Blame Game – A Disgrace To The Leadership of America
No sooner had the bailout bill collapsed in the House than the partisans let loose. Democrats blaming Republicans, the Republicans blaming the Democrats. The President, appearing helpless, calls his advisers back together. What’s next? Will half of Congress get voted out of office? John McCain blames the Democrats, but many of his own flock voted “no.” Barack Obama urged everyone to “stay calm.” The way the Treasury Secretary had been talking, doomsday was just around the corner. This from a man who helped design the system that has apparently cracked. Nancy Pelosi and her Republican leadership counterparts were rejected by their own members.
What’s missing today is not just healthy credit markets. What is missing is a feeling on the part of most of us that no one with any talent or ability is running the show. Business leaders complain about “the inmates running the asylum” when they reject powerul input from the rank and file. This is a case of the leaders imprisoned in asylum of self-doubt, ineptitude and blame assessment.
Will we nosedive? Maybe. But the American people, as a group, are a lot tougher than the people we elect, for the most part.
What we need now is a real leader, or leaders, who will use the power of their personality and brilliance to lead us out of the mess, find a new plan, and yes, proecute the fraud-masters who lied to us.
We need change. We need it fast. Not just words.
Maybe. Maybe, in his final days in office, President Bush will muster up the courage to call an emergency session of Congress and make the members work till they drop or until they find a workable plan.
Under the law, Congress has to be in recess for the President to call it back. My advice: send them home, then call them back into special session!

I guess you were watching CNBC all afternoon Larry. The inmates are running the asylum and are pushing us to the brink of a depression, that could take many years to recover from. The equity market sell-off was compounded by the eve of the Jewish Holiday, known on NY trading floors as “Rusha Homa” since many leave early to celebrate. The market was down 777 points which is a lucky number, so maybe things will turn up tomorrow if the Fed cuts rates in coordiation with foreign governments.
Have a Happy New Year Larry!
Larry, would these “fraud-masters” be the same ones responsible for pricing disparities at neighboring gas stations? If so, I say string them up!
I like the irresponsible media reporting about this. I was on the road today and got home early. I usually don’t get to see the evening news. But on 6 ABC, they just said that the market was in “free fall” today. Really? A 6% decline is “free fall”? Alarmist rhetoric doesn’t help, whether it comes from politicians or the press.
I think that there aren’t any grownups working the problem in D.C. or on Wall Street. Did you catch Darryl Issa’s comment? The bailout was a coffin on top of Reagan’s coffin? What does that even mean?
The bailout failed by around 12 votes. There’s plenty of blame to go around. I blame the banks that lent too much money, the people who borrowed it and spent it recklessly, and the bozos on Wall Street who packaged and bought and sold mortgage-backed derivatives. They’re all responsible.
Leo, you’re right about all of the blame going around, but clearly a small number of Democrats played chicken today with the bill. The Dems could have passed it on their own, and they are now stunned that because a few of them screwed around and voted no, so as to look good back in their home districts. They are on the news in disbelif saying I was for the bill but voted no. No wonder Congressional approval is even lower than the president’s. Another reason to want to flush the toilet this November and start over. McCain is going to have some explaining to do, he should be punished for stupidiity for getting himself in the middle of this. Obama-rama time!
Sonny Lee, I’m afraid I have left the wagon also. This financial crisis has brought all my chickens home to roost. Maybe the Rev. Wright was right. I, for the life of me cannot figure out what is going on. I feel like Sarah Palin on SNL.
That was her I saw with Katie Couric wasn’t it? She looks a lot like Tina Fey
Anyway why did so many Democrats vote against the bailout? Were they concerned that their constituents wouldn’t vote them back in this year? I mean Nancy Pelosi didn’t need to come down so hard on the Republicans. Her fellow Democrats could have passed the bill but they voted otherwise. Man, I don’t know if we are as “tough” as Larry has stated. First Larry says we are all “tough” now in this column he says most of us are “tough”, I suppose in the next column
he will note that some of us Americans are “tough”. What will he say after that?
I need a drink………
I started this week full of vinegar, with youthful enthusiasm that our elected officials would come to a consensus and resolve our financial crisis. It’s only Monday night and I already feel that the state of the state is in ruin. How I will feel on Friday God only knows…..
That’s Ed’s kinky Kab Ko.
Hey Ed, you’re an Irish smartmouth that cries to be punched in the face at the local bar after you have mouthed off a bit too much. That’s happened to you more than once right?
George you are one angry Irishman. Good luck with that……
hey George, what’s up with your attack on Ed. You are the only one here who wants to get a pie in your face. Send me a picture of your pie and I’ll send you a picture of mine. We’ll see what happens from there.
Larry, thank you for changing blog topic!
Plenty of blame to go around. Now that is an understatement. McCain tries to shame Obama into cancelling debate. Obama puts debate ahead of country so as not to lose momentum. Pelosi tries to turn bailout into Bush bash. Republicans worried about re-election voting against bailout. Democrats playing chicken with vote trying to make Republicans look bad. And that just in the last 6 days!
Sonny Lee and Kim Shee are the only two that are not somehow responsible.
