What Is Wrong With Jimmy Carter? The Ex President Embraces Sponsors Of Murder and Terror

Jimmy Carter was a below average President, but he was an intelligent man with the nation’s interests at heart. That chapter in his life is over. He is clearly an obstructionist to the national interests. His defiance of State Department wishes shows that he is more interested in himself than the nation at large.

The fact that Carter would meet and embrace a Hamas leader is indicative of his betrayal of American interests. President Carter, as ex President, is offering solace and support to a terrorist government that has embraced the savage murder of civilians as a policy of its tiny and distorted dictatorship. President Carter needs to face reality, the reality that these are the same types of terrorists who destroyed his own chances of getting a second term by their defiance of the norm of international relations. Now, he thumbs his nose not just at the Bush administration, but at the Democrats and Republicans who urged  him not to go, not to reward the killers.

This is a painful moment in the retired life of Jimmy Carter. It is a sad moment for the American dialogue overseas. It will be an even sadder moment when he meets soon with the Supreme Hamas leader in Syria.

Former Presidents who served our country deserve our respect.  President Carter and his erratic and anti-Semitic behavior in the last several years, has compromised himself, and at the same time, his nation.

Larry, you could say the same thing about people who embrace the Israeli government, which also kills civilians displaced from their land. Hamas was democratically elected. I thought Bush wanted to usher in democracy in the Arabiac lands. Flip flop?

Jimmy Carter was a complete embarrassment as President. Other than his good work with Habitat for Humanity, nothing has changed. He’s been a loose cannon in his after life. Former Presidents should not be self-proclaimed emissaries of the US. They should not be allowed to represent the US in delicate foreign policy situations unless officially sponsored by the sitting President and part of an overall US strategy.

What do Jimmy Carter and Mel Gibson have in common? According to Larry Kane both are anti-Semitic. According to much of the mainstream in America and around the world, both are devoted Christian men, who have done much charitable work, and have distiquished themselves with great accomplishments. Both also have personal flaws and have experienced lapses in judgement during their lives.

Larry has yet to charge the Reverend Wright as being anti-Semitic, even though he’s on video spewing anti- Semitic rhetoric and has never apologised for it. We must ask, would Barrack Obama have talked to Larry last week if Larry had the courage to have called his minister an anti-Semite in is column? Of course not!

It’s clear Larry likes to allege anti-Semitism only when it’s a safe target and won’t cost him professionally. Otherwise, he should have been all over Reverend Wright, as many courageous Jews have been from the first day Wright’s hate filled anit Semitic rhetoric came to light. In fact, I dare Larry to utter one critical word about the good Reverend Wright, it just won’t happen!

Jimmy Carter suffers from BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome). He’s so consumed with BushHate that he will do anything and take any position that is opposite of the Bush administration.

He’s the Benedict Arnold of our time.

Since when is speaking to an elected government equivalent to “embracing” that government? Larry, you should be ashamed of the misleading title you gave to your post. (You do have a dictionary, right? “Embracing” is under “E.”)

Carter may not always make the best decisions, but simply talking to Hamas doesn’t mean he’s “embracing” them. And it doesn’t make him an anti-semite, which is a charge you should level carefully, not indiscriminately, or it will lose its effectiveness.

  9. Ed
    April 16th, 2008 | 9:12 am

Doesn’t Jimma have to show us his income tax returns before he goes off to embrace these Hamas leaders? If nothing else I would like to know if he is keeping up with the Clintons.
Larry, just because Jimma has a problem with Israel’s politics doesn’t automatically mean he is anti-semitic.
He is a nut job, for sure, but branding him anti-semitic is you being a little too sensitive. I’m tired of being sensitive. It’s like walking on egg shells out here in the real world. If one treads too hard, “crack” a law suit, a protest or a riot. It’s always can’t say that or don’t do that because it will upset someone or some group. Just look at the furor Obama created with his “bitter” remark. Although in reality I didn’t see any white small town religious gun toters out on the street protesting. That was you journalists stirring up that pot of hooey.

What’s really ashame is that the Democrat-Media Complex touts Benedict Carter as a “great statesman”, when he just goes into countries for his own self-aggrandizement and either mucks things up, sides with the communists, or takes the anti-American position.

And of course it appears that the foreign country loves him – of course they do – he takes the anti-American position they espouse.

  15. Leo Bloom
    April 16th, 2008 | 11:42 am

Joe, I’m glad you didn’t oversimply or distort the issue in your insightful analysis of it. You are the one voice of the American position. I’m just glad Obama didn’t support the anti-American position of invading Iraq under false pretenses and getting 4,000+ American soliders killed as a consequence. Or was that the American position?

  16. Ed
    April 16th, 2008 | 1:10 pm

Hey Leo, I like Joe’s assessment of Carter. Carter is out there on his own trying to recreate his legacy. He knows history will not be kind to him.
As for Obama, I’m not sure he had enough information about America when he voted against the war. His idea of America consisted of life in Hawaii, life with Rev. Wright and life at Harvard. That kind of exposure to “American life” can be equated to Tiger Woods teeing it up at the Masters while the rest of us are playing Cobbs Creek. We can all say we are playing golf but the experience for Tiger is quite different than the experience for us. At least Tiger doesn’t come across as an elitist.

  17. Leo Bloom
    April 16th, 2008 | 2:12 pm

Ed, funny, in your hurry to paint Obama as an elitist you left out the parts about Kansas and Chicago. And was he on vacation in Hawaii? Hawaii is not a state? C’mon. Be intellectually honest.

