Talk About An Advertisement for Democracy – And A Return To Channel Three

Isn’t Democracy beautiful? Supporters of the big health care  overhaul are upset about Scott Brown’s dramatic Senate victory in Massachusetts. Opponents are elated. But the bigger story here is about the power of the people and the President’s reaction.

Throughout our history, powerful people have taken their lumps at the ballot box. The President took his on Tuesday night, just as the GOP Congressional leadership got theirs in the 2006 elections.

In the Bay State, known for its Democratic establishment, the people simply rebelled against a smug Democratic candidate. They also embraced a young and moderate Republican who found a message. I’ve always felt joy at the ability of voters to send messages.

To his credit, Obama didn’t climb into a hole like George W. Bush did after 2006. This time, the President got the message and changed direction, seeking a scaled down health reform package. That’s a good piece of business, and puts the GOP back on the spot.

POLL SHOCK

I was stunned this week at several national polls that showed a public perception of President Obama doing more for banks and big business than middle-class Americans. The bailout and Treasury Secretary Geithner’s role in it are still issues. The President might do well by asking Geithner to resign. He’s a bad communicator, and has been less than forthcoming about the AIG loans.

A WHITE HOUSE WEB APP?

Is this the future of news? There is now a WHITE HOUSE WEB APP. it’s free and offers “live streaming” of major events, briefings and more. Try it. It takes you inside the world of government.

BACK AT CHANNEL THREE-

I’m rejoining Channel Three, CBS 3, just for a few minutes. In my first appearance at the station since I left some years ago, the station has invited me on the Talk Philly show at noon today. The topic is my series of 12 shows on the Beatles at the Franklin Institute. See above. It will be nice to see old friends.

Sir Larry of Laughalot, you have missed the mark again, mate. The Democrats, and particularly President Obama, were forced into changing their backroom dealing, jam it down your throat, socialistic health care bill for all strategy. They had a full scale revolution on their hands. It won’t end with the health care bill. It will extend to their entire socialistic agenda, mate. This regime would have been toppled if they had pushed forward. Sacked and sent home like a bunch of naughty school children.
They are sounding like they are taking the high road when in fact they are relieved that they have lost their majority, mate. They can put the pressure back on the GOP. Continue to blame the minority. Continue to blame the Bush administration. Afterall, Democrats are the party “of the people”, or so they say and think. They do “good” things, mate. Like drive a grossly unpopular health care bill right up America’s ass with no lubricant. They were thwarted in Massachusetts. I don’t think the revolution is over, mate. I think voters are tired of spending and no results. They are getting sacked in November, mate. Regardless of how conciliatory they are sounding now. They want to appear as though they get it, mate. Like you, Larry, they don’t get it and never will! Just like England in 1781. It is over, mate.

Waiting for the 7:01. Late again.
Wow, I was in some high level Cabinet meetings yesterday trying to determine how to react to the debacle in Massachusetts. A very somber crowd. Many updating their resumes during the meeting. They sensed that the massive socialistic overhaul of America that they so desperately wanted to impose on America was coming to a screeching halt. The wheels of the liberal legislature machine were coming off. The world as they knew just 2 weeks ago was spinning out of control like a car on ice. Those Cabinet and Party members that recognized that the socialists’ party was over advised turning into the spin. Avoid controversy. ‘Listen’ to angry Americans. Appear to get it. Downscale their massive socialistic agenda. Save their cushy high profile jobs. Save their massive government retirement. Turn the tables on the GOP. Make the GOP look like they are now the problem in DC.
Barack was not buying the end of his socialistic agenda and crusade. He advised to steer away from the spin. Take America head on. Ram home the healthcare bill. Show progress. Reap benefits. Regain popularity. And take his rightfully appointed place in US history. No he does not get it.
Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi warned of a mutiny of Dem congressmen now facing re-election in November jumping off the heathcare bill sinking ship. They would not sacrifice re-election for the party or this turkey of a bill. They would go rogue and distance themselves to save their seats. Reid and Pelosi said they could no longer guarantee a majority vote in their respective chambers.
After Barack threw a typical hissy fit (a daily event now that he is no longer getting his way)and called them all cowards and losers he listened to Cabinet member after Cabinet member advise him to take the high road and sound humbled and accept the fact that a dramatically reduced healthcare bill was better than utter defeat and no bill at all. After hours of deliberation and brainstorming and strategetic analysis and focus groups they finally convinced Barack that it was a lost cause to shove the bill down America’s throat.
So as hard as it was for the condescending and elitist Barack to sound contrite and penitent and compunctious he put on his best act. Seething with pent up anger at those that had failed him and at an ungrateful American public he made nice and sounded like he got it. Let there be no mistake. He does not now nor will he ever get it.
    Impeachment! Let freedom ring!
Get this inept teleprompter reader out of Washington. Storm the White House if necessary. Take him out by impeachment. Take him out by force. Send him back to what ever country he came from. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Impeachment in 2010! I’m tanned rested and ready to take office.