And Larry, President Bush is the ONLY one showing any courage here. He is way out in front of this bailout.
sonny ree you still not come home. you disgrace. i send you back and run off to pennypack park with reo. i now rive in suburbs. you park your rickshaw where sun don’t shine.
Hi Larry, the behavior of Barney Frank is just so embarrassing to the gay community,he is acting like a jerk over this economic crisis,I am a Obama supporter and my partner Chad (a Truman Capote look alike)is a John McCain Man but we work together to take of our issues we never throw pies at each other,Barney Frank should cut the drama and get to work,Leo we’ll see you at the 12th street gym.
Leadership in action!
Body count. In the last six months 292 killed (murdered) in Chicago , 221 killed in Iraq.
Sens. Barack Obama & Dick Durbin, Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., Gov. Rod
Blogojevich, House leader Mike Madigan, Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan (daughter of Mike), Mayor Richard M. Daley (son of former Mayor Richard J. Daley)…..the leadership in Illinois …..all Democrats.
Chicago is a combat zone. Of course they’re all blaming each other.
Can’t blame Republicans, they’re aren’t any!
State pension fund $44 Billion in debt, worst in country. Cook County ( Chicago ) sales tax 10.25% highest in country. (Look’em up if you want). Chicago school system one of the worst in country. This is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois.
And He’s gonna ‘fix’ Washington politics?
But what do you care? You have your own issues in Philly.
Back in my day, we would have tarred and feathered a peacock like Barney Frank for all to see.
All righty then. Well I hope that at a minimum, Barney Frank and his Merry Men on the oversight committee are replaced as a result of this national crisis.
Oh Abe. You know the problems in Chicago are all your fault for emancipating the slaves,so do not blame them but blame yourself. Do not forget the crooked republican governor of Illinois who is now in jail who had more direct involvement in causing the problems than federal representatives in your fancy pants capitol did.
Small business owners like my pop will be hurt most by this. He needs credit to fix the rickshaw because my mother spends money like a drunken sailor when she goes to the nail parlor.
I like David Brooks. He says that this is on the Republicans.
“House Republicans led the way and will get most of the blame. It has been interesting to watch them on their single-minded mission to destroy the Republican Party. Not long ago, they led an anti-immigration crusade that drove away Hispanic support. Then, too, they listened to the loudest and angriest voices in their party, oblivious to the complicated anxieties that lurk in most American minds.
“Now they have once again confused talk radio with reality. If this economy slides, they will go down in history as the Smoot-Hawleys of the 21st century. With this vote, they’ve taken responsibility for this economy, and they will be held accountable. The short-term blows will fall on John McCain, the long-term stress on the existence of the G.O.P. as we know it.”
I liked McCain because of his immigration bill. But he doesn’t support it anymore. I have no idea what his position is on fixing the credit problems because all he does is lash out in anger at everyone. He’s like my mom when she has too many Singapore Slings. Perhaps he should first dig two graves before he goes out trying to avenge himself.
Another ay another 1.2 trillion dollars
George, you never sent that picture. With my day off I found some time to make a few contacts on craigslist. So keep your picture of your pie to yourself. I’ve got places to go and some guys to do.
I see the sock puppets are busy. And Civil War sock puppets have made the scene to boot.
In an effort to engender bipartisan cooperation, McCain is claiming that Pelosi and Obama are responsible for scuttling the deal. I’d laugh if I weren’t crying over the thousands of dollars of value that evaporated from my 401(k) yesterday. The problem is that McCain has made being a maverick a virtue irrespective of what it is that one opposes his party about. So a bunch of GOP maverick wannabes stood up to their leadership yesterday and said no, having no viable alternative in hand. They put themselves ahead of country. They put themselves first. And where was John McCain? Was he rallying the troops with inspiring stories about how he stuck to his principles in Vietnam even in the face of torture and the opportunity to go home? No, he’s dining with Joe Lieberman and Haddsah at exclusive restaurants. He attended a debate he said he wouldn’t attend until there was a deal. Now, no deal. Maybe he should set Sarah Palin on those guys in Congress so she can use the “get ‘r done” phrase she’s been practicing.
Nancy Pelosi, now there is a woman who puts the country first. Her speech yesterday was as moving to me as a morning trip to to the toilet. It was warm and and full of old digested rhetoric. I know she can’t help herself.
It’s ingrained, an instinct, I know because I have a nose for that sort of thing. Warm excrement is my business.
Barney, your line in response to Boehner was great. If what he said was true, some GOP reps decided to hurt the country because they didn’t like a speech. Now that’s principle! They showed her!
Too bad it turns out that GOP reps are coming out and saying Boehner is full of BS and that Pelosi’s speech didn’t change anything.
Leo did you say BS? Mmmmmmmmmmmmm, I like BS, especially when it comes from you. You are so full of it.
Thanks, Barney. You’re a great sock puppet, but you aren’t doing a good job of providing your puppeteer with an excuse for his lack of anything substantive to say. But I’m guessing he really likes having his hand up your backside since he keeps putting it there.