And Obama didn’t vote against the war. He was running for Senate at the time, and he made his opposition plain. It was McCain and Hillary who loved the idea.

Why is everyone overlooking the fact that Carter was there for the Camp David accords that brought Sadat and Begin together? That may be one of the only things he did actually accomplish during his presidency. He may be trying to broaden that, but it’s not only for his greater glorificaiton. He does actually get some respect from both sides in that area, and it’s because he isn’t a jingoistic nincompoop. He understands that there are deep set problems there that won’t be solved by ignoring them or waiving an Amercian flag in everyone’s face. Give him some credit.

  18. Ed
    April 16th, 2008 | 2:59 pm

Leo, this is how stupid I am. You mean all this rhetoric from Obama about being against the war is just rhetoric. Could have fooled me. So he didn’t even have to make a “real” decision about the war. It was just a what if or to be more accurate a what I would have done. Not too convincing if you ask me. As for Chicago, I did mention Rev. Wright, and Hawaii I guess technically you’re right but free schooling at a prestigious prep school and living in paradise…….not quite a hardship.
Forget Jimmy Carter he is not worth arguing about unless you are talking about his proficiency with a hammer.

  19. Leo Bloom
    April 16th, 2008 | 4:00 pm

Ed, he had to make a decision about his position in a primary field running against a number of other candidates for the Democratic slot on the ticket for that seat. It was a real decision, but it admittedly wasn’t a vote on the floor of the Senate. He gave speeches about his position at the time he was running. But that’s such old news there is nothing controversial about it. It just goes to show how ill-informed some people are.

Hawaii may be pretty, but you can’t eat the scenery. People there have to work, too, you know.

And you’re right. History will obviously look at Bush, not Carter, as the one who was right on policy in the Middle East.

  20. Ed
    April 16th, 2008 | 5:47 pm

Leo, I’m sure that I am not the only one who thought Obama voted against the war. I mean for Christ’s sake I buy a thirty thousand dollar car and don’t go to the assembly line to make sure I get what was advertised. Give me a break! Obama advertises that he is against the war with a fervor that only someone who has stood up to the general consensus could do, yet he voted for money to see the that the surge went through. I don’t hear anything about that “real” vote.
Your sarcastic remarks are beneath you. Bush and Carter will be judged in history not today.

Although I believe Carter drank the liberal Kool-Aide long ago, I also believe that he is doing what he is with Hamas in order to pin down, once and for all, just what Hamas and the PLO types want so that he can then go to Israel, sit down with the Israelis and lay out the deal. Possibly, there may be something in the deal for everyone. Otherwise, of course, Israel has every right to protect and defend itself from terrorism…thus, Israel will be able to use Carter’s attempts at peace to first, negotiate in good faith, and if such final negotiation fails, then to massively and without pulling any punches, totally wipe out Hamas and its terrorists just as Joshua did so.

I hate the thought of the “woman scorned” getting into the White House after her husband was impeached for lying to the GRAND JURY, and for having an affair while “working” with an employee of the US Government. She said she would make her impeached husband an ambassador of the world. YIKES!

Meanwhile HuffPo reports she told bill the “screw” the white middle class in 1995. Where was that? Oh, it wasn’t asked because Sean Hannity didn’t tell George to ask that. Barack wasn’t as fluid as he was when he defeated her in the other 20 or so debates, but I think you’re overstating things. jim,jim,jim,4 years ago john kerry should have won the prize but he let the rightwingers paint him as being weak and a flip flopper and he just wasn’t tough enough and just let them frame him, this is what will happen to obama the rightwingers will paint him as not strong and a flip flopper and other charges, and john kerry had much more experience than obama and was a vietnam war hero,
that is why Hillary is stronger and tougher than barry and will not let the rightwingers push her around, and can stop a bush/chaney third term.
i’ll take the eight of clinton over the eight years of bush and so would most americans, and bill wore the flag pin.

  44. SteveMG

What makes you think Clinton will be any different from Bush? You’ve already seen how loyalty trumped competence in her campaign, and what makes you think she would roll back the Executive Branch encroachments on our checks and balances. Expediency is the one word operating system. She be trying so hard to prop up her CinC cred that she’ll let the generals walk all over her so they don’t complain. She’ll make sure the DOJ remains the President’s personal law firm to keep the Republicans from launching the inevitable investigations after the certain mid terrm election catastrophe. No healthcare plan of hers will get anywhere near the floor because it will be toxic to both sides who will simply resume the fight where they left off in the mid 90′s.
Obama has done a much better and braver job of facing up to his flaws and his negatives than either McCain or Clinton. No President will be perfect, but I certainly think Obama will be a fair and intelligent President.

    JR,
You still haven’t answered FJ’s questions or mine.
Wearing an American Flag on your lapel does not make you a great American. Neither does having several scandals and impeachment proceedings while in office.
HRC may be overtly tougher than Obama but that doesn’t necessarily make her a better President. In fact she’s trying so hard to appear tougher than Obama that she’s repeated lied about snipers in Bosnia. If she gets a call at 3AM she’s likely to tell them it’s a wrong number and roll over and go back to sleep. God knows she needs her beauty sleep. Frankly, I don’t trust her. I do not trust her husband. We need a dramatic change in this country, not the same old culprits. If you are afraid of a man of color being President than that’s your deal. I just want what is best for the party and the country.
