Dare To Be Great – Some DIFFERENT VP Choices

Everyone has a favorite choice for VEEP. But before I offer some DIFFERENT CHOICES, keep in mind that polls show that wives of candidates are viewed as being more important than VP candidates when voters make up their minds. Since many of you accuse me of favoring Ed Rendell and Joe Biden (you’re right on that), I offer some alternatives!

For the Democrats:

Bill Bradley, former Senator. I served in the Air Force with the basketball giant. He’s got the smarts, but he needs some energy on the stump. Was one of first to endorse Obama.

John Edwards – Says he doesn’t want it which means he does. Still attractive to millions of Americans. Downside: slick.

Chuck Hagel – Rebel Republican. Good Defense credentials. Dislikes Bush.

Chris Dodd. Conn. Senator is perfect. Smart and not capable of taking the spotlight away from Obama.

Caroline Kennedy. Co-chair of Obama VP search committee. It worked for Dick Cheney in 2000. He just picked himself.

Brad Pitt. Good looks. Nice girlfriend. Babies. Public service.

Tim Russert. I just like the guy. See below.

FOR THE REPUBLICANS:

Newt Gingrich. Could satisfy the right wing which wants to punish McCain.

Tom Ridge. No one could be more impactful than Ridge. His face looks like he belongs on Mount Rushmore.

Hillary Clinton. Now that would be the story of the year. Does John McCain have the guts ? Would she do it? What does Bill think?

Liz Dole. Still popular. Good in the South. Fascinating choice.

Christie Whitman – The anti-Bush Repubican, Helps get New Jersey

General Petraeus. Don’t know his party. But our Commander in Iraq LOOKS like VP material.

And Tim Russert, just because I like him.

    hello Larry,
this is a fun idea, for the democrats i would go with Brad Pitt he has public service and foreign experience and with his wife Angelina Jolia, she would take off the pressure from michelle obama and her nasty diposition, plus Angelina is a heck of alot easier to look at then the sourpuss michelle obama.
    ****************
on the republican side of course if John Mccain had the courage to take on Hillary Clinton he would have a landslide victory, and Hillary would be the future of the party,(privately the GOP would love to have Hillary in the party),of course Larry you brought up Hillary because she sells newspapers and draws hack/hill hater bloggers
    ****************
    COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY
    ****************
at one time i made sure i tuned in to tim russert but his lapdog loyalty to barry obama has turned a lot of people off and i will not watch his show ever again.
    ***************
while they have great public service records Tom Ridge and Bill Bradley would be great pitch men for people suffering with insomnia.i think that is where they can help millions of people cure there sleeping problems.Larry i am tired and i am going to sleep, thank you ridge and bradley.

jr, where do you buy all that crack you’re smoking? I’ve met Michelle. Her disposition is much sunnier than that of your erstwhile squeeze, Hillary the Horrible. One of those women had to work hard for what she achieved, and it wasn’t Hillary.

If McSame chose Hillary as his VP candidate, his ticket would collapse. Independents and Republicans will not vote for her. Do you understand, jr, that aside from the people who voted for her, America generally finds her to be offensive and grating?

McSame won’t choose Dole. She’s too old. He kicks women like that to the curb. And Christie Whitman didn’t manage to be born into a fortune, so don’t look for him to choose her either. At 62 or so, she’s also much to old for his tastes.

Chuck Hagel would be an interesting choice for Obama. He’d potentially cut into the little bit that McSame has going for him (i.e., McSame’s illusion of being a moderate Republican) and further help Obama with independents. He’d also put real credibility in to the idea of Obama as someone who looks beyond party lines for quality in ideas, etc. Hagel buries Lieberman as an “outside the party” choice.

leo-the public’s view of michelle obama is that is not proud of america and she is meaner than a junk yard dog.
    ********
well i’ve met Hillary & Chelsea and they are sweet as peaches and great looking.
    ********
the gop would love to have Hillary on the ticket, she would have the gop/independent and 1/2 dems vote.
    ********
so you met michelle obama, well my friend i met chelle chelle and she tried to attack me,security had to hold her back.
    ********
over confidence and boasting will always come back to haunt you,,get off the obama juice leo,

    Larry,
your choice of candidates is childish, immature and your dignity as a reporter in in jeopardy despite your so called legacy.

The left wing candidtaes you propose are way too left and the right are way to right.

    How about Collin Powell?

The person who will be VP is the person Obama picks. No need for guess work. As for questioning Michelle’s character, it is more appalling for me to see Laura Bush, as kind as she is, stand by, love and support a man who sent so many Americans into harms way for no solidly good reason.

Her family members got married, lived great lives, and got all the protection in the world while the common American bites the bullet.