Leo, what’s a sock puppet? As for substantive things to say I did mention that you are full of BS didn’t I? That’s pretty substantive stuff if you ask me.
See, he just put his hand up your backside again. There must be something about you that he really is drawn to.
But no matter. None of that changes the wreck that the GOP is making of McCain’s campaign.
I just learned that Newt Gingrich went behind my back and whipped up opposition votes to the bailout. I thought we were done with Newt and the Contract On America. After all, that Gingrich gambit was so bad, and he was such an unpopular crybaby, that we couldn’t even get Clinton out of office when he lied about blowjobs in the Oval Office. Hey, Barney, at least you don’t have to deal with a bunch of thumb suckers in your caucus. Just look at these dopes I’ve got to deal with. It’s like herding cats. Really dumb cats.
By the way, it seems Newt has his eyes set on 2012. This was his first shot in his new Republican revolution, which he is wresting away from Old Man McCain.
We Dems didn’t want to “own” this bill and be stuck with it’s consequences. The Reps were supposed to come up with a few votes to make the bill look bipartisan. That’s the way things get done in Washington. But Nancy had to step up to the podium and make sure America knew it was all the Reps fault. The whole financial mess was their doing, 8 years of inept leadership by Reps got us where we are. When I heard her I knew right then I would be kissing more ass than my………… oh you know I love to kiss ass.
That’s right, Barney. I’ve got these thumbsuckers in my caucus who can’t put the good of country ahead of their party or their personal pride. Most of them snigger when they see McCain posters that say “Country First.” (After all, he chose Sarah Palin as a running mate. How could you think less of your country than that?) They know which side their bread is buttered on.
John, even I titter a bit when when John walks by. He actually thinks the Dems will actually work with him during an election year. When I walk past Obama’s posters I, like you offer up a little snigger when I see his slogan “Yes we Can”. Yes We Can What? Even if he gets elected there will be nothing left in the coffers. The thing that makes me giggle the most though, is a feather up my butt.
Larry,
since our esteemed congress does not have a clue what to do about this mess, maybe we should demand the big guns come in and help the country, for instance,Warren Buffett.Bill Gates,Donald Trump, Steve Forbes, Lee Ioccoa, and all the guys like them that know money and business.Maybe they can even bail us out, well its a thought, more than congress is cable of doing at this time.
I vaguley remember somewhere back in the day congress was referred to as a DO NOTHING CONGRESS,I guess we never learn from history which is why we are destined to repeat it.
Whoowaaaa,I’ve seen it all Leo fighting with a sock puppet pass the popcorn.
Al ouuueeeeeaaaa or however you say it. Wow is that really you? I’ve loved you eve since I saw you in Midnight Cowboy. That Ratso fella that you played was so realistic. Back then I spent a lot of time hanging around Times Sq. That line about the brother and sister act got me going. “Hansel’s a fag and Gretel’s got the hots for herself, so who cares? Load up on the salami.” Load up on the salami, that was unforgettable. I’ve been loading up on salami ever since. Hey wait a minute that was Dustin Hoffman who played Ratso…%#@%$ me
Whoowaaaa, Barney boy let me tell you hanging around you would be a Dog Day Afternoon, Whoowaaaa.
No longer “The Larry Kane Report”
Rename to “Leo and the Sock Puppets”
Is it Leo or Lee Dexter?
Barney, any relation to John Kerry? I know your orientations are different but you sound similar.
Whoowaaaa,Sonny Lee my boy forget Kim Lee there’s a half billion woman out there,I need a rickshaw ride to central park, hop to it,Whoowaaaa.
Larry, you mentioned george bush and courage in the same sentence are you being funny?
I know OOOJ will object but before you do your blind faith for bush/chaney only equals Leo’s morningwood for obama/biden.
jr, you know I only have wood for you. It makes Kim Chee jealous.
Did you see the Palin interview with Couric? Did you see the part where she brought her dad in to stop Katie from roughing her up with challenging questions? Or where she and her pa explained that she was flusetered and outwitted by a voter who asked what she would do about Pakistan, because who’s thinking about Pakistan anyway?
To the sock puppeteer, that was a nice try. But that’s not me. jr is a huge turnoff.
Finally Leo and I agree on something (and I don’t mean about Kim Shee). Our 401Ks are getting run down by the banking community and we want a bailout. We may argue about the terms but we want a deal now before irreparable damage is done to the system.
And JR, I know it would pain you to give President Bush any credit but he’s shown more political courage than either Clinton, Obama or 99% of Congress on the bailout. They are staying below the weeds on this issue. Hillary is afraid a stand will come back to bite her in 4 years.
For those of you voters who had a predilection to cast your ballot for Hillary, I give you “The Bailout Fiasco”
Hillary, who wanted that 3am call to defend and protect our country has been asleep in the burbs of West Chester NY while we the people have been stuck, waiting for our representatives in Washington to save our way of life. Those 18 million people who voted for her should be rethinking their vote. I also think those people should be rethinking their new way of life. Hillary was a waste of time and money she cares little for our well being. All she wanted was to be president. Period.
