Biden, Ridge Still In The Veep Mix - Rendell, Corzine and Casey At The Bat

Reliable sources in both political parties say that Joe Biden and Tom Ridge are still among the finalists for the VP slot of their respective parties.

Barack Obama’s comment that geography will be less important than the ability to govern, has spurred speculation that Biden , from one of the smaller states, but with one of the largest resume’s may have a real shot at number two. Tom Ridge has several problems, the most notable that he is a pro-choice Republican moderate. But, we understand, he has made the final cut because of his cross-appeal to Democrats and his intense loyalty to McCain.

The Olympics start in two weeks. Both sides will make their choices before that. The next 13 days will be fascinating in the battle for the White House.

Stars of the conventions. Watch for a lot of locals seeking high profiles at the Democratic and Republican Conventions.  The Dems start August 25th in Denver, and Ed Rendell, leader of a key battleground state, will be in the nation’s spotlight. Playing a lesser role will be a man with great national ambition, New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine. But the toast of the Obama convention will be Pennsyvania  Senator Bob Casey, who made a gutsy and pivotal decision during the Pa. primary in April. Casey, you understand,. will always be remembered by the Obama campaign for sticking his neck out. That will come in the form of high profile and high regard at the Convention.

On the Republican side, Arlen Specter, a good friend of McCain, will be treated with special care. Specter represents the moderate wing of the Republican party that basically runs things around here. He’s also a long time colleague of McCain and McCain’s alter-ego, Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman.

There’s a question in the news - how long will the Democratic membership of the Pa. House wait for an expected effort to change the Democratic leadership? The indictments in the alleged political scam by soms of the former powers of the Pa. House are under attack by press and the Republican party.  Is the summer lull before the storm?

I hope Ed Rendell announces a plan at the Convention that will bring slot gambling to every state in the nation and to national parks. Better yet, he should bring it to every public school. Not to knock FREE AIR, Larry, but slot gambling is the true panacea. And Ed’s the man to get it done.

For humorous effect, they should have Corzine arrive in a big SUV skidding out of control across the stage. That would be awesome.

We need slots on the Septa trains, something to do while commuting and added income to keep the floors clean.

Casey is a big winner. Larry you’re not the only one obssessed with Joe Biden for VP, WSJ has him as a front runner. I don’t get it, he is such a failure and has been rejected by voters nationally several times. How about that Caroline Kennedy? Larry you dismissed her endoresement of Obama as no big deal, well it seems to matter more than many, she is now the puppet master for VP selection, and I can assure you she’s not dumb enough to recommend Biden!

  3. July 28th, 2008 | 10:17 am

I still think Bactrack Obama will pick Webb but Biden’s name is always out there.

I’m thinking President McCain will wait for his second term before taking aim at the Free Air issue, way risky for a first term President.

I took it upon myself to look for JR on Sunday.Jumped on my trusty Surly & rode up to that Penny Park.Did see a middle aged guy with spandex on a black bike but it turned out to be a Trek, not a Schwinn.Could be he’s waiting for the convention & the official demise of Hillary.

I was wondering about that Larry, didn’t seem like your voice and doubt you’d air your personal life like that.

Mendte is at home with a lot of time on his hands, his dream of becoming Larry Kane is now over. I bet as a young boy he use to watch Action News and even set up a mock studio in his basement where he acted out Action News with the now legendary anchor Larry “the big story” Kane! A nice tribute but kind of creepy, like that King of Comedy movie with Jerry Lewis and Sandra Bernhard. I wonder if the fact that Mendte was bullied as a child has caused him to act out like this- that might be a good defense to explain his computer hacking- well probably not- but he’s going to need to tell the judge some reason for his criminal actions.

All, back from BBH, ME. Excellent weekend.
Larry (or his impersonator), forget the local connection as VP. Neither Biden nor Fast Eddie are even on the radar. Both old school and old news. Kathleen Sebelius will get the nod. Maybe Janet Naplitano. It will be a woman. It will not be Shrillary.
Again, Tom Ridge is not a heavyweight. Mitt Romney is John McCain’s only salvation. He makes Mitt the Economy Czar. Mitt starts doing adds about what they’ll do to save the economy. He is clearly the only one in either party that has any background or concrete solutions.
Selection of Mitt may force Obama to pick an ecomony heavyweight as well.
Three things that are becoming abundantly clear:
    1) THE #1 ISSUE IN THIS ELECTION IS JOBS AND THE ECONOMY. Not Iraq, not Healthcare, not Woman’s Rights, not GITMO, not Patriot Act, not Terrorism, and not what the networks are spewing.
    2) John McCain has no solutions for the economy. He thinks it will get better by itself.
    3) Barrack Obama has no solutions for the economy. Just rhetoric, slogans and hope.

