Two Major Endorsements Missing In Pennylvania Primary

How much do endorsements mean? At this stage of the Clinton-Obama march to the nomination, it depends on whose endorsing and why. Certainly, Bill Richardson’s endorsement of Barack Obama is significant in that Richardson, a respected member of the party. might influence other super delegates. Ed Rendell’s and Michael Nutter’s endorsement of Hillary Clinton have helped her, big time, in Pennsylvania. The blessing of big time politicians can add an aura to a campaign’s momentum.

With that in mind, two major endorsements are missing in the Pa. Primary.

Joe Biden ran for President, and impressed millions of voters with his candor and intelligence. So far, the Delaware Democrat, has not committed. Biden has a lot of impact in Pennsylvania, and HIS blessing could go a long way.

The second silent voice is that of Pa. Senator Bob Casey. History would have it that the Senator’s father, Governor Robert Casey,  was snubbed by the Clinton forces who refused to allow him a few minutes at the podium at the 1992 convention in New York. The family has never forgotten that.

It is unlikely that Casey will endorse Hillary Clinton. So far he has not indicated he will endorse anyone before the Democratic National Convention. Of course, he will support the nominee of the party in the General Election.

Both men could have an impact. Biden could help one or the other in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Scranton could help in the Northeast and the center of ths state. where his following is powerful.

There is no doubt that both campaigns are trying hard to get these two endorsements.

I don’t think the endorsement of either Casey or Biden will have any significant effect in the PA Primary. This presidential campaign has dominated the air waves since January. Anyone waiting to hear who these guys are endorsing is either not paying any attention or looking for someone to help them decide between 2 bad choices.

hello Larry, this race is not over(i quess that was a bad word to use)but it’s not over yet,Hillary also has the Jack Myrtha endorsement no one is against the iraq disaster more then he is.
of course most of the media wants obama to be the nominee and want Hillary drop out,Not going to happen,a big win by Hillary in penna is just going to prove who is the better candidate.
Hillary by far is the better candidate for president compared to obama (the typical john kerry candidate)and mccain(the hand puppet for bush/chaney).

Larry, you refer to Scranton as a person in your second to last paragraph, you probably meant Casey, or maybe you were thinking of Scranton the opponent of Casey’s father? The bearded hippie Scranton, who went to India to find himself and smoke weed during Vietnam. Casey’s father had some political fun with those images when he attacked Scraton in TV ads back in the day. You’ve got to let go of Joe Biden, his endorsement does not matter to anyone but you. Casey’s endorsement could matter a bit more, but he will be low key and not endorse since both Clinton and Obama are abortionist.

Larry, endorsements mean nothing.Kennedy endorsed obama and Hillary won Mass.
the democratic party is finished, they have turned out to be back stabbers and yes traitors. There was a time when one gave their word that it was considered almost a contract, you knew that you could rely on someones word.Well the dems have lost me after 50 years,I will never vote again. This party is no longer the party of FDR,JFK,or RFK and there will never be any unity, the clinton supporters will never vote for obama and the obama people will not vote for Hillary ,therefore, mccain will be president, but at least the republicans stand by their word.God help and bless America.

George thanks for bringing up the Scranton campaign. How low was that? Who didn’t have long hair in the 60’s? Demos and Reps same thing. Both parties crawl in the gutter in order to find ways to win elections, although it seems like the Demos have more of a tendency to eat their own.

Obama’s name likely to come up at Rezko trial

    By Bob Secter

    TRIBUNE REPORTER

    February 26, 2008

The name of Democratic presidential front-runner Barack Obama is likely to brush up against the impending federal corruption trial of Antoin “Tony” Rezko as the result of a judge’s ruling Monday.

U.S. District Court Judge Amy St. Eve, who is presiding over Rezko’s trial, told prosecutors they could introduce evidence to support allegations that Rezko used straw men to make political contributions on his behalf.

Prosecutors have alleged that the money came from fees Rezko illegally siphoned from a state pension board.