Obama is no different
I’d rather have Sarah Palin defend me rather than a corrupt, self absorbed, egotistical, money grubbing, connected, insider, racial oriented, poll driven member of either party.
Tell us what you really think Ed. Don’t hold back.
I could not agree more.
LB/Puppeteer, it’s a lot easier to have staffers come up with tough questions over the course of several days than to answer those questions on film when you know that 500M people are watching your every word and expression.
How about this question? Why has the press/media given Obama and Angry Joe a free pass for the last 9 months? Why aren’t they getting asked any tough questions? Gee, think they may be biased?
Who cares if she can see the Russian border from her Alaskan shores, or reads everything put in front of her or the fact she would send troops into Pakistan to get Bin laden. I believe if the American citizens were in trouble she wouldn’t stay at home and walk her dog.
Neither do I think she would handle court times at the White house tennis facility (ala Carter). Bush was dedicated but poisoned by the likes of Cheney and Rove. It was their advice along with Crystal and the other neocons that did him in. Bush lost focus on America and became a reluctant agent of the conservative wing of the Republican party. Sarah is the only fresh thing in Washington. Everyone else residing there is full of……in the words of Leo BS…a substantive amount
reo quick check to see if you have morningwood. is wood for jr or me? you start to worry me. i see you in pennypack pary at ereven.
reo sonny ree and buddy ree run off. i have no where to rive. i need to move in with you. you have wife? you ask her to reave.
I am a fraud and damaged goods. I have been ineffective despite a majority in the House. I have fallen out of favor in my own party. I am a lame duck Speaker. I should have seen it coming.
It sort of bothers me that my party is savagely attacking Sarah Palin. She is a fellow women but politics is politics. The only thing that matters is that Obama wins at this point. We can walk all over him. He doesn’t even see it coming.
I am trying to save my political bacon by trying to push this bailout bill through. I throw up in my mouth thinking about supporting a bill that Bush is promoting. I am desperate. I need to become relevant again. I can steal his thunder if I get this pushed through. I can be important again. I am Nancy Pelosi afterall. Feared by moderates, hated by conservatives and revered by liberals and homosexuals.
Boy, is Nancy Pelosi right. The Democrats have ordered 500 bowling shirts that sarcastically have “Team Obama” printed on the back. They view him as a bowling pin that they will bowl over 10 times a day in Washington. He’ll get so tired of getting knocked down that eventually he won’t get up. Pelosi and Reed will finally be running Washington!
You can get a free “Team Obama” shirt by sending a $100 contribution to Obama’s campaign. Remember he won’t stand up for long in Washington. He’ll be going down early and often.
Who am I?
I am under 45 years old,
I love the outdoors,
I hunt,
I am a Republican reformer,
I have taken on the Republican Party establishment,
I have many children,
I have a spot on the national ticket as vice president with less than two years in the governor’s office.
Who am I?
TEDDY ROOSEVELT
OOOJ-I think you know the answer to that.If you challenge, or even question Obama you’re labeled a racist.White journalists would rather be called a pedophile than be called a racist,so it works.Obama,to his credit, sees that this has worked for Jackson & Sharpton & he’s gone all in.I was called a racist on another site last week for having the temerity to “goof” on Obama.
YFAP, welcome back from cheating on this site. As you can see, not much has transpired here. A bit of infighting. A bit of puppeting. Some potential affairs. A good “racist” like you will fit in here.
A bit of puppeting ? On this site ? You are a master of understatement. But that Kim Chee is a breath of fresh air, isn’t she ?
Just to update you on the Somali pirates.
They are still aboard a Ukrainian ship loaded with a cargo of tanks. They are currently surrounded by US ships at this time. So far only three people are dead. Apparently three of the pirates had an argument amongst themselves and shot each other. Sugule Ali the chief pirate told western sources ella, ella, ella, you only die once.” Asked why he wanted a 20 million dollar ransom Ali stated “Have you seen the value of the dollar lately.?” “Besides I have many mouths to feed and those prices at the supermarket are killing me, plus I took a big hit in my IRA this week.” If anything new develops I’ll get back to you.
Teddy, you forgot the part about being a state legislator for years, a successful leader of men in battle, a high ranking member of the federal cabinet, and an intelligent person with progressive views, including support for universal health care and federalized health insurance as well as support for unions. And not being a total idiot.
It’s amusing to see McCain supporters becoming increasingly shrill, like ol’ Grumpy himself, as he flails about.
Leo-Where are you seeing that ?
reo you ignore me too much. i reave your scrawny butt for yap. he appreciate domesticated asian woman. you can have sarah palin. you obsessed with her scrawny butt too much for me. you need mama with donkey zone.
Negative on the big donkey zone. But we’ll always have the Continental.
Has anyone noticed that Larry is advertising an audio book at the top of his blog? Is that his subtle way of telling us what he thinks of our postings? Of course Leo, he wouldn’t be talking about you.
I am sick of reading about Barrack Obama’s not this and he’s not that,he’s not better then John McCain he’s Way better,John McCain is older then dirt he’s so old his social security card has 2 digits.
