Fast Change In Iran Policy – In Philadelphia “Cops Are Us”
It is, without question, a sea change in the policy toward Iran. Outreach has been replaced by outrage in advance of upcoming negotiations, and for good reason. The Iranians have been caught and exposed as outright sneaks and militarists, and now no one, liberal or conservative can deny it. The admission 0f secret tunnels housing a second enrichment center for uranium came as no shock to American intelligence sources. But it was confirmation of a dangerous regime, run by dangerous people, who must be contained. Therefore, the ultimatum by President Obama. Make no mistake about it -crippling sanctions are coming. If they don’t work, you can expect some form of military action within six months. but not unilateral action. This will be a full allied press. The key for the NATO allies is to get to Iran, with pressure or bullets, before Israel goes it alone. The Iran nuclear chief welcomes an inspection, but no date has been set.
HARRISBURG FOLLIES
New reports indicate that a tax on charity raffles may derail the budget package in Harrisburg. We’ll see about that. But I have a piece of advice for lawmakers: don’t mess with volunteer fire companies. They are the backbone of most of our communities, and many of them are dependent on charity raffles. That also goes for thousands of other non profits in the state. And how will the state enforce such a tax?
COPS ARE US!
The recent crime fighting stats prove a point. With reduced numbers, and frightening challenges, the men and women of the Philadelphia Police Department are as good as they get. The leadership is more practical and the forces are well distributed. The problem is the same as its been since the end of the Rizzo years: not enough police on the street. But the ones that are there are working their backs off to keep the city safe. That’s something we should not forget as we go about our way every day. I write this on the same weekend of the Hero Scholarship Thrill Show, when we remember those who paid the ultimate price in our police and fire departments by raising money to help send their kids to college. It’s the least we can do.

Fate has teaken us to Oklahoma but we will be back on the east coast when we retire (when ever that may be) More news outlets but less factual reporting. You know its a bad night when the first thing you want in the morning is an Alka-Seltzer. Pop-pop fizz-fizz oh what a relief it is. I had the Captain’s Plate at the Big Fish Grill last night. Larry the problem is that the Bush Administration made no bones about saber rattling with this nutjob Ahmadinejad. That is all a bully knows. Force versus force. The problem is that Barack thinks he’s the National Apologist for the former administration. He thinks he can talk things out. Maybe invite Ahmadinejad and Netanyahu to the White House for a beer to smooth out their differences. The National Apologist is pussy-footing around with a very bad dude. He needs to be tough not contrite. He needs show force not try weak economic sanctions. Sanctions just give Ahmadinejad more time to build up his nuclear arsenal. Clearly that is not what Barack wants is it? As a Muslim we never be quite sure what Barack is thinking.
Listen you have to remember Barack is an elitest. He’s never had to contend with bullies. He thinks every disagreement can be settled with a gentlemenly debate. He thinks it is about getting both sides to comprehend the situation and congenially compromise in the spirit of cooperation. He’s like the Duke brothers in Trading Places – aloof, naive and clueless but in a position to ruin lives. This guy is in so far over his head that his head is spinning faster than the Linda Blair’s in the Exorcist. His constant apologizing makes me want to projectile vomit as well.

Voluteer Fire men lover their jobs and enjoy beef and beer and the club house the local fire department offers. Its a place to get away from their wives and if push came to shove they would not only volunteer, but would pay dues to be volunteer firefighters. So carving out a special preference for them is idiotic, it the state wants to tax raffles the tax all or non. The Catholic church is the king of raffles, so if we exempt fire departments then surely they should be exempted. Why not cut spending so they dont have to ta raffes? Oh wait, that would be too fiscally responsible and would reduce wasteful state spending.

I think I’ve done it here. I can’t tell you as it would be prematurely announcing some big news. I think I’ll be bringing back the 5 rings if you get my drift. Bob Costas will be happy. So will Michael Jordan. That’s all I can say for now.
To those of you that think that I’m off on a boondoggle while the health care bill flaps in the wind and my good friend Mahmoud Ahmadinejad fires off missiles, I say what would I be doing in DC that I can’t do here? Michelle and I are taking in the city and hang’in in Tivoli Park. Very nice except for all the drug dealers. Hans Christian Andersen never expected this. Needles everywhere.
No one likes to see sausage being made but it is a perfect metaphor for the current administration’s style of governing, except that someone lost the recipe. Obama is all over the place spending, speaking, and spying. I know he can do more than walk and chew gum at the same time but he is trying to do more in his first year as president than all the presidents that preceded him.
This is so difficult to watch that I’ve given up on following the news. I now confine my TV watching to strictly Law @ Order shows. I made one exception and that was to watch Tom Delay do the cha cha.
Too bad we no longer have real local TV. Except for the news and sports commentators we have no personalities any more. And to think that a Chris Wheeler or a Howard Eskin is a personality. It gives me great pause, especially when the name Cataldi comes to mind. And that Fred Sherrrrrrman, may he rest in peace. UGH….. If fact Fred stole his “unique” sign off form a guy named Sandy Starobin. I remember as if it was yesterday “This is Sandy Starobin reporting form Harrrrrisburrrrrg.” I couldn’t stand that either, but at least it was his own.

See where Barack took Michelle to Denmark with him. It’s not bad enough that Barack was dispatched to Copenhagen by Mayor Daley but taking the ball and chain. What did Michelle need to go to Denmark for? A collectable spoon? Illegal drugs? Haagen Dazs? Couldn’t Barack have had an aide pick it up for her? It took 4 747/757 planes for this boondoggle. US1, US1 decoy, Michelle’s 757 and an E-3 Sentry AWACS. Lots of expense for a boondoggle but the Olympics will be worth it. And Barack owed Mayor Daley and the Chicago Machine immensely.

Up early today watching as much news as possible. Relishing in Barack’s defeat in Copenhagen. How embarrassing it must be for the standing President of these United States to fly halfway around the world only to be eliminated in the first round of voting. And how about Oprah? She put her enormous clout on the line only to be shunned. Michelle was just tagging along to make sure there was no funny business. I wonder if they’d go again knowing what they know now. Humble pie. That’s what my Dad would say. Eating humble pie. Maybe we can get down to some more pressing problems now.
Personally except for the added benefit of the personal embarrassment of the Obamas and Oprah I am pleased as punch that the Olympics will be in Rio. Instead of continuous boring shots of Lake Michigan and the Sears Building and Bob Costas droning on about the Windy City we’ll be seeing shots of the world’s hottest chicks on Ipanema Beach with the cool sounds of Sergio Mendes and Brazil 66 in the background. Second Rio is basically in the same time zone as EDT. We don’t have to watch editted replays of events that happened 7 hours earlier that we heard results on WIP driving home. Finally I may be President in 2016. I will be an honorary guest and treated like royalty. It will be worth the wait.
Today starts at Maggies with my regular heart attack breakfast. Then over to Home Depot for a demo on wall tiles for the kitchen. I always wondered how you got vertical tiles to stay in place while they dried. Now I’ll know. No Purple Parrott or Kamikazes tonight or any Saturday until Thanksgiving. It’s like I’ve lost a little piece of me.

Note to Ed: I was not taking a shot at you Ed only pointing out the naiveness of Obamas. They are school smart but not street smart. They have been handled since Harvard Law. As for the real VP Biden what an idiot. During his news conference on the unemployment figures he said “we gained 250,000 more”. Gained??……………. We lost!!!!! 250,000 more.(jobs that is) Don’t you just love how politicians use words to make things sound as if they weren’t. Gained…….what an ass.
