Up Close With Barack Obama – The Real Deal At A Suburban High School

I spent a few hours at Great Valley High in Malvern where Barack Obama conducted another one of his patented contemporary version of political rock star in concert. What impressed me about the rally was the response by the high schoolers to specific issues. I have not seen that kind of enthusiasm for politics in decades.

For his part, Obama is flawless as he discusses the economic issues of the times with clarity and a great deal of humor. The candidate is placed on a podium that makes it appear that he is one of the crowd. It is very clever staging, but he handles the question and answers deftly and without hesitation.

Behind the scenes, the campaign apparatus is flawless. The Obama campaign staffers are young, spirited, and amazingly polite. I remember the Al Gore campaign in 2000, and the layers of bureacracy, and how poorly it was run. Whoever designed the internal aspects of communications for Obama is a genius in planning.

AFTER THE RALLY, I TALKED TO OBAMA IN A ONE-ON-ONE FOR KYW NEWS RADIO. THE ENTIRE INTERVIEW CAN BE HEARD AT KYW1060.com. This is a different type of interview touching on some personal aspects of his style. But I was surprised to hear his cautious confidence about the Pa. Primary.

For you Hillary fans, have no fear. We’ve offered her the same opportunity. Still waiting for the RSVP.

Once again, beginning Thursday morning, the entire Obama interview is on KYW1060.com.

No need to give Hillary equal time. JR is gone and I have seen the light! In fact I’ll be attending service with Rev Wright next Sunday. Hallelujah!

Well, Larry, seems you’ve come to your senses and left the Dark Side for the rebels! Be careful…the Dark Side and The Empire have lots of minions and moles such as the Man who would be King of New Jersey, and he is pals with the owner of your blog base! If I were you, I would send my resume out to other blog bases such as Gannet.

  3. April 10th, 2008 | 6:07 am

…and speaking of schools…how about the Trouble witb a capital “T” going on at the Mifflin School in East Falls, the home of Fast Eddie and Mr RepLib, himself…both of whom would rather stay in the City than fly to Montco?
…well, now that Barack has placed his imprimatur on race discussions, it seems that the management at the School was transferred due to insensitivy to the black kids…and now, some kids (presumably white) have defaced black kids faces in a mural and are retaliating against perceived black kids who attack whites in the Philly subway system. Are ya feelin’ it yet, Larry? OK, I’ll help ya! The Trouble is why the whites fled! They did not want to face up to the problems in the City, so they fled. Larry, you need a roadmap to peace in the middle east (Philly)!

  4. April 10th, 2008 | 8:28 am

I was going to inquire if anyone fainted but…. geez Larry,it sounds as if maybe you did.And does anyone else out there think that Obama giving a speech on race relations indicates a complete lack of respect for irony ? Just wondering.

Hillary has more experience . . . participating in presidential campaigns. This is her third one. And look how badly she’s mismanaged it. Her campaign has serious debts, it isn’t engaging people well, and it’s bureaucratic and requires frequent shake-ups. If that’s what we can expect from her “experience,” then I’m all for the rock star. This is his first campaign, and he’s nailing it. I think we could expect more of the same from him as president.

A rock star is what this country needs? Many would strongly say with a resounding NO. And would we want him and his racist wife whose loyalty and patriotism to this country are in question? How about Wright and Farakhan in the WH as advisors? If you want G*d D**n America then please think not only twice but a 3 or 4 times. We do not want our country to be in peril. God Bless America.

RW, I’d agree with you, but it’s primarily FauxNews scare tactics by the sound of it, not Clinton machine tactics. I thought you’d know that by now, having been subjected to so much racism on the part of FauxNews personnel. But, then, according to FauxNews, anyone can be a patriot if he puts an enameled pin of the swasti . . . er, flag in his lapel.

  11. April 10th, 2008 | 2:09 pm

Wait,Leo,he’s “nailing it ” ? In what parallel universe is he ” nailing it ” ? This is too funny. As far as getting more from him while President, forget it,he’ll get crushed.Crushed.

McCain has experience making poor decisions and it started all the way in Vietnam when ignored his orders and got shot down. It continued with his support of an illegal war. And it ends with his support of the failed Bush economic plan.

