There was a time when Ralph Nader was a consumer crusader who was more interested in safety in products than he was in promoting himself. That was before the days when the need for ego gratification became prioriity number one. Now, Nader, agains indulging himself in a Presidential campaign he cannot win, has assailed Barack Obama for “talking white.” Can you imagine this so called expert on free speech and democracy injecting race into the campaign? Yo Ralph, cool it, get a grip, find a lemon of a car to take on.

As Ronald Reagan used to say, “check and verify.” “Check and verify.” The North Koreans have had more broken promises than any government in the world. This writer has continually complained about conditions at the airport - dirty bathrooms, filthy concourses etc. I’m happy to report that things have changed for the better on Michael Nutter’s watch. Terminal A EAST is a model of what a great airport should look like - sparkling clean and user friendly. NOW IF ONLY THE TSA INSPECTORS WOULD LOOK AT YOUR FACE WHEN THEY MATCH THE BOARDING PASSES AND THE ID’S! This is the one area of airport security that needs to be fixed. TSA inspectors are much to casual when they match the face to the ticket.

Larry, the TSA workers will pay attention to detail when you start to pay attention to the kinds of detail that matter in your line of work. Here, it’s “too” casual, not “to” casual, as you seem to think. And since when do people use an apostrophe s to indicate the plural? Apostrophe s indicates the possessive, Larry. So it’s “IDs,” not “ID’s.” I learned that in fourth grade. So stop casting stones, ye whose windows are also made of glass.

The Supreme Court held that the federal government cannot bar individuals from owning handguns in their homes for purposes of self defense. How does this affect Nutter’s plans to get guns out of Philadelphia? I don’t think the Supreme Court has ever held that the Second Amendment applies to state or local governments (via the Fourteenth Amendment).

Larry, you are disingenuous regarding the Nader remark. Just a few days ago Obama injected race by saying to a black audience when he thought he was not being recorded “the republicans will say I’m young, inexperienced, and by the way did you know he was black?” Where is your outrage on such cowardly race baiting?
Nader had the courage to be on mike and speak his mind and say something very truthful about his opponent. Obama was a local organizer who started in the grass roots of a black area, but now he never mentions any of those issues, for fear of being considered too black or like Jesse Jackson et al. Nader was dead on, Obama’s talking white- period. What about the honest debate Obama asked us to have on race. Sounds like a one sided debate, where Obama can say whatever he wants about race when it suits him (e.g. white grandma afraid of blacks) but Nader makes a fair point and used the short hand phrase “talking White ” to mean he’s sucking up to the white constiuency at the expense of his black contituency who perhaps have much greater needs. Nader is spot on, but Larry, you will never call a spade a spade, and expose the double standard that allows Obama to coast along without any challenges from the press. You are a sad excuse for a fair and balanced political pundit.

There’s a big difference between Barack telling people that people like Limbaugh are going to use his race (and middle name, and, presumably, bottles full of OxyContin) to scare people about him, and Nader effectively accusing Barack of trying to “pass.” Don’t forget, he was raised by whites and is half caucasian.

You used a phrase that has its origins in ethnic hatred, and you were ignorant about it (e.g., claiming it refers to a pack of cards). Not everything that is racist is about white/black relations. Racism goes far beyond that. It’s a mindset, and the ostensible inability of racists to discuss it in a mature fashion is part of that mindset. People may find my explanation of the origins of “call a spade a spade” absurd, but it is historically accurate. Just because you like to think spade automatically refers to something else doesn’t make the accurate explanation absurd.