In her ruling, St. Eve said the government contends that Rezko directed business associates Joseph Aramanda and Elie Maloof to make contributions to an unnamed political candidate in late 2003 and 2004 because Rezko had already contributed the maximum legal amount.

The only candidate Maloof and Aramanda contributed to during that time frame was Obama, then running for the U.S. Senate in Illinois. Maloof and Aramanda each gave $10,000 to Obama’s campaign.

Maloof of Vernon Hills had supported Obama in an earlier political campaign, and disclosure reports from that effort listed her as a vice president of operations for a Rezko pizzeria management firm. Aramanda is a Glenview businessman whose son received a coveted summer internship in Obama’s Capitol Hill office in 2005.

Until his recent legal troubles, Rezko had been a longtime friend and financial supporter of Obama’s political career. Prosecutors have not alleged any wrongdoing on Obama’s part, but the developments come at an awkward time as Obama faces crucial March 4 primary contests, one day after the scheduled start of the trial.

Obama’s campaign says it has given more than $150,000 in Rezko-linked contributions to charity, including the money from Aramanda and Maloof.

“We had no knowledge of any straw donations and have returned any of the donations about which we have any reasonable question,” Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton said in a statement late Monday.

O.K. So Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico is declaring his vote now as a Superdelegate for Barack Obama. That’s one vote.

And then he talks about how the rest of the country should coalesce around Mr. Obama before the Convention so everybody can go into the Convention “lovey-dovey”.

I think Governor Richardson has been riding out there in the sun too long without a hat.

“Earth to Bill Richardson”….Elections are still underway. Look at the calendar. You will see. There are more votes to be taken and counted. It “ain’t” over. Senator Clinton can pull this off; she is on the way. But I know she would welcome your vote on November 4th against John McCain.

And then you can start planning for your next re-election campaign, if there will be one.

THE RACE: The presidential race for Democrats nationally -
    ____

    THE NUMBERS FROM GALLUP

    Hillary Rodham Clinton, 49 percent

    Barack Obama, 42 percent

OF INTEREST: For the first time in nearly six weeks, Hillary Rodham Clinton leads Barack Obama, 49 percent to 42 percent in daily tracking polling conducted this past Sunday to Tuesday. Her last lead was in the Feb. 7-9 polling, which was coming off the heels of her strong showing on Super Tuesday.

The Gallup Poll is based on telephone interviews conducted March 16-18, and is part of an ongoing tracking poll in which Gallup interviews 1,000 new adults every day. These results are based on interviews with 1,209 Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters nationally and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Comment from this writer…. The above polling numbers have been going back and forth since Hillary Clinton’s big win on Super Tuesday, February 5th. As of today 3/24, Gallup shows Obama ahead by
3 points — all within the margin of error. The point is — this is a very close race, and probably won’t be decided until the August Convention - BUT if we here in PA can really pour out to the polls on April 22nd, and give Hillary Clinton a BIG win — it will really really help. Please do. We can make a difference!

And thank you Governor Ed Rendell on your endorsement, and also that of Congressman Jack Murtha.

    Thank you.

First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton kisses Emina Bicakcic, 8, from Sarajevo who dedicated a poem to her shortly after her arrival at the Tuzla Air Base, Monday March 25, 1996. (PHOTO CREDIT: AP)

    FROM CNN’s Jack Cafferty:

On two different occasions, Senator Hillary Clinton has described a trip she took as first lady to Bosnia in March of 1996.

To hear her tell it, she was lucky to escape with her life, landing in a hail of sniper fire. She said they were forced to cut short the greeting ceremony at the airport and, “run with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base.”

But apparently there was time to stop and visit at the airport with an 8-year-old girl who greeted Mrs. Clinton on the tarmac when she landed and read her a poem.

The military commander on hand to greet Clinton at the time, Major General William Nash, told the Washington Post he was unaware of any sniper threat to Clinton during her 8-hour stay.

Also traveling with the first lady was her daughter Chelsea, the singer Sheryl Crow and the comedian Sinbad, who said the scariest part of the trip was deciding where to eat.

Hillary Clinton claims that she was sent to places that her husband, President Clinton, could not go because they were “too dangerous.”