From what I’ve heard, PA voters are not getting quite the thrill up their leg as Larry seems to be. I personally find the idea of an inexperienced pandering smooth-talking rock star for president to be exactly what we don’t need. And for starters, he has failed miserably in his first challenge as a uniter: to unite his own party. His post-racial posture jibes poorly with his determined effort to create a racial divide by branding the Clintons as race-baiters. His participation in and exploitation of the deep-seated misogyny in the media and internet has angered countless women voters. And his ongoing effort to disenfranchise two entire states for his benefit is hardly the act of a unifier. Include me out.

MCaesar, I agree. And as if he has anything to do with “disenfranchising” voters. The state parties did that when they moved up their primaries in contravention of the DNC’s rules. And Hillary supported that disenfranchisement last fall before she saw that she might actually need those votes and flip-flopped like the wanton opportunist she is.

The ease with which Barack Obama responds to questioning is the result of a solid foundation upon which he built his character and principles.

If experience, wisdom and judgment may be relied upon to judge a presidential candidate’s character and abilities to solve problems, then let’s look at the records of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

2007 – While Barack Obama promoted a restoration of balance between work and wealth and criticized special interests for distorting U.S. tax codes, Hillary Clinton and her husband liquidated their blind trust of the nearly $50 million amassed during their years in public office.

2002 – While Barack cautioned that without clear rationale an invasion of Iraq would encourage the worst impulses of the Arab world and strengthen the recruitment arm of Al Qaeda, Hillary told Larry King she didn’t regret her vote on the Iraq war resolution because like the Bush administration, the Clinton administration viewed Saddam Hussein as a threat to the international community.

1999 – While Barack secured bipartisan support for health-care reform and passage of low-income tax credits and child care subsidies in the Illinois legislature, Hillary supported her husband’s Iraq “regime change” policy in order to divert public attention from the president’s marital, legal and ethical infidelities.

1989 – While Barack Obama served as the Harvard Law Review’s first black president, Hillary Clinton then wife of the Arkansas governor received payments from a law firm that was doing the state’s business and received board of director payments from Wal-Mart where she remained silent about Wal-Mart’s anti-labor union practices.

1979 – While Barack Obama was actively involved in the South African divestment movement to end apartheid, Hillary reaped profits of almost 10,000% in the futures markets and left taxpayers with her real-estate losses in the Savings & Loan bailout.

THE OBAMA YEARS 1971 to 1979-self admitted drug use such as:Smack-Blow-drinking daily-
Pothead-Junkie,is this a solid foundation to build character and priciples with? or a home base when times get tough,,not to mention mentoring with a hate monger every sat and sunday.
Hillary has great wisdom and judgement
and never used these drugs she was focused from day one.

Bill, you forgot she was smoking and not inhaling, right along Bill during the “Yoko Ono” years. And then she stayed with him through all the womanizing just to get a shot at running for office. Tell me about poor judgment. Barack has been incredibly successful, drug use as a teen or not. He seems to have done a fine job building character and principles. You don’t graduate from Harvard Law having been editor of the Law Review unless you’ve seriously got it going on upstairs. Hillary? She was on Wal-Mart’s board, the same company that mistreats its workers and peddles Chinese manufactured goods. Great judgment. And Barack didn’t kill Vince Foster.

Barack will win after McCain strokes out during their second debate. Mark my words. And he’s no “fraud,” whatever you mean by that. McCain is the Manchurian Candidate. You know he’s a sleeper agent for Communist China. What do you think they were doing with him when he was in captivity? They programmed him to come back to the U.S., marry a rich woman, and become politically active. They want to control us financially and politically –if he survives and becomes president, he’ll keep borrowing money from China to pay for Iraq. And then they’ll show him the Queen of Hearts . . . .

  29. April 11th, 2008 | 9:18 am

Rev-Who cares about the Clintons ? Bill’s a scumbag & Hilary’s just a desperate politician.I wouldn’t be the one to comment on “youthful indescretions” so you need another tract.I’ll say Hallelujah in November when McCain wins. When he crushes BHO.No comment on the eyewear.

