Carolina Clinton – Rendell’s Timing – And Rudy’s Jersey Problem
First, what the heck is going on in South Carolina? Bill Clinton, Mr. Smooth himself , is losing his temper on the campaign trail. Of course, he is not running for President, but what’s he doing. Every time he attacks Obama, he actually helps the Illinois Senator. Clinton is so savvy. I don’t get it. Are he and Tough Tom Coughlin taking the same vitamins? Also, recommendation to President Clinton: don’t lecture reporters. Generally we are a thin-skinned bunch and don’t like it. The truth is, WE CAN DISH IT OUT, BUT HONESTLY, WE CAN’T TAKE IT! So leave the reporting to the traveling press corps, and its “herd mentality” about this election.
I’ve been fascinated by the South Carolina race. It’s all about personal attacks, except for John Edwards who knows that soon he will have a date with destiny, destiny being cast as an ex-candidate. I must admit, though, that in this current Hillary-Obama struggle, Edwards looks very good . But that won’t last.
Back in Philadelphia, Ed Rendell understands the calendar. His endorsement of Hillary Clinton was perfectly timed 12 days before Super Tuesday. But Rendell is so smart. If Super Tuesday should private a stalemate and the March primaries fail to settle it, guess what?
The only primary in April is the Pennsylvania primary April 22. Pennsylvania could be the clincher.
In New Jersey, a new poll shows John McCain edging Mayor Rudy by a few points. If Rudy should be embarrassed by McCain in his neighboring state, it could be the beginning of the end of the Rudy run. My suggestion to the Mayor- come home. Forget about being Mayor of the Florida condominiums, and protect the home turf.
Final note for today: Fred Thompson went out with a whimper. I was surprised that he didn’t do a little better. I mean, the man was an actor. And he didn’t change his view on issues every day. And he stayed on message. Honesty? In this Republican race, it fails every time.

Larry,
Fred got to the dance late, and cast in a band of characters with as much name recognition as his own from acting. His advantage was only marginal, at best, and Huckabee, my odds on for the least known of the bunch, proved overcoming name recognition to be no issue at all.
As for Bill and Hillary, I responded to this issue before, although I honestly do not remember if it was your blog or another one. He keeps proving, now detrimentally so, that it is a two for one deal. I heard commentary in the last few days that she may face real issues picking a running mate. The thinking that nobody qualified enough to give her an edge over McCain will want to be a third wheel to the Clintons. She really ought to name him (Bill) the VP now. Let the shock wear off, the dust settle and then milk it for all its worth. I still think Obama gets the nod, but if Bill is going to run with her, Hilary should make it formal. This informal running “mate” stuff is becoming the 600 lb gorilla in the room.
hello Larry, your right Bill should back off,Hillary can defeat O’bama on her own,as you can see at the s.c. debate O’bama is starting to unravel,Hillary is putting a lot of pressure on O’bama he talks a lot but says little,he has to give some answers to his past ‘present’ votes in the senate.
the press/media are very easy on O’bama, and want him to win ,everyone knows that, but Hillary is the better candidate and the republicants know that.
Hillary can use Bill’s savvy in november to beat Romney.
thanks Larry.
Hillary and Bill are playing a cynical game of good cop/bad cop. It’s disgusting to see the lengths of disingenuity to which they will go in order to smear their “enemies.” Why can’t they run on the merits? At a time when America seems to be fraying, it’s clear we need someone who can unite the people and rally them, not an arrogant, dysfunctional couple who will lie and engage in shrewdly calculated petty attacks to seize the reins of power.
Leo (does LEO mean what I think?), you are absolutley right. 3$Bill is getting Obama to respond to his provocative attacks on him and leaving Hillary on the sideline, so that when the voters get disgusted with the childish 3$Bill/Obama squabble, they will run right into the waiting arms of Mom (Hillary)!
i agree with bloom that’s exactly what bush, chaney and rove did the last eight years.
Bill clinton can’t be part of Hillarys cabinet. President Johnson changed that after JFK’s murder, since Bobby Kennedy was JFK’s attorney general.