Back to Sinbad… When commenting on Clinton’s version of events, he said, “What kind of president would say, ‘Hey man, I can’t go because I might get shot… but I’m gonna send my wife and daughter. Oh and take a guitar player and a comedian with you.’”

The Washington Post has awarded Senator Clinton “4 Pinnochios” for her story about Bosnia, which it gives for major “whoppers.”

Now that all this has come to light, Clinton’s campaign is allowing as how she may have “misspoke” about her 1996 trip.

Here’s my question to you: Why would Hillary Clinton not tell the truth about her trip to Bosnia in March of 1996?

Interested to know which ones made it on air?

Marie from Charleston, South Carolina writes:
We know the reason: to bolster her “foreign policy experience” credentials. The sad thing to me is that she has plenty of legitimate credentials to recommend her. This type of resume padding makes people question everything else she touts as experience, which is the crux of her campaign.

    Bob from Richmond, Virginia writes:
Jack, She was just using a common resume-building technique, citing experience if you are in the general vicinity of a job requirement. She also ignored the number one resume fudging rule: don’t lie if there are witnesses!

    Dennis from Spokane, Washington writes:
Misspoke. Sure, I always imagine sniper fire when my plane lands. Good that Chelsea survived the trauma of listening to that poem while her mom was getting those scary flowers.

    Alexa from Lovettsville, Virginia writes:
For the same reason as Obama lied about being in church when Wright was on one of his rants, and when Obama lied about Rezko, and when Obama lied about his campaign advisor meeting with the Canadians, and when Obama lied about how much money Rezko donated to him, etc., etc., etc. It’s called politics.

    Stephen from New Jersey writes:
She wouldn’t lie about that to get elected anymore than she and Bill would look into the cameras of 60 Minutes and lie about extramarital affairs to get him elected president.

    Garnet from Corning, Ohio writes:
Jack, If she was as qualified as she says she is on day one, she wouldn’t have to stretch the truth. After this one, I ask America, what else is she stretching the truth about? My boys are dying and being injured for life for one lie, do we really want another one? One more thing, what about your tax records, Hillary?

    Dan from Texas writes:
Besides dodging sniper fire, Hillary single-handedly saves her fellow travelers by frisking down a suspected suicide bomber dressed as an 8-year-old girl! Too funny! Hillary and Chelsea to the rescue!

    JR,
Hillary (Obama and the Democrats) look at America like it IS a Third World country. Riddled with all sorts of problems, suffering people, bankruptcy, moral decay, life style decline, energy crisis, etc. If it is so bad here, why do we have an illegal risk everything to sneak into the country? Yes we’ve run into a little bit of a down economy but we haven’t dropped to the GNP of Zaire. Yes we have to modify our spending and consuming habits but there is no crisis. Healthcare for all should be a goal but is not a right. So to you and the Dems that talk about the US like we are a third world country, snap out of it. I know you are ready for the end of GWB and to start socialized spending again but let’s see what the US has to say in November. In the meantime, pick a candidate. Flip a coin at your convention.

I wouldn’t support Senator Clinton if the economy is the main issue for me, and jobs and people’ homes are being foreclosed. If I were a Superdelegate, I wouldn’t be at all comfortable with Senator Clinton’s Campaign being managed by Maggie Williams, who had actually served in a subprime lending company that is part of the problem faced by home foreclusres. Then there’s another Clinton ally, Clinton ally, HUD secretary Henry Cisneros ,grossed over 5 million from the subprime lending indudtry. It’s hard to imagine Senator Clinton, not manipulating the naive to believe that she has the best answer for solving the economy. Besides, she talks about job retraining to help the jobless. Is she kidding? What’s the purpose of retraining if there are no available jobs?

Senator Obama attracts the support of America’s Creative Class. If the Creative Class can be inspired by Senator to creative refreshingly new products, then that would be the answer to availabilty of jobs.

We can no longer depend on old manufacturing products and services that foreigners can provide at cheaper costs. We need new industries to take America into the future. And that’s the hope and change Senator Obama will lead America to.