America didn’t want a black baseball player but Jackie Robinson was better than everyone else, brother Barrack has been a gentleman from day one and to JR and the haters that keep attacking brother Barrack and his beautiful wife sister Michelle, read my lips watch your back Cracker.
The latest polls have Obama up by more than 10 points in Pennsylvania and ahead by similar margins in other battleground states. All McCain is doing is throwing stones and distorting the truth, which isn’t going to get him anywhere fast. Oh, baby!
reo are you sleeping with obama?
Robinson was good, not great. Not close to being the best of his era.And please,Michelle is ghastly but probably the best thing big ears can get.
Michelle is an amazing woman. She’s attractive and she comes from a strong family. She’s the American dream, the woman who had to work hard to achieve, and whose achievements were earned, not handed to her because she won popularity contests. She’s got a great sense of humor and she’s smart. So what if she can’t see Russia from her house?
Leo is what happens when you don’t go to the eye doctor on a regular basis.
michelle can see russia from her house but she sees red. she communist pinko panther. she hate america. she mad at you reo because you sreep with obama.
McSame shows similar stage-exiting skills to those demonstrated by Bush. Also, notice how he flip-flops, unable to choose a course and stick to it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60dcD1s6mhE
That one’s for you, Kim Chee. I guess you inspired me with your adorable racist mockery of Asian-American speech.
Obama – a little bit Reverend Wright, a little bit William Ayers
Donny, don’t be sore that “Magic Underpants” Romney didn’t win the nomination. I’ll bet McCain is wishing he had him on the ticket right now, though. Instead, McCain is bumbling around showing everyone he has no workable exit strategy.
Right wingers are going nuts. Now they’re claiming that Gwen Ifill somehow tricked McCain into agreeing to let her moderate a debate, despite the fact that the book she was writing about race, politics, and Obama was public knowledge for weeks prior to the August 6 date on which the candidates agreed on moderators.
Right-leaning Politico has more. Greta and Michelle Malkin should be ashamed for failing to report the facts.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20081001/pl_politico/22742
Leo, just be thankful your candidate is on the side of the great media conspiracy. It’s tough being on the other side.
You’re right, Donny. FoxNews made McCain incapable of finding his way off stage.
The AP had features about Ifill’s book weeks ahead of the agreement re: moderators, but they used a mind beam on McCain’s campaign that made them incapable of seeing what was clearly of record.
Katie Couric forced McCain to keep Palin away from the press and to prep her to spit out incoherent butt ends of statements in response to easily anticipated and relevant questions.
ZOMG!! ITZ A MEEDIUR KORNSPIRACEE!
YAP, you get called racist on this site for using terms like “chocolate” or “calling a spade a spade” or “calling the kettle black”. Leo, like most self-absorbed liberals, believe they can control what you say by charging racism at the drop of a hat- it’s outrageous! Brace yourself, its going to get more ugly in coming weeks, the left will not be denied this election. Hopefully the winner is clear cut and decisive. Look out if its as close as Bush/Gore in 2000….
All of you Neanderthals who thought that I sabotaged the bailout can go fly a kite. I am an advocate not a diplomat. I represent a district in California that consists of Homos, Transvestites, Sexual deviants, pot smokers, and a scattering of illegal aliens. If I don’t bash Republicans everyday these people will preform a legislative abortion and I will no longer rule in the bowels of the house of Representatives…….
Nancy, thanks for making me smile today!
Leo, you make fun of my Morman counterpart Mitt Romney. Do you have problems with Mormans or just Republicans?
You think it is okay to viciously attack Sarah Palin over her background and experience yet you’d be the first to complain if anyone asked Obama about Rev Wright or William Ayers. Don’t worry the media is in the bag with you. It is ridiculous and outrageous.
I am proud to be a Democrat. I’ve got my Team Obama bowling shirt on. We’ll be rolling strikes and making spares in 2009. He’s just what we need in Congress!
My sources in the Senate say the bailout is going down again tonight.
Democrats the biggest divisive party to ever inhabit the earth have gone a step too far for me. Obama has hired people to recruit black, Hispanic and economically disadvantaged people to vote for him . the recruiters are even promising rides and who knows what else to get these “bodies” to the polls. As long as they can be driven to their voting booth Obama is promising them a piece of the presidential pie. What happen to people like me who grew up on believing that America was all about individual rights and freedoms. F Obama and all his paid mercenaries……
Keep it up, guys. I’m enjoying the show. Will you become even more inane as McCain continues to go down the drain? (Jesse Jackson gave me that rhyme by the way. Props to Jesse!) How will you top yourselves?
I’ve always wanted to see a train wreck in slow motion. I just never figured it would be part of a presidential campaign.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cn9WduykYpA
It’s amazing how long it takes her to say nothing at all.
I realize our political system isn’t perfect, but the major thread that has always run through it was the thread of individualism. I don’t want to give that up. I may be a dinosaur but politicians working the black voter and the Hispanic voter and the Jewish voter and the gay voter and the elder voter and the xer voter and the baby boomer voter makes us look like the Europeans. I personally grew up thinking that we were all the same. Fortunately for me it was all rich Jews and Italians that I grew up with.