I liked your post today Larry except for
Unnecessary swipe at Bush “going into hole”
after 2006 election, it didn’t happen and
you say it in a dirty disrepectful way, its
liberal bias, pure and simple. You have never
spoke of a Democrat going into a hole. After
Specter loses, he will go into a hole, a hole
In the ground to bury the old codger!

I mean it’s only been 36 hours & there’s already a sea change ? Larry,it’s a bad bill & it should be dropped,period.End of story.

Larry, you should try to get a regular
gig doing a commentary on CBS3 or NBC,
since Comcast just bought them there would
be no conflict with your Newsmaker show.
However, you have got to touch up the grey
and do not allow shots from the back where
Viewers can see your shocking bald spot.
I know you can’t stay youthful forever but
there is clearly more you can do, you are
not Jim Gardner with the natural beauty no
matter how much he greys or balds, you need to work
at it my friend, spend a feww hundred on a
good stylist before you pop up on CBS3,
you will thank me for it later.

I did not see the infighting and gnashing of teeth yesterday after the election results on WHITE HOUSE WEB APP. Do you think they are controlling the content? Is that the future of television? The government controls what you see and what you don’t see?

    January 21st, 2010 | 9:46 am

I haven’t seen where 0bama is “seeking a scaled down health care package”.

From what I have heard from him, he wants the House to just pass the Senate version so it does not have to go back to the Senate again, thereby bypassing the new makeup of the Senate (and the will of the people).

If the Democrats do that, it will get them an unpopular health care bill, but they will take another big hit at the polls in November.

  11. Inglorius Bassturd
    January 21st, 2010 | 11:10 am

Nathan Tardstrap, the will of the people is a bill that was passed 60-40. How does the will of the people change if the margin is 59-41? The 41 vote minority sets policy? What? Are you huffing spray paint out of Larry’s basement?

  12. Fish Filet
    January 21st, 2010 | 11:28 am

IB, sounds like another bitter liberal revising the truth to fit their needs. 60-40 was based on voting by officials elected 2008 and before. If all these characters were up for reelection today, that margin would like change to 5-95 based on current climate of disgust with Democrats trying to jam this bill down Americans’ collective throats. Wake up and listen to the people speaking. You don’t get your way just because you still have a majority until November.

  13. Inglorius Bassturd
    January 21st, 2010 | 11:41 am

IB, Democrats can only blame the GOP for so long. That ship sailed 6 months ago. The Obamanation created by this administration is running the ship aground. Things have gotten much worse over the last 12 months, not better. Democrats had a majority and accomplished nothing but pissing away trillions of $ that we will be paying for in taxes for years. We got change allright.

Goldman is paying tens of billions in bonuses this year thanks to Bush economic policy of 2008. Like Greenspan said, the first two words of too big to fail are “too big.” Populist resentment is directed at the banks and you can bet that’s the Dems’ next target and will harness that anger against GOP fat cats.

SEPTA holds Goldman shares and has sued Goldman for lavishing excessive bonuses on its executives. Those tens of billions should be going to the shareholders, not the executives. Larry, most people work 40 hrs a week, come home and take care of their family, pay their bills, tend to the mundane upkeep of their household, have dinner, sit down for a minute, then they have to dig into the complexities of our government. There is no way an average person is going to understand the nuances and perpetual infighting of our government representatives. That’s why a vote like Tuesday is more than the people rebelling against a “smug” candidate. Wake up Larry!!!!! No disrespect but that was the most condescending review of an election that I have ever heard. This is your business, and you’ve proven that this business is beyond your apprehension.