Hillary can take care of herself but Bill is an asset.People flock to see him, touch him, shake his hand it’s quite a sight to see and hear.
If he didn’t defend Hillary, the press/media would have something to say about that too,so he’s dammed if he does and dammed if he doesn’t.The press/media hates the clinton’s and always have. They have never been friendly to them and it’s true the press/media have already elected obma,We the people don’t mean a thing.
JR
….and do we need a continuation of the last eight years of political mud wrestling?
joe
no we do not need political mud wrestling,
but we do need a leader that can end the nightmare of the last eight years and that is where Hillary comes in,she will bring leadership and dignity back to the white house and country.
Jack Russell what are you smoking? Hillary a leader please! Hillary a lier sounds more like it. Look folks I’m tried of the back and forth but you can’t blame Obama for taking up for himself. Bill needs to sit down and shut up!
Hillary is a joke-but we are the stupid ones. Remember the days when she wanted to be know as Hillary Rodham? She is so contrived. Bill will have a HUGE impact on her administration. Why didn’t he just run for a third term-it is non consecutive, therefore consitutional. That would be too honest. We don’t need 4-8 more years of the clintons. We need a new generation of leadership. The boomers have had thier shot, and look at what we have had for the last 16 years.
Bill Clinton is ineligible to run again because the Constitution limits Presidents to two terms PERIOD. The only way one could serve longer than eight years is if one becomes President and serves no more than two years of another President’s term.
For example, had President Ford won in 1976 or made a comeback in 1980, he could have served only one term, because he served more than two years of President Nixon’s second term.
The non-consecutive thing applies in several states but not to the Presidency.
JR, take a look at the campaign. There is no dignity to the Clinton method. It’s mud wrestling.
Jim, not to mention the possibility that Bill will try to use Hillary as a humidor in the Oval Office if she’s elected. What a doofus.
Hey Guys,
Gotta ease up on JR, he’s just a misinformed lapdog of HillBillary, also seems to have a short memory, I’ve been trying for a while to get him to explain her “35 years” of experience. And it’s really amusing when he says she will restore honor and credibility to the Whitehouse… I don’t know how everyone else feels, but I was almost as embarassed being an American during the Clinton years, as I was when another “DEMOCRAP” by the name of Carter was President and let American citizens remain in captivity for 444 days. It took a “REPUBLICAN” to bring them home.
Tony, I think JR is smoking that cigar 3$Bill and Monica was using. This woman is joke, let alone a prospective great leader….
And, who cares who “Fat Eddie” endorses, this is the moron who is just trying to tax us to death….
hey mike,
i quess you are really embarassed of the last eight years under the bush/chaney/rove regime.
and mike, atleast $Bill’s not chasing boys down in airport bathrooms or at the church’s pulpit! 0f course that’s alright with you right mike.
it sounds like the rightwing do-gooders are a little nervous,Hillary’s campaign is very impressive.
I don’t know how old Jerry is but I tend to agree with him. We should not vote for another baby boomer president. The whole baby boomer generation took a free ride on the gravy train and have landed us in the middle of nowhere.
I think Bill Clinton can be a great asset to Hillary on the campaign trail if he would just tone down some of his attacks against Obama. I listened to Obama’s comments about Reagan/Republican party came away with the impression that he had given praise to Reagan/Republican party for generating new ideas. Maybe I missed something but if he thought the ideas were bad, he should have been more clear and said so. I certainly, if I were in the Clinton’s shoes would have attacked him on those statements.
I do agree that we need less mud-slinging and more of: “what solutions am I going to provide to solve the key issues facing the U.S.”. Personally, I think there are way too many debates that I believe opens the door to the type of personal attacks we saw in the last Democratic debate. They need to do something to stay awake!!!
I think Clinton, Obama or even Edwards would be a much better President and Leader than any of the Republican candidates – all I see in any of them is 4 more years of Bush but with a different last name. The best of the R-bunch is McCain but his age scares me.
Anyway, thanks gents for keeping a Philly boy now living in SoCal entertained with your lively opinions. Hell, now I’m jonesing for a Geno’s Cheesesteak.
Wow. A lively group today. Leave to Bill Clinton to bring out the emotions.
