’s the best thing I ever did in my life except get married. It took me 8 years, I proposed to my wife, 8 years later she said yes. And have my beautiful daughter. But this is the next best job — to pay back this nation for having had those wonderful years in the Navy–
LK: Well, we’ve run out of time with the best question I had.”
Was I surprised? A little. After all, I was just probing.
Two hours later, I called the White House press office. I played the tape, and asked for a reaction. That reaction came this morning, 14 hours later.
Sestak is behind Specter in the polling. But it could be a tight race at the end. The White House is backing Specter, who switched parties last year. Sestak is well financed.
THE ATTACK IN AUSTIN
Some broadcast analysts seemed relieved that the airplane attack in Austin , Texas, by an obviously deranged and angry taxpayer, was not a terrorist attack. But it was. Any time a human being intentionally attacks an office building, or innocent civilians, it is an act of terror.
Terror comes in many forms. The situation in Austin was frightening. Was it an attack on America? Any act of raging violence designed to kill and maim, for whatever reason, is sheer terror, whatever the motives.

Well, it looks like that old dog Larry
Kane still has it going on, he broke some
News in the 21st century! I think this is
definately newwsworthy Larry and I commend
your work. I happen to be a huge Sestak fan
so I believe him, and it does make sense, this
primary will be Democrat’s waterloo. Can’t
wait to see Spector go down in flames, talk
about old dogs, his time is long past!
If I could just add, that when Spector was
on your show it was very clear he wanted
Sestak to stay in House. Arlen is terrified
Of the challenge, and after selling his sole
to turncoat on Republican party he is now
going to pay the ultimate price. I don’t believe
White House denial. Larry, I want you to be
like a dog with a bone on this story. It’s
yours, own it. Run with it!
You forgot to mention the beatles
[...] The White House on Friday morning denied the report, but there's no denying that party leaders are worried that an expensive and bruising primary could weaken whoever wins in the race against Republican Pat Toomey in the fall. And anyone who knows White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel would not be surprised if the savvy politico had at least thought of this idea. [...]
Good scoup Larry
Larry Mendte is coming to WPIX Channel 11 in NY, its the WB channel. He’s going to do a commentary, the first about Tiger woods airs tonight. I’d like to see it since he lied to and cheated on his wife, maybe he is uniquely qualified to opine. He has fallen pretty far to have to take such a job, but its better than minding the kids and changing diapers.
Larry, congratulations on your big get! I was in NYC today and was telling everyone about it and notified Bloomberg News to pick up the story, so don’t be surprised to hear from them. This senate race will have the national attention that Scott Brown got in MA, and your story will set off a wildfire, great work! I think you should be chosen as the moderator for their upcoming debates.
Larry, now that we know the White House will stop at nothing to advance their agenda, does it make your blood crawl? These people play by Chicago rules. They bribe Senators for Health Care votes, why not bribe a PA congressman with a job in the Pentagon for taking a dive his Senate election? The mob rules Washinton and obama is the Don. Well his henchmen rule Washington and Obama is the front man.
Larry Kane is the toast of the town!
I give you a hard time Larry, but always
in good fun. I was pleased to see you break
some big political news today, its being
picked up all around the country!
Just watched Larry Mente first bit on the WB
On WTIX. He was in a black leather jacket in
a bar talking about how guys can’t talk about
how hot Tiger’s mistresses are. It was pathetic!
Not funny, and painful to watch given that this
guy was a filanderer mocking a filanderer. If
Mendte checked his email 500 times a day, I’m
certain he will be checking in here to see
why Larry Kane was in the news today and he will
certainly be reading this. Larry Mendte, your
commentary sucked, you diminished yourself and
looked like a fool on the crappiest news program
in NYC. This is not how to make a comeback,
quit now before anyone notices what you are
doing in NYC.

Larry, You stated that you had heard comments about this offer from several sources. It would help to make those sources known to be sure this wasn’t a “trap” laid to throw Sestak’s campaign off course, especailly since the Rep.have now asked for an investigation which could require Sestak to comply with hearings, etc.
