Palin Blues – Team Obama – Faces To Watch
The political tip sheet.
First, Sarah Palin. Love her or leave her, the attacks against Palin by insiders in the McCain campaign are cheaper than cheap. True. She was not a good candidate, but the blame game as being played out right now is shameful.
Watch for Palin, we understand, to soon grant a network interview to tell her side of the story.
Tom Kean? Remember him. Standup former NJ Governor and co-chair of the extensive 9/11 commission report which was dissed by Bush White House. We understand the Republican icon is being considered for the Obama adminstration, either at Homeland Security or the National Security Council. He would be a good choice and help fulfill the Obama promise of recruiting Republicans in his administration.
Other local faces to watch: Josh Shapiro, Pa. State Representative. Shapiro is one of the first public officials to endorse Obama. Congressman Patrick Murphy , another early bird for Obama, will stay in his job. Murphy has eyes on the U.S. Senate, Arlen Specter’s seat. That won’t happen. Perhaps the most interesting person to watch will be Pa. Senator Bob Casey, who endorsed Obama at a critical point of the Spring primaries. Casey will be the closest U.S, Senator to the Obama White House. That fact will have an immeasurable impact on Pennsylvania.
Moving to New Jersey: US Attorney Chris Christie will decide soon whether to challenge Governor Jon Corzine next year. Corzine is hoping for a cabinet bid from Obama. Corzine hates elective politics.
Ed Rendell? With the Lt. Governor battling cancer, and two years left in his term, the Governor has limited options. But the Obama team would be wise to cozy up with Rendell who has sway over many of his fellow Democatic Governors in the country.
Final note, for now.
All is peaceful now. America has elected a new President. But should we forget the slanders and innuendos and hate mongering of the campaign? Or should we just sit back and wait for them to happen next time?

Yes, I am aware that I stated that I would observe a cease fire mode, but that was only an agreement with republicans.

Larry, where was this outrage when your comrades in the press went after Sarah Palin with a vengence? Alledged affair. Trig was actually daughter’s baby. Etc. Hundreds of members of the press/Dem operatives were sent to Alaska to dig something up on Palin. Now that was downright shameful! Couldn’t upset the Obama lapdance… That’s not to say she was a great VP choice or that the McCain sniping is any less shameful. WHERE WAS YOUR OUTRAGE IN SEPTEMBER?

Why would he want to take on anymore local baggage? There’s more political roadkill in PA now then on I-80 this time of the year… Fast Eddie was never a consideration. Now that Obama is in power this blog no longer belongs to Larry, its the property of the people! Its time to spread the wealth around and share it with other voices (especially black ones) to make it better and more representative of our city, which is nearly half black. Having Micheal Nutter post something here once a month, or former mayor Street or Goode would be nice to have some real politcal voices of color. How about Chakka Fatah? George, how can a president’s children attend any public school? The security issues would be untenable. The question is whether they will attend private school or be homeschooled and whether their father will bilk the taxpayers of his state a la Tricky Ricky Santorum.

The symbolism of Obama’s children attending public schools would far out weigh the cost of such an undertaking. He already copped out on adopting a dog from a shelter. No mutts allowed in the White House, unless of course your name is Barack Obama……To paraphrase a biblical saying, The Elite Shall Inherit The Earth.
Kids didn’t go to public school in Chicago suburb. Not gonna happen now. Far too symbolic a gesture and not realistic. Probably a prep school in Georgetown.

Obama has promised quite a bit to pubic school teachers and public school funding. I recognize there are security issues, but the girls will require secret service security at a private school as well. In fact, the DC public schools are already well policed and have metal detors etc., The girls would be wonderful role models and would help raise the bar in DC public schools!
Leo, why no public school for the Obama girls? I think it would be great for the school and for the Obama’s to be true to their beleif in the virtue of public schools, and would demonstrate that expenditures per puupil is the true guide to quality public education, as DC has one of the highest overheads per pupil in the nation.
Certainly, Michelle Obama went to public school. However, the chance that terrorists, domestic or foreign, might target the daughters of the President at a public school is far too great. It’s simply an unrealistic option.
And, yes, the President of the U.S. is always something of an elite. Hurrr.
More interestingly, I see that Comcast’s CN8 and the Voice of Reason are going into the toilet. Larry, without that platform, how will you advance the FREE AIR agenda? Is Comcast creating a FREE AIR network (a pun because it comes over cable)?
Leo, terrorist would know the location of a private school just as easily as they would a public school, that argument makes no sense for not sending them to public school.
I think the Obamas should chose public scool, anything short of that is hypocritical. Obama said he was going to do things differently, and support public schools is a top priority for him, I think he will do it- YES WE CAN!
George, there is a world of difference. If you cannot see how security can be implemented differently at a private school than it could be at a public school, I’m not going to be able to help you understand. I’m sure any number of Tom Clancy-reading right wingers will tell you that it would be unacceptable for young daughters of an American president–especially an African-American/biracial president–to attend public school.
There is no hypocrisy. It’s not as if the Obamas are asking the taxpayers to send their daughters to private school, unlike Ricky Santorum.