Chris: You need some help. If you read the site, you know that the email was a fake! So why did you post it on your site!
You won’t be posting here any more.

I just checked the Stover site and that tool actually posted the lie about Larry’s marriage. He had to know it was fake and he needs to retract it. I stronly suggest other posters on this blog encourage Stover to do the right thing and remove it immediately.

George, I saw that. And he only got a $50 citation for hitting a homeless man and fleeing the scene in his Corvette. At least he’s suspending his “journalism” for the time being.

However, Novak’s illness doesn’t bode well for his ability to blow the cover off of the covert operative who is infiltrating Larry’s blog and posing as him. Maybe he’ll do it from his death bed. My top two guesses are 1) Larry Mendte, 2) Valerie Plame, and 3) jr, the typing dog.

What’s worse, the person who faked being Larry and told lies about his marriage, or Chris Stover, who knowingly posted those lies on his blog as news? Both are bad, but Stover is worse in my view. If he doesnt retract by the end of today, he will likely be struck by the same fate as Robert Novak! Don’t tempt fate Mr Stover,,,

    George,
No one reads the Stover blog anyway. So its kind of like the tree that falls alone in the forest. I doubt you’ll see a retraction. Perhaps the pirates should take over his blog…
LB, if your blog notion that there are only 3-4 bloggers on Larry’s site, it should be easy for Larry to figure out. Unless someone figured out his password as you suggested. Don’t forget to add Jim Gardner and KerriLee to your list of cyber suspects.

Maybe Larry’s wife should be doing this blog. Maybe she has more free time than Larry. Maybe Larry could spend more time on free air. Why does Larry care about free air if he rides SEPTA? If Larry could get free air, would he no longer ride SEPTA and worry about dirty cars?

FAFL, Larry is the people’s poet, the champion of the common man. Not everyone gets to live on the Main Line and ride the fantabulous R5. Some schlubbs have to drive old jalopies, and they need air in their rotting old bias-ply tires. Who’s supposed to pay for that air? Not the salt-of-the-earth fella who just wants a few hours of respite at the dog track. Make the gasoline station owners subsidize them with FREE AIR!

  26. Free Air! Free Larry!
    July 29th, 2008 | 4:05 pm

LB, you are the poet. Larry is in too much of a hurry to be a poet. Its like comparing painting a wall with a flat latex versus a professional mural. Larry’s not even taking time to insure the wall is completely covered.
YFAP, I miss your inputs. Where is my pegleg buddy these days?

BTW, George, congrats on convincing Stover to remove the Larry blog from his website. Kudos.

Thanks FAFL. Stover did the right thing.

I must say I feel bad about wishing cancer on Novak last Saturday, as he was not striken until Saturday night at his daughter’s house on the Cape, and did not really know of the tumor until Sunday. It may be that the hit and run was a result of the tumor and not to cover drugs, alchohol, or his own negligence or cowardice. So,hopefully Novak finds good treatment and buys some quality time if in fact he was not responsible for the hit and run accident.

Well boys, today is the day for Larry’s midweek blog change. So if you can sit tight until tonight, we should be back on cleaning SEPTA, free air or another innocuous topic. Perhaps a comment or 2 about Chris Stover…

Chris, you got your 15 minutes. If you want to be taken seriously it’s a good idea to report things that are true. I can see how you could have been misled, as the format of that post looked like the way Larry comments, but once it was clear that it was not him, then correct yourself, its how you will gain respect as a journalist. Your site looks legitimate, so why not keep it that way, its a good way to be succesful in the long run. Also you dont want the wrath of Larry’s loyal followers. We may give him a hard time here, but its a family atmoshere and nobody wants someone telling lies about their personal life, there’s plenty of real dirt out there.

One thing of interest is whether Dawn Stensland knew what her husband was up to. Since she’s in the business and could gain from the demise of Alycia Lane, is it possbile she knew what was up long before the story broke? And given Mendte’s insecure personality it seems he’d tell his wife to impress her how clever he was to be break all that news to destroy Lane’s career. Why dont you look into that and let us know what you find- Perez Stover.

  37. July 30th, 2008 | 9:58 pm

Leo: I do not live on the Main Line although it is a beautiful area. Leo, you are stereotyping me again.

As far as Chris Stover, I think its wonderful to have a blog like that, but repeating a phony blog entry with bogus info is not good. I think Chris understands that, and yes Chris, I did delete the original note because it was wrong.

As far as this commotion over “free air”, unlike the Presidential candidates, I will not flip flop on that issue. Air for our tires should be free!

I mean, it’s not Iran or Iraq, but it is MY issue!

Thanks for writing. Maybe we should have a regular contributor’s lunch, or we could ride a Septa train together, or share an air hose!!!

Apologies, Larry, on the stereotype. I based it on a prior statement you made about taking the R5 train. Most people I know who take that train live on the Main Line.