I did have one relationship with an Armenian family but that didn’t work out too good. The old man was a dictator.
I guess I was wrong about the Senate vote last night. I guess I’m wrong on a lot of things but I am still wearing the bowling shirt. We had the Presidential Seal added. Very official looking. Counting the days.
Now the pressure is on me to deliver sufficient votes. Hearding Democrats is like hearding sheep but this is an opportunity to appear bipartisan and embarrass the Republicans at the same time. Counting the hours.
Sorry to say we will all be called racist when obama losses.
People are called racist and crackers at the drop of a dime for having a different view of America and want to see it change for the better.
Chris R. you and leo said chelle chelle is beautiful and the american dream, I think you mean the American Nightmare where is chelle chelle she is hard to find these days, the kids will need her to play pin the tail on the donkey.
2000 redux would be perfect.Obama gets the popular vote & McCain wins the Electoral College.Riots in the streets as Fatimah Ali’s prediction kicks in.I better get that weapon.
On a side note,Jenny Lewis wowed the crowd at the Keswick last night.Don’t miss her when she comes back.
I would have to say that this election has taken a real turn for the worse since the GOP Convention bounce. Neither candidate has spoken about the economy, jobs, housing market, etc. Both are avoiding making promises or revealing plans. Partly because neither has a plan or a clue. Partly because they want to avoid the scrutiny. Instead they resort to attack ads and rhetoric. Sad.
The difference here is that McCain appears more petty, out of touch and clueless. Obama appears more Presidential and has received zero scrutiny from the Fourth Estate.
Much as George Bush expected the Iraqs to welcome the American soldiers as liberators or as Hillary expected to be whisked into a coronation by the voters, the press has decided Obama is the best choice to lead the country. They are spending every waking hour taking shots at McCain and Palin.
Larry, as a member of the press, you should be absolutely embarrassed to be associated with this lot.
Leo, I see where you took another shot at Mitt Romney yesterday. “Magic Underpants” has a far better understanding than either candidate and yes, even you. We need his expertise at this time of crisis. Yes, McCain would have been better off with him as a running mate but so would Obama. Angry Joe can’t add beyond toes and fingers.
In retrospect the GOP will realize that their error was not taking on the economic crunch head on instead of hoping it would not rear its ugly head until after the election.
Leo, your condescending and calculated style do not make you smarter than anyone here. I actually have more respect for JR and George, regardless of their outrageous comments, because they speak from the heart. In your attempt to appear smarter than everyone, you come across as cold, calculating and conniving. Kind of the Bill Maher or Michael Moore of Larry’s Blog. If that’s what you aspire to be, congratulations.
I suggest we all go back to substantive discourse about issues and not try to impress each other with the size of our youtube.
Relax everyone.Biden will put his foot in his mouth tonight,he almost always does.Palin will look better by comparison.Still think Obama wins, but with McCain you never know. His age does scare me & I wonder if Palin would be able to step in.I know as Governor you don’t have to be an expert on Foreign Affairs but the learning curve here seems steep.
OOOJ, it’s clear you haven’t seen any of Obama’s two-minute ads, in which he lays out fundamentals of his plans and makes no attacks at all, and that you haven’t visited his website. McCain is the one who has nothing affirmative to say. The man who promised not to run a negative campaign is virtually doing nothing but running a negative campaign at this point. It’s yet another of his numerous reversals that demonstrate he has no principle that he won’t compromise to try to win.
“Pirate Watch” is back in business. The latest info on the high seas escapades of the now famous pirate group nicknamed
“Chickens of the Sea” is in. The pirates are having a fire sale (today only). They’ve reduced their ransom demand from 20 million to 5 million, cash only, no credit cards. A fleet of US navy ships has been monitoring the situation and as of the latest report the pirates were seen loading goats, chickens, and various other animals on board. Are they reenacting Noah’s ark or are they preparing themselves for the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr? No one knows for sure. In the last voice transmission from the deck of the hijacked Ukrainian ship someone could be heard yelling “The Russians are coming !!The Russians are coming!!!” Stay tuned……
Welcome to life in the 21st century..
Ed-If you have time, hunt down a book called “Dangerous Waters” by John Burnett.I read a review of this book about 6 or so years ago & I found it intriguing that the author would claim Pirates still existed.Anyway,I got the book, read it & came away alarmed at what was going on without a lot of coverage.More frightening was the possibility that an oil tanker would be seized in the Strait of Malacca, choking the Strait & causing economic chaos.Add that to today’s mix & picture that scenario.
Leo, here’s a parlor game for you to play with your family tonight, enjoy!

Cm’on Larry your New Year’s celebration can’t last this long. This dried up topic and lack of avid contributors must tell you something. Give us veterans a little sumpthin to talk about. You do know there are pirates looming off the coast of Africa. They are armed with cell phones and computers and aren’t afraid to use them. I suggest you change the topic.
LARRY, CHANGE THE BLOG TOPIC AFTER THE DEBATE!
Sarah Palin performed very very well tonight, who would of guessed that Joe Biden would have been the one crying on stage say it ain’t Joe.