In an age where we manufacture rock stars (American Idol)I find it very scary how willy nilly people jump on the Obama band wagon. His rise to fame is manufactured similar to that horrific show that lurks just below what I consider absurd. The auditions, the votes, the publicity, its all the same except we are electing the next president not the next “Idol”.
Forget the 3am calls. Can Obama tell me how he received scholarships to prestigious schools and was never a very good student? He spent several years on the Chicago streets and then just decided to return to Harvard for a law degree. How did that happen? I’d like to go to Harvard too. So would a zillion other people. Also his Chicago power base includes the Rev. Wright that guy Rezko and a sixty’s radical bomber who was acquitted of terrorism on a technicality. 46. Kay
    April 11th, 2008 | 7:30 pm

    Hypnotized by Obama

You may be hypnotized by Obama’s speech if you are considering voting for President a person who:

    - Has no diplomatic experience.
    - Has no economic experience.
    - Has no business experience.
    - Has no foreign policy experience.
    - Has no track record of success.
    - He is an unknown who came out of nowhere.
    - He has never had any serious responsibility in economics nor world affairs.
    - Most people cannot name a single accomplishment he made.
    - Wants to be President, but has only spent three years in the senate (half his first term).
    - Did not even vote “yes” or “no” on issues as an Illinois senator, Often just voted “present.”
    - Has never run a town, city, or state.
    - Targets young voters who do not understand the importance and value of experience.
    - Speaks like a preacher.
    - Speaks differently to black than to white audiences.
    - Exudes anger in tone, face, and attitude.
    - Facing off against other senators and even former presidents, seems annoyed, not honored.
    - Makes no specific statements about his plans or policies.
    - Does not speak up about his native Kenya during a genocide there.
    - Has a Muslim background but wants to avoid a debate about the meaning, effect, and implications to the world of a President of the United States with Muslim heritage.
    - Is racing for the Presidency without even having made a contribution as a senator.
    - Has purposely refused to place his hand on his heart during the American national anthem
    - Says U.S. troops in Afghanistan are “just air-raiding villages and killing civilians.”

And you need to wake up from the trance his voice is putting you into.

Let us assume that Obama wins the presidential election. Will Obama be willing to take the oath of office? Please do not forget that Obama has refused to wear an American flag pin on his lapel. Also, while among a group of people pledging allegiance to our flag, he refused to join in with them. He just stood there with his hands by his side and his mouth silent. How would you feel if he refused to raise his right hand to be sworn into office?

And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

You can say just about anything you want with regards to Hillary and I wouldn’t bat an eye. When it comes to Obama my sensitivity training must kick in. All of the sudden I become self righteous, as if someone was picking on my little brother. Obama means nothing to me and I find his run for president lacking in any real substance except for the fact he is a minority. Is that enough reason to elect the man? I mean, the guy can’t even break 40 when he bowls. And that wife of his would make Rosie O’Donnell look like a sex goddess. If it weren’t for the fact that he went to church every sunda….

I guess you’re not bothered by Obama’s elitist middle-America put-down that we’re all bitter, and cling to our guns and religion out of some kind of weakness. First we get his wife saying she’s only recently been proud of America, then we get slapped in the face by his racist, “God-damning America” spiritual advisor Rev. Wright. Starting to now find out he has associations with radicals who set off bombs in federal buildings and now say they didn’t do enough of it. Who is this Obama anyway? Not somebody I want leading this country. He scares the tar out of me.

Obama’s words are hardly a put down. People are bitter. It’s what the Democrats have been counting on. They’re tired of being left in the dust for the past twenty years while decent paying unskilled jobs have left and McJobs were created to fill their place. Bill participated in helping the wealthy get wealthier. He wasn’t a good president. As he said on The Simpsons, he was a pretty lousy president.

Barack’s comment is accurate. It isn’t elitist. This is Hillary’s last desperate attempt to get uneducated and racist voters to rally at her side.

bill jr, you’re sounding more and more like the angry, bitter, downtrodden racist white man the Clinton Machine is trying to cultivate and bring over to the dark side. Don’t fall for it brother! Say hallelujah!

The Obama campaign is not flawless. I gave a tiny donation, and changed from Republican to Democrat in order to support this person, Senator Barack Obama.

It takes so much behind the scenes work, and I have seen so much dedication and support that I admired after I took the time to work at West Chester, PA Headquarters, and watch the people stream in to help.

BTW, I am one of the many who are in their 50′s working beside the young, admirable supporters.