Get off Michelle’s back because at least she doesn’t support those who kill Americans.

  6. June 12th, 2008 | 7:09 am

Not a credible name on either list.By the way Larry, you mentioned you served with Bill Bradley. After Princeton (1965)Bradley went to Oxford, played for a year in the Italian League & by 1967 had made his way into the NBA.Not much time for an Air Force commitment.Reserves ?

Larr, you need to get more in touch with the “right wing”. (Just curious, why do we never read about the “left wing”?)

The “right wing” has no more love for Newt Gingrich than it does for McCain.

jr, you’re equating Fox News with the “public.” You’re talking about Fox News’s distorted version of Michelle, which is short on facts and which appeals only to the ignorant and uneducated, who are willing to judge someone at the drop of a hat, even when they have no idea who that person is. When America comes to know her, America will embrace her. Besides, she has the all American story: born into a tough neighborhood, she worked hard and seized the brass ring. What’s Cindy’s all American story? Oh, born into a fortune. That’s really relatable . . . to about .1% of the population. Michelle will be a fantastic first lady.

I don’t know why Larry didn’t include Webb or Clark as possible Obama picks. McSame has a bigger problem — they have to make sure his pick doesn’t turn out to be Larry Craig or Vitter. Hell, they have to make sure McSame doesn’t turn out to be Vitter.

tooth-i don’t watch fox news, the facts and dropping hats did not stop you from bashing the Clintons for the last 16 months/years,you even attacked Chelsea and she is not running for office.

now you want to bash John Mccain a real war hero.

tooth-do you shake your pom poms when you watch msnbc ‘news’,hopefully america comes to know barry before they know chelle chelle because america thinks she is very mad/mean,maybe she is what we need to fight terrorism.

jr, show me where I ever “attacked” Chelsea.

I don’t watch news. There are too many other sources of information. I can’t waste my time watching the talking heads. You’re either watching Fox, listening to Limbaugh, or reading right wing blogs. Maybe you’re boning up on Michelle Malkin, who dragged out some racist hate about Obama’s “baby mama.”

With Hillary, the hat dropped for more than eight years. She’s a disaster and a divider. She’s unelectable and, guess what, she won’t be elected because SHE LOST THE PRIMARY!

  11. June 12th, 2008 | 1:40 pm

Larry, maybe you served with Bill’s less successful brother,Milton.

    laqrry,
tim Russert is a creep. He is an obama supporter and he used his position as a tv person to promote obama and dis hillary all the time. He should be ashamed of himself, but they say what goes round comesround. His day is coming, along with philadelphias favorite, chris matthews, what a disgrace,

Larry, what do you think about the SEPTA police demanding the same pay as Philadelphia police? As ridership costs are already among the highest in the nation, should riders have to pay even more? I hardly ever see SEPTA police anywhere on my commute on the El and the 100 line, whether on trains or on platforms. Meanwhile, people eat on the trains, drink alcohol on the trains, and even sell drugs on the trains. The trains are filthy. Should such inadequate service by SEPTA police be rewarded with a $10,000+ raise and increased ridership costs? They didn’t even protect those people who were assaulted recently. I think they should show some effort before they come asking for more money.

Larry, look out for the nuts who are against anyone who supported Obama. They’re becoming increasingly shrill as it becomes clear that he’ll be the next president. Maybe your inside sources can get them some thorazine to help calm the voices that drive them to hate and ramble.

    June 12th, 2008 | 7:12 pm

Leo, we are on the same page with the Septa police. These people tend to be the rejects from the Philadlepia police force and they are both lazy and dangerous. My experience is with Amtrak police, which are a notch above Septa and still below a regualar city cop. In the early 1990s I witnessed an Amtrak cop jacked up on steriods pick a fight with a cab driver who was bigger than him, and when the guy didnt cower the cop paniced, maced him for no reason and beat the crap out of him at 30th street station. Amtrak cops also shot a homeless man who was weilding a a small chair near the McDonalds a few years ago. These second tier police such as SEpta and Amtak should not be paid as much because they are inferior (maybe 50% are good) they are either Barney Fifes, or macho jack-holes, or simply stupid cowards. Septa cops are not worth extra money. Mayor Nutter should look to consolidate Septa policing under Philadelpia system, train them the same, test the same and then they get equal pay as City cops.

Wow Leo, we could have beer over this one, then go to a spa and shopping and next thing you know we’re at at a bed and breakfast in New Hope ;)

For the life of me, I can’t believe Larry is still stupid enough to suggest Republican VP’s for Obama. There are only 49 democratic senators, and Larry thinks the tie-breaking VP should be in the other party.
