Dumb, Dumber, and Arrogant — The Big Three Need To Jet-Pool

You wonder what happened to common sense in big business?

Think of it? You are the CEO’s of a struggling industry. You have a potential bankruptcy facing you because of decades of poor management colliding head on with a battered economy. So you come to Washington to beg for a bailout. You arrive in corporate jets that cost $20,000 an hour to operate. Instead of opting for a round trip ticket flying commercial, the auto chiefs, crying poverty and seeking a bailout, undermine their plight by flying in lavish style

Can you get any dumber? Are you so arrogant that you don’t understand how bad it looks? Do you care?

I am atunned by the arrogance of power. These are the same people who fail to understand why people won’t buy cars that are not energy efficient.

There are lots of events that can you angry, but few that require a lack of common sense like the big travel mistake of the auto giants. Their industry is in trouble, on the edge of insolvency, and they are heading to Washington in luxury jets. What a great reward for an average job of keeping American auto-building competitive anf vibrant.

These guys should get on public transit like the rest of us.

They should admit shame for their public display of grotesque spending in a time of layoffs and economic uncertainty.

Larry, another weak effort. This topic will last for 4 hours. I hope you are working on a new, more insightful, thought provocative topic for this afternoon.
Where have you been Larry? People in power have been abusing that power and thumbing their noses at the masses since BC. This is nothing new.
The last 2 Presidents of the US have stood in front of the American people and flat out lied. “I never had sex with that woman, Miss Lewinsky”. Who knows how many other lies and coverups came out of William Jefferson Clinton? Vince Foster? Whitewater?… And then there are the “Weapons of Mass Destruction” in Iraq. The burning need to topple Saddam Hussein.
Think about the gross misrepresentations and empty promises by both candidates pamdering for votes in the recent election. “Tax cuts for everyone making under $250K” while revamping healthcare, education and every social cause known to man. “Bringing real change in Washington” then selecting Hillary Clinton and Tom Daschle to the first 2 key Cabinet positions and Rahm Emanuel to COS… McCain was just as guilty with his divisive rhetoric and sleezeball phonecall campaigns, even though he really never said anything of substance on the trail.
Larry, you are truly out of touch. Your outrage toward the obvious is absurd. Your selective outrage transparent. Your parochial view of the world is laughable.
If you need help coming up with a new topic later today, read through the blogs that get posted. Soon it will be irrelevant. You are losing your bloggers. They are looking for new homes. Soon this site will be devoid of any real substance.

Larry these guys are car salesmen. What do you expect? The Chrysler boss was wearing a watch that must have weighed two pounds, and his rings were so shiny I had to cover my eyes. I guess he showed some restraint, I didn’t see any gold medallion necklace hanging from his neck, his bracelet however was a gold band with diamonds that spelled out “Quality Number 1″. It was a Lee Iacocca original.

They may be “dumb & dumber” for taking a private jet to Washington, however, they are “dumbest” for paying UAW workers $30 per hour in wage, plus unlimited lifetime bennies. The UAW killed the golden goose.

  8. November 20th, 2008 | 10:33 am

I’m changing the topic in about 30 minutes.

These guys are saying to Congress,”don’t give us any bailout”. They want to go into bankruptcy and renegotiate all of their current contracts. Not only with the unions but with suppliers and bankers. After they accomplish that they will then go to Congress for more money.

YAP. Have a white. There’s a great winery in Buckingham. And, unlike a private jet, it’s very affordable.

  12. George
    November 20th, 2008 | 7:35 pm

The big three executives are tone deaf to the populist uprising. However, private jets are a sunk cost, are widely used at large companies and when you consider the cost to transport their whole entourage and benfit of time saved in that the trip could be used for business purposes its not a big deal in the scope of their budget. But it does look bad when reporters like Larry make a big deal about it. It doesnt change the fact that they should be saved, letting them fail will mark the begining of the 2009 depression. Also Larry forgot to mention he and most of the liberal media don’t buy American cars, so their failure will be due more to that than to trips on a private jets.

  13. November 21st, 2008 | 8:53 am

Buckingham ? Who knew, thanks for the heads up.

  14. George
    November 21st, 2008 | 10:01 am

Obama hired a law firm to look into a pre-packaged banruptcy of the big three with some limited government financing, probably a great idea and way to bust the union stranglehold for good. He will have his defining moment with the auto union as Ronnie did with air traffic controllers, albeit in a different circumstance. Obama is destined to be: the Black Ronnie Reagan!