George, you’re just sore that the haters lost and have nothing else to attack Obama about other than where his daughters will go to school. Delusional “angry right-wing” media stars like Limbaugh are now claiming that Obama is going to seize people’s 401(k) accounts and lump them into social security, having no evidence whatsoever to support those inflammatory claims. My hope is that people will start to see what unpatriotic counterfactual smear merchants those angry right-wing poltroons are. They put the low wing of the Republican party ahead of country.

I voted for the change Leo, I hope to God he delivers half of what people expect. As dark as the economy is these days it feels good to have someone who is going to be able to communicate with the people and find solutions. His meeting with Bush went well, and it seems Bush is going out of his way to deliver a smooth transition, the least he could do after making such a mess. Also good to see Obama is going to try to help auto industry, there are so many additional support jobs to it that letting Big Three fail will likely make us go from deep recession into depression. Labor needs to do its part in the restructering, those old contract have got to go.
Speaking of labor,what do you guys think about Wall Street brokers and banks taking billions from the governmnet and then paying bonuses with it? When Main Street figures out what’s going on they are going to go nuts!
George where do you stop the bail outs? Do you stop with banks, mortgage lenders and auto makers? Who is next in line? Department stores? Auto dealerships? Lawn service companies?
Other than gas/oil, mil/aerospace, Apple and wireless companies, who doesn’t need a bail out? We can’t bail out everyone.
The auto industry spends $2,300 per car on employee health insurance. This auto bailout better include some concessions from the unions or the next time Detroit burns (figuratively) I say let it burn.
Agreed Edsel, unions need major concession to bsically work at scales and benefits that auto workers earn in right to work states where the Japanese and German operate, you don’t see those auto makers setiing up shop in Detroit even though the factories are already there and could be purchased for pennies on the dollar.
The bailouts have to stop somewhere, but the carmakers deserve the support because of the number of middle class jobs they produce. Over time they will shrink and adjust to global over-capacity, but it needs to happen slowly so workers can adapt. Japan supports their auto companies as do Germans and its a good idea for right now, we are on the economic brink. Chrysler got a lifeline in early 1980s and it was a good idea.
George that sounds like another form of Socialism: Government support of industry. Problem in Detroit is that big 3 are trying to compete in uneven market.
Japanese car companies have
1) Government subsidies
2) far different unions
3) better volumes to cut unit costs
4) fewer models to reduce build mix
5) better quality, engineering and workmanship
Major concessions from the unions and incentives to “buy American”, not bailouts are the answer. Bailouts lead to more bad behavior.
Obama’s tax policies may not raise my rates or my payments, but I still pay more income tax than GM and Ford do even though I don’t pay all my taxes. They don’t have income. They only have losses.
It’s socialism! Obama is a Marxist.
I’m asking for concessions from the unions as a condition of getting govermnet money. Bailouts are bad if behavior is not changed, so bailout with conditions for renegotiation of labor contracts and better fuel economy. But without a government backstop the Big Three will file chapter 11, and then people stop buying the cars because of fear that warranties will not be honored and the problem is exaccerbated.
Letting Lehman fail was a huge mistake, letting the auto companies fail will cause a depression.

Here is a story. Major US auto company develops an electric car. Leased about a 1000 cars. Major oil company buys patent on the cars battery system. Major US auto company recalls all the leased electric cars and turns them into scrap.
GM spent over 1 billion dollars developing this car which they turned into a heap of junk. Do you really want to bail these people out?
Best case scenario is a socialist form of manufacturing. We need long term profits not short term pocket change. The men in charge of the auto industry were always looking at the price of their stock. They had to please the share holders which led to a short sighted view of the industry. A grab what you can as soon as you can mentality pervaded the industry, and investment in the future was neglected. Their MANTRA “keep the share holders happy” cost them dearly. Screw them……
The credit default market indicates about a 70% chance of GM bankruptcy, but it wont be chapter 11 reorganization, in this market it will be chpater 7 liquidation, roughly 250,000 jobs will be lost. They made lots of mistakes, but innocent hard working families are going to suffer for the mis-managment. Given the headlines who would buy a new american car today verus a simlarly priced and possibly better quality foreign car? Now with Korea being where Japan was 20 years ago, and China where Japan was 40 years ago, things dont look good for U.S.autos long term. Cars will be like telvisions, 100% were once engineered and built here now its 0%.

In Korea they haven’t screwed up yet but I’ll bet if you do it won’t be a pretty sight. In America if you screw up you get a multi million dollar parachute along with a great retirement fund.

He’s saying its just a little side thing , but they say; if we’re going to reinvent ourselves and try to improve our image and promote Larry Kane, this site cheapens our brand and is counter productive. Like Larry I had to cast aside any aspersions of leading a normal life. I finally told my fans that I would no longer sign any more memorabilia. Being the last of the Beatles (Paul became dead to me after he married that one legged gold digger) I can appreciate how much Larry meant to me back in oh when was it 1964. We’ve talked little since then, maybe not at all, but it’s nice to see him keep the Beatles torch lit for all the world to see. (or at least the several that post here). Larry may the road always rise up to meet you and the wind be at your back, unless Sonny Lee is behind you.