Waiting for the 7:01. Late again. TGIF.
Washington is spinning out of control after the debacle in Massachusetts. So much spinning going on I can’t help but feel dizzy. I may need a gyro before this is over. I got to get my bearings before the weekend. So much spinning going on. So many pundits and so little time.
Ahhh the weekend. Breakfast at Maggies. Demo at Home Depot. Rumor has it this week is on replacement window installation. More shimming! I love shimming! Dinner at Deep Blue Bar & Grill with the kids. Love that pan seared skate wing! A quiet night in front of the fire with Jill and Champ. Maybe I get lucky. Jill goes to bed early and I get to watch SNL and play fetch with Champ.
Sunday is NFL playoff day. I hate the J-E-T-S but I hate Peyton Manning and the Colts even worse. I was sick a tired of Brett Favre 3 years ago. Now he can’t lose fast enough. I guess I’m pulling for the Saints. I like Brees. It’s more of a process of elimination. Now that the Iggles are playing golf in Florida what else can I do? Maybe Fat Andy Reid will stop by the Del Boca Vista in Boca and visit Larry. That would be nice. Bring Cheetos and winecoolers Andy.
I got a working lunch today. I wonder who will cater the lunch? I hope it’s the Prime Rib. I love their open face shaved prime rib sandwich better than Philly cheesesteaks.

Looks like Obama knee jerk rectation to MA
loss is to change topic to populist outrage
at bankers. No doubt some reform is needed
but sweeping changes that eradicate profits
will cut tax revenue and drive the opportunities
to non U.S. banks. He sounds like he is going
to over-correct, which will cost jobs and
hurt the recovery, but it appeals to his
political advsiors and he is growing desperate,
espeically if healthcare fails, its one termer
    time.

Scott Brown is relatively unknown, but has
a lot of statewide experince. Can you imagine
electing him president after he serves the next
two and a half years in Senate? Yet that’s
exactly what happened with Obama… Mind
    Boggeling wave of white guilt!

Republicans aren’t thrilled with Republicans. A CBS News poll showed only 55 percent of Republicans hold a favorable view of their congressional delegation.

And voters also still don’t trust Republicans with big decisions. A recent Washington Post poll found 24 percent trusted congressional Republicans to make the right decisions for the country — 8 points fewer than Democrats and 23 points fewer than Obama.

“Scott Brown didn’t even really run as a Republican,” Dowd notes. “He ran as an outsider.”

Looks like Obama is back on the campaign trail again. That speech today brought back fond memories of the last race for the presidency. Doesn’t he know he won? Yo, Mr President I don’t want to hear rhetoric any longer I want to hear concrete solutions to our problems. I know you’re fighting for us but I’m not sure who us is. If us is the disenfranchised and low income then tell us. If us is the struggling middle class, then tell us, if us is the big banks and major auto manufacturers …… oh that’s right that is us.

Democrat Barney Frank went into a hole after
FNMA failed. It seems the failure of the GSE
after legislation he sponsored to force them
to lend to unqulaified borrowers caused Frank
to want to go deep into the A-hole of his
Boyfriend at FNMA. Frank thought his boyfriend
would benefit from making more loans and it
would make the boyfriend want to go into Barney’s
hole. This is an example of a Democrat going
“Into a hole” after a bad political outcome.

Spector will hopefully go into a hole in the
ground after losing. Obama will go into a
black hole in space for his crazy proposal
to limit profits at banks. Larry has never shot
a hole in one on the golf course, as you know
he would have written a book about that fateful
day when he and the other boss jocks went out golfing
In 1969 and low and behold- a hole in one!

  28. VP Joe from Scranton
    January 23rd, 2010 | 8:11 am

Hi all. Getting ready for a big day. Thought I’d get this off before I got too busy.
This whole going after the banks thing is Barack’s feable and thinly veiled attempt to divert attention from the debacle in Massachusetts. It also is his attempt to tap into the anger that is running rampant in America right now.
Here is where Barack has ‘jumped the shark’ as good friend Jack Russell would say.
The American people are angry at him. They voted for him expecting positive change. Make America a better place. A kinder and gentler America. A place we’d all be proud of. Rebuild our economy. End the wars. Fix the mess left by Bush and the GOP.
They have been badly betrayed. Not one thing is better. You can argue that EVERYTHING is WORSE. The economy is in shambles. Housing market in the tank. Banks still running amuck. Unemployment at epic proportions. Shoving a socialistic agenda down our throats. None of this was on the minds of Dems and particularly Independents when they held their collective noses and voted for Barack in 2008. They feel betrayed and they are very angry about it! Bait and switch.
Now trying to capitalize on the Scott Brown phenomenom and divert attention to bank rage? I don’t think so Barack. Not in your wildest dreams. Talk about full transparency! This ploy is about as transparent as they come.
People are outraged at bank officials taking huge bonuses after taking TARP money but they are madder at the administration for letting it happen. It’s like a Bernie Maddof scheme.
Barack throw in the towel. You have been exposed as the complete fraud and chameleon that you are. You can’t fool us anymore.

Impeachment in 2010! End of an Error.