  15. George
    November 21st, 2008 | 2:06 pm

Which is a better example of smug and arrogant:

    a) auto execs in a private jet.

    b) news reporters driving Japanese cars and complaing and calling names at the people trying to preserve the industry America invented, one that provides millions of jobs, health care, reasonably priced and safe tranportation?

  16. November 21st, 2008 | 3:20 pm

George-Do you have someone in particular in mind ?

  17. the other, other, other jim
    November 21st, 2008 | 8:51 pm

YAFP, white. Definitely unless you like a sweeter Zinfindel, not to be confused with infidel.

    c) Leo

Looks like we’ll have to deal with the Ice Princess of Pantsuits for at least 4 more years. Obie made his first huge mistake. Slick Willie casts a large shadow.

YAP, I am thinking of our hero, Larry Kane!

Hillary is a good choice, her bitchyness will be an attribute when dealing with troublesome dictators, I don’t think she’s taking any crap and will be tough with them, Bill could also be helpful, he is an excellent salesman and can be very convincing if he has the right agenda. Chelsea should run for office in NY and position herself for VP in 15 years, could be way ahead of a bubble head like Palin. Jack Russell, you must be so delighted to have Hillary intruducing hte brightly colored pants suit around the globe, she will be more effective than Rice or Albright, she has gravitas whether we like it or not, and now that her presidential chances are over she will be driven to define herself as a great secretary of state. Obviously I’m drinking the Obama kool aid, but it feels good to be optimistic again, he will cure cancer in his first term!

  19. George
    November 21st, 2008 | 9:03 pm

OOOJ, you are correct, I was negligent in adding a third choice. Where is Leo the Lion these days? He must be hung over from the Obama party. South PArk had a great episode about Obama supporters, Leo you need to check that one, it was loosly based on how you celebrated on election night.

    Dear Larry,
I’m a bit confused. An ex porn star I think her name is Tasty Jugs is now working in Vineland as a teacher’s assistant and cafeteria monitor. On the news some parents seemed outraged while others simply shrugged their shoulders and said as long as she isn’t in the business any longer it’s OK with them. Larry my question to you is should I just get a gun and blow my brains out or should I just jump off the roof of the Comcast building?

  23. Ed
    November 22nd, 2008 | 11:13 am

Larry I would also like to report that due to you exposing the arrogance and stupidity of these auto CEOs GM has decided to sell three of their five corporate jets. That leaves them with only two multimillion dollar luxury aircraft, if you don’t count their fleet of helicopters.

OOOJ seems to have short circuited. God bless him, he often seemd balanced and reasonable. just goes to show it can happen to the best of them.

Larry, are the Comcast people happy with the quality of your work on this blog? If you worked for me at Comcast we’d be have a candid discussion of what this is about. You either go all in and do a good job and put some substance in your wting or pull the plug. I would not allow this nonesense if you were under contract with me, it tarnishes what Comcast is trying to do with their new format.

How’s your portfolio hoolding up? Citi just got another bailout, which will now underscore how bad their peers are doing and will cause more capital injections. The Merrill/ Bank America deal is in jepordody, its a vicious cycle that could end very badly. Obama has his hands full, hopefully he will have some encouraging rhetoric for the markets today. We despartely need a cheerleader like Reagan to break the psychological depression of investors. There are real problems, but a better attitude and leadership post Bush can pull us out.

All, I’m mad as hell and I can’t take this anymore. You accept Larry and this blog for the thoughtless, mindless, abandoned abyss that it is. Typical Americans. If it doesn’t affect your daily routine, pocketbook or vacation, you don’t really care. We’ve grown to accept and even except wandon neglect and gross incompetence. We need to hold Larry’s feet to the fire. He needs to feel our pain. Are you doing okay? your rants lately seem to be uncharateristic of your usual posts, this is just a silly blog, nothing to take too seriously. Hopefully your just joking, using a bit of hyperbole to get Larry’s attention.

I would like to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and well wishes heading into the Thanksgiving. I am mad but not crazy. Perhaps a bit of hyperbole as George suggests. The big news is that Larry has invited me over for Thanksgiving dinner. What kind of wine (or whine) should I bring? Should I bring flowers? Lilies? Desert? Please help me plan for this big event. I fear I’m a social misfit.

  49. November 25th, 2008 | 11:13 am

Wine ? Have you considered beer ? A nice Belgian style, maybe a corked 25 oz.bottle weighing in at about 9.2 ABV should do the trick.Of course the more important question is why you & not anyone else ?