Mccain/Palin 2 – Biden/Obama 0
Say it ain’t so Joe.
jr, you’re still dreaming. Palin didn’t explode, but unless that’s the new bar for being a heartbeat away from leading the country, she lost that debate big time. Instant polls show that Biden was the one who appealed to independent voters. He also didn’t explode, despite what GOP spinmasters were claiming.
leo i don’t know what you’re smoking but the smoke gets in your eyes, all depends what poll your looking at,Fox News poll has Palin 84% to Biden 16% that is pretty clear who won.
Biden tried to use one of Hillary’s tricks with the crocodile tears it only works for woman.
McCain/Palin 2 Biden/Obama 0
Guinness just in: Palin set a record for number of winks at the camera!
Real time reactions had her much lower than Biden among uncommitted voters. Instant polls gave him the win by about the same that they gave it to Obama. I don’t know who Fox is polling. The staff of Fox & Friends?
Leo,we know you are worried just don’t start crying like Biden,Sarah Palin has just went into superstardom tonight, please Leo no crocodile tears (that’s Hillary’s trick)say it ain’t so Leo.
jr, thanks for the laughs. Palin was random tonight. She doesn’t lack confidence, she lacks coherence, as one observer put it.
Here’s a telling liveblog from conservative Andrew Sullivan: http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/10/live-blogging-t.html#more
andrew sullivan’s an idiot he was backing bush up until last year.say it ain’t so leo.
Palin got the name of the NATO commander in Afghanistan wrong. She said “McClellan.” I’d guess she’s thinking about Antietam, but I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t know what that was. She also got the strategy points all wrong. Mangle.
http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2008/10/02/politics/horserace/entry4497035.shtml
More instant poll results putting Biden’s performance far ahead.
jr, those FOX numbers came from a focus group sponsored by Budweiser. You know, the “beer” that Cindy McCain makes millions distributing. No conflicts of interest there. FOX was so concerned about Ifill, why aren’t they disclosing their own conflicts?
Mr Larry Sarah Palin win debate yes win debate change blog now I give free rickshaw ride.
Leo, I would say that Biden won debate on substance. Palin won on style. Overall, Angry Joe was far better than I (and most Dems) ever expected in my wildest dreams. Like a 1550 on the SAT good (I had him figured for 1000). Palin held her own, didn’t back down and was far better live than when ambushed and editted by Katie Couric/CBS. She’s really the only likeable and real person in this election. The rest are Washington and Chicago stiffs.
Don’t believe tv tracking polls. We’ve already established they are bogus and biased. All three networks will be renamed OBC – Obama Broadcasting Company in January.
LARRY, WE HATE TO DISTURB YOUR SOUND SLEEP BUT PLEASE CHANGE THE BLOG. WE JUST HAD ANOTHER MAJOR EVENT IN THE ELECTION PROCESS AND YOU NEED TO PARTICIPATE!
JR – a Fox News poll!. Are you kidding?
FJ, Fox is about the closest thing to balanced news. You won’t find anything about McCain/Palin but negative or lefthanded complements in the rest of the media.
LARRY, WAKE UP AND CHANGE BLOG PLEASE!
FJ,I agree with OOOJ sadly that’s the way the media is coming across to the American people.
OOOJ, I come close to agreeing with you in some part. Biden clearly won on substance. However, I don’t agree that Palin “won” on style. She did manage to survive the debate. Her “style,” however, was not one that the bulk of the electorate will gobble up. I thought she sounded best on energy, but at various other times she sounded like she was sheerly reciting talking points or parts of her stump speech instead of coming remotely close to answering questions. True, Biden didn’t squarely answer every question either, but with Palin it was more obvious, and it was somewhat painful to watch when she was clearly getting into areas beyond her comfort zone and the awkward phrasing, inapt slogans, and winking started rearing their heads. She reminds me a lot of Dubya, to be perfectly frank; she’s likeable but not knowledgable outside of a limited area (drilling for oil in Alaska vs. Dubya’s drilling for oil in Texas).
Biden didn’t come out of the gate strong in terms of making a connection with viewers, but I think he got fired up about halfway through, and from that point forward he carried the debate on style and substance. I agree with you that he exceeded expectations as well. He made a strong postive impression on a lot of people who didn’t really know him before. He was the guy, last night, whom I had supported initially in the Dem primaries.
People are going to see what they want to see of course. However, I don’t think there’s much doubt that, even if Palin stopped the bleeding, her performance was quite far from being the game changer that McCain’s campaign desperately needs. Biden shored up confidence in the Obama/Biden ticket and almost to a voter demonstrated that he has the knowledge for the job.
I disagree with your characterization of CBS’s interview and the media generally. That’s just a Dubya/McCain talking point.
palin cleaned his clock, she’ll be running in 2012 if mccain loses now.
Palin surprised on the upside, but when your holding your breath that
she not say something cringe inducing its pretty easy to do well. I wonder if anyone counted the number of times she said maverick, it was a bit comical. The awe shucks innocence is going to wear thin. McCain needs to send her out to Octoberfest picnics in the heartland for he rest of the time before the election.
