Final Four In Campaign 08 - The Real Superbowl — And A Memo To Mike Huckabee and Chuck Norris
First, John Edwards. Great campaign for populism, but a bit out of touch with real middle class dreams. His words were inspiring and addressed an issue that hardly gets much attention, hungry Americans. Some of our great philanthropists prefer overseas venues, rather than taking care of the homefront. One thing that Edwards did not address was the kind of greed we’ve seen by supposedly respectful companies in the mortgage meltdown. Of course, he was supported by a huge hedge fund. But all in all, he conducted himself well. He will not vanish. The guy is a future draft pick in Presidential politics.
Rudy Giuliani. Was it bad management, or a bad candidate? It is hard to say, but the Florida Primary decision didn’t fool me. A candidate who wants it goes for it. Something seemed to be missing from the usually energetic and dynamic former New York mayor. Perhaps, he didn’t want it that bad, or he feared more scrutiny. He’s a pretty candid man so we’ll find out soon. And certainly, he can be a big help to the eventual Republican nominee. He will not help Romney, under any circumstances, in the event Romney prevails.
Looking at the Final Four: Obama and Clinton will probably have a 60 to 40 split on Delegates on Super Tuesday, 60 for Clinton, 40 to Obama. That still will leave the race undecided and suddenly the tides of February and March will come into play.
McCain will move into a position to capture it all next Tuesday, barring some dramatic development. California, New Jersey and other big states will have millions of independents who can vote in either primary. This is good news for McCain, Clinton and Obama. Romney needs hard core conservatives. The former moderate is now viewed as “all-in” conservative.
Final note. Memo to Mike Huckabee:
Tell Chuck Norris to stay out of politics. He has rights, but his branding of John McCain as “too old” to be President actually was disrespectful and backfired on YOUR campaign. I mean, Reverend Huckabee, doesn’t God treat us all, young and old, as equals?

Hello Larry,I agree with you Rudy was a big letdown,he wasn’t ‘in it to win it’,hucklebee should step out and take chuck norris with him,and let Romney and Mccain battle it out.
I think Hillary will take about 70% of the delegates on super tuesday, obama picked up some good endorsements this week, i think Hillary will be picking up some big endorsements this weekend, and she’s ‘in it to win it’.
well super tuesday will be exciting and is time to put up or shut up.
thanks Larry, good luck and God bless
Rudy “wasn’t into it” because he knows the truth: he is a lousy choice for President. He is lacking in any moral compass and was grossly unqualified for the position.
Now get Tom Ridge on the VP ticket and call it a day.
“”The guy is a future draft pick in Presidential politics.”"
No way, after supporting him for 4 years and wasting my caucus vote on him and his promises from day 1 to go all the way to the Convention, there is no way I hop on the bus again.
I’m afraid I have to agree with Norris about McCain’s age, even though I doubt I agree with him about anything else. I watched John several times at the group meetings he held during the caucuses, his Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran gaff was not his only one. I could run against him only by showing clips of his bad responses and mistakes. He’s not the John of the past and will only get worse. Not to mention whether the country is ready for his rich, snooty, ex-drug addict and thief wife as First Lady.
Just checking to see if all the Caroline Kennedy fans had compiled their list of what she has accomplished in life yet, that made her endorsement so significant and all. For extra credit, you can all work on the Chuck Norris list also.
Ok, I’ll check back next week.
50-50 or better for Obama, oh ye’ of little faith. 1 million bucks a day is no joke. And Borat-Gate will be a juicy topic of discussion at the debate, I’m sure…nice!
Jim
Check it out for yourself you ignoramus…What greater accomplishment can anyone have but to be a good person, a good mother and a good wife….You would probably question the accomplishments of Blessed Mother Mary, Mother of Jesus.

Because she has chosen wisely to remain out of the limelight does not mean she has not accomplished anything. Have you ever written a book, let alone two? Have you ever managed a major fund raising effort for the schools of Philadelphia?? Have you ever managed or contributed to several charitable organizations?? To be fair, Caroline is wealthy and certainly can afford to give more of her money but in addition to the money she gives her time.
So as my favorite Aunt Mary Jane used to say: “Take this and put in your pipe and smoke it”.
Back to the fray - I agree that Super Tuesday will be the death knell for Romney after watching McCain kick his butt in the debate last night.
I agree that John Edwards will still be heard from…possibly a VP candidate on either a Clinton or Obama ticket. Don’t be surprised with someone like Evan Bayh of Indiana got the VP nod…
Huckabuck is bucking for the VP slot with McCain. If McCain wants a Southerner, he would be better off going with Lindsey Graham.
I think Rudy thought all he had to do was keep repeating 9/11 and that would put him in the WH. That and the stupid: “Focus on Florida” strategy doomed him. In addition he had more ghosts in his closet than a haunted house!
Paul Volker, the former Fed chief who successfully defeated inflation in the 1980s through the use of highly restrictive monetary policy, has ENDORSED Barrack Obama! This gives Obama some street cred on the Street!
With the Kennedy endorsement of Obama, the press has started referring to a future Obama administration as Bamalot.
I really feel like jumping on the Obama bandwagon, seems like it would be happy and fun place to be for a change, you know, see what it was like to be optimistic again. I wanted to cut my wrist after litening to MCcain and Romney argue last night, and I’m a fan of both.
The American press is remiss in not showing us the extended bellies of those going without food in America. In reality if you take a camera into the poorest neighborhoods in America what you will find is obesity and a tendency towards alcoholism and drug usage. John Edwards completely missed the mark with his campaign. There is a social divide in this country but starving to death is not an issue. The gap between the haves and have nots is.
Good asessment Larry, but in the California primary, independents can vote in the Democratic primary, but not in the GOP one. Won’t make much difference for McCain as he is on a roll.
Just an update…in an interview I recently saw Chuck Norris clearly state that he made a mistake in vocalizing his opinion and already called McCain to apologize…he realized his error and the need to just talk the facts of a candidate’s record. We’ve all spoken too quickly before–we’re just fortunate that the media doesn’t listen to us. :)