Biden did pretty well, I don’t like him but he was not a jerk and had a good command of the debate. JR, I’m willing to give him a pass on getting choked up about family, he had a real tragedy and woman and it was a dfiar retort to PAlin being the queen hockey mom.
Leo, I think the folksy style that Palin tried too hard to demonstrate was way over done and a bit blatant but I do think the average person is looking for someone who does not speak down to them. Biden’s talking points were in Beltway talk. Palin tried to sound like who she is – a hockey Mom Governor from Alaska. The winks were as contrived as Hillary’s crying.
I thought Biden anticipated and killed her on most of her talking points.
It’s clear the networks have had enough of Bush, his policies and his attitude. They perceive McCain as 4 more years of the same. McCain has done or said nothing to change that perception. The networks have latched onto the story that is the first black President. It was more compelling than the first woman. Except for 2 weeks of perpheral examination of his relationship with Rev Wright, there has been no scrutiny of Obama whatsoever. Zero. Zip. Nada. No one has talked about Rezko, Ayers, or most importantly his voting record. Why is that? Why did the networks send teams of reporters to find “something” on Palin? It’s pretty clear the networks want change.
OOOJ, no one is talking about Rezko, Ayers, etc., because that’s such old news. That was all aired quite thoroughly by Hillary and, certainly, when Gibson and Stephopoppopotomus put hard questions to him during the Philadelphia primary debate. Going over it again and again isn’t “news.” Picking a governor that virtually no one in the lower 48 ever heard about and then claiming that her record is a record of reform makes a public issue about her record. People are curious to know about her because, unlike Obama, she hasn’t been on the national media stage for more than a year during the campaign. I’m generally cynical, but I don’t see any shade of an anti-Bush, anti-Palin conspiracy here. The press is doing what it is supposed to do. The founding fathers adopted the First Amendment to protect this kind of scrutiny and vetting. Indeed, choosing someone with such limited experience to be a heartbeat away from the presidency immediately makes her record fair game. It’s what people want to know about. I’d even go so far as to say the investigation of Palin’s record is driven by the free market and profit motive.
p.s. Imagine the field day that FOX would have had if there were a film of Obama being “exorcized” by a Kenyan preacher. I don’t know that speaking in tongues and being certified “witch free” is something that appeals to the “folksy” people out there in America. Maybe it does.
Hey ya’ll. I betcha all are thinkin’ I was pretty sharp at the debates. I worked hard and I’m so happy that I had a chance to give so much straight talkin’ to America. You know some people say I don’t have what it takes to lead the free world. Well I tell you I’m a maverick and I’m on a team of mavericks. I stood up to my own party, don’t cha know. John McCain stood up to our party in Washington D.C. and he did not win Miss Congeniality in the Senate. I did not win Miss . . . oh. Well, thanks fer watchin’. I’d wink at cha, but I don’t know how to write that.
Lonewolf I got my .30-06 out but I can’t find a helicopter. Yer lucky.
Leo,
Clearly Obama has been in the news for over a year now and some of the topics have been broached but I don’t think the press has gone after Obama or Angry Joe with the same ferver they have gone after Palin. It is ridiculous. Clearly Palin has afforded herself in an outstanding fashion but it is ridiculous.
Personally, I’m more concerned about knowing a lot more about the man who would be President than a woman that might under extraordinary conditions someday be President. Palin is a red herring. They have gone after her not because she was an unknown quantity as much as she served to potentially revive a moribund McCain campaign. New life. Outsider.
Went to the Phils game so I managed to miss most of the debate. When I got home the Uber Liberal Ms.Yankee was depressed. No,not because I came home but because she perceived Palin to be ahead in the debate. She didn’t answer the questions in the 15 or so minutes that I saw.
YAP, sounds like you should have married Kim Shee.
How about those Phillies? Must have been wild when Victorino hit the grandslam!
OOOJ, I’d say Sarah Palin is not a red herring insofar as she does reflect directly on McCain’s judgment, which is of the utmost concern to voters, or at least to that subset of voters that cares about substantive issues and not who sounds most like someone you’d like to have a beer with, etc.
I’ll agree to disagree about why the media has focused attention on her. To me it seems clear that McCain made a calculated “surprise pick” billed as a “game changer” so voters were naturally curious about the substance of her background, which they’re not obligated to take from McCain’s campaign staff’s glossy narrative.
Unfornately Sarah Palin makes a better cheerleader than a debater. Refreshing ….yes, fulfilling…not so much. McCain has to keep her on the sidelines and start to announce his cabinet choices if he wants to be taken seriously. That in effect might draw Obama out a bit. If we start to hear who Obama might choose for his cabinet America will get a better grasp on his political intentions.
That’s “unfortunately”
It wasn’t your basic staid baseball game, that’s for sure. Our section had a fair share of characters, all of whom brought their “A” game.
YAP, what about Kim Shee?
We’ll always have the Continental. You’re not pimping her are you ?
Ed-Get the book !
No YAP, though I find Kim Shee entertaining in a strange way, no pimping here. Never been to Continental. You are complaining about Mrs YAP again.
