Who Is Karl Rove Kidding? The Media Manipulator, or “Captain Fear” Is Back

If Karl Rove is suddenly on the attack against Barack Obama, you’ve got to know that the Republicans must be scared. Rove, as you may know called Obama “lazy” and a man who exaggerates things. He also took a swipe at Obama’s Senate record.

This is fascinating.

The greatest spinner in the jaded history of White House spinners is weaving a new tale of reverse spin-doctoring. A month ago, he lectured his party on how to beat Hillary Clinton. Now, Bush’s former top adviser and trouble-maker-in chief, has reversed fields, complimenting Clinton on showing her human side and broadsiding Obama. Pretty clear isn’t it. He wants Hillary to win the nomination.

Well, here’s some advice to Captain Fear: Both of them might be a shoo-in.

I admire Rove for his strategic instincts, but to be very honest, the man who dramatically helped get the President elected, and than, dramatically helped him to secure some of the worst approval ratings in American history, will not be a factor this year. But he is playing an interesting game.

I met Karl Rove once, at the Republican Convention in Philadelphia in 2000. His smile is captivating. He is a charming man who is a wizard at mind and fear manipulation.

I mean, let’s face it. To millions of Americans, a slash at Obama from Karl Rove is tantamount to motivating people to go out and vote for him!

Karl Rove has not been associated with any of the Republican candidates so far. One thing is certain. If John McCain wins the nomination, Rove will not be part of the inner circle. He was in charge of the smear campaign that defeated McCain in South Carolina, and eventually led to the Bush nomination for President

To refresh your memory: Rove was also the coordinator of “Mission Accomplished” and the now debunked theory that the Iraq war was a war framed because of 9/11 even as we let Osama Bin Laden escape into a mountain hideout somewhere.

I do not have a favorite for President. But. if I did, I would hope that Karl Rove would attack him or her vigorously. It’s enough to make a candidate win.

Larry, you could barely read the news from a teleprompter. Now why don’t you just waddle away and leave the news and the big stories to people who can handle them. Who ever told you that you were anything other than a news reader? Just because you read the news doesn’t mean you understood it. Now back to the kids’ room for you, shoo shoo.

Another insightful response….and what would be it’s relevance to Karl Rove?

I can never get the straight scoop on this from liberals: Is Karl Rove the master manipulator who somehow got the idiot Bush elected, or is he the bumbling idiot who is responsible for Bush’s low approval ratings and whom you’d want working for your opponent? Evil genius, or evil idiot? I can never get it right.

The basic reality is this – liberal Democrats HATE Karl Rove.

(And I thought HATE was not a liberal value…)

They HATE him because he beat the pants off them in every campaign he ran. They can’t beat him, so they have to demonize him. It’s so old hat… Rove is not running any campaign, so you guys need to work on some new material.

I don’t know why you republicans still like Karl Rove? He is responsible for putting Bush in the White House and for Bush’s horrible, divisive policies. While Rove did succeed in making W president. He also succeeded in dividing the Republican party and pushing independents and moderate Republicans to vote Democratic. For that, I thank him. I hope that the Republican party will learn the lesson that the politics of hate and fear can only go so far until the people catch on. I, for one, am not sorry to see Karl Rove go and I hope we never have to see the likes of him again. He is a hate-mongering, divisive, liar and the people of this country deserve better. I want the politics of hope, not fear.

Good comments, except for Mike, if you think that I was just a prompter reader, you might want to start reading, or maybe do your homework, which I assume you didn’t do.

You really didn’t get the point.

    But that’s ok.

This is a free country, and free speech is something Mr. Rove could never stand.

Larry, you are ranting. Rove is the Repbulican James Carville. Carville is working for the Clintons and you could make the same comments against him.

Read Rove’s OpEd in yesterday’s WSJ Well worth it.

Poor mike, after years of being fed everything that other kids were too afraid to tryout his addled mind has circled around blogs where he can harmlessly exercise his freedom of expression. Let’s keep mikey right here with his ad hominem attacks, that will keep him too busy to perform his usual republican voter suppression duties. It’s not like Karl Rove needs to be commented on, its just wonderful to see what he has to say now that he has about as much power as mike to affect the course of history.

Karl Rove could care less about this country, all he cares about is getting Reps elected and keeping power at any cost, lies, fear mongering, changing the facts of history. His policies lead to the Dems taking the senate and congress. He is no better then a con man with an agenda. I don’t think he even knows what the words integrity and honesty mean (probably would make a good politician too).
I guess if you like liars and scrum bags you would look up to him, if you like the country, you don’t want people like him involved in policy. If the Dems win you can thank Bush and Rove, the heroes to the unable to think for themselves crowd

I think a good resource for this topic might be Sen. McCain ( you know, that well known liberal Democrat, running for president) After having been the victim of the Rove spin machine, I’m sure he can offer some insight as to why only the left wing liberals don’t like Rove

hello- larry,’mission accomplished’ said it all.
good point about mike,he should do his homework.
rove, bush and chaney are hate mongerors and chickenhawks, and have put the republicants party in the gutter.
also bush and rove seem to have a very strange relationship and maybe one day someone will tell us how close they really are!

Larry , as usual you’ve got it all wrong. Inflaming your readers opinions’ by quoting that Rove called Obama “lazy” is an example of playing the race card without any substantiation. Rove merely meant that Obama was loose and lax in his articulation of his political arguments. It was Rove’s opinion that Obama should tighten up his rhetoric.

The real Captain Fear is Bill Clinton.
he’s the one who has denigrated and demeaned the candidacy of Obama. Calling his campaign in essence a “fairy tale” and referring to him as a “kid”. Larry, while Karl Rove sits idly by as a non factor, you waste time attacking him. What you should be attacking is the audacity of the Clintons to fear monger
and get away with it. Listen to Black journalists. Their resentment for Bill and Hillary is resounding. It seems like our “first” black president wasn’t very black at all. He wasn’t called “Slick Willey” for nothing.

It’s really amusing that Jim would call McCain a iberal Democrat. Do you actually read anything or just get all your “facts” from Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity? McCain is a conservative in every sense of the word. The only thing he’s even semi-liberal on is his belief in global warming. He’s one of the few repubs who actually believe in science. Oh, that’s right. He also thinks it’s a bit unreasonable to round up 12 million people and throw them out of the country. I guess you’d rather have your party contine to elect science-rejecting, bible thumping, hypocritical morons. As you can see from Bush’s record, that hasn’t worked out too well for the country. Maybe you repubs can try to educate yourselves once in a while and stop being sheep. We need to get out of the hole Bush has dug for us and Guiliani, Huckabee, and Romney will just dig deeper holes. Maybe this time we should actually elect someone with a brain. The President should be “the smartest guy in the room” not somebody who you’d like to have a beer with. Why not start electing people on their brains and ability instead of things that don’t matter?

Another thing, if the media has such a liberal bias, then why does Hillary Clinton get crucified by the media. I have NEVER seen anyone treated by the media as badly as they treat her. She’s actually not my first choice for Pres but I was so offended by her harsh treatment by the media that I was glad she won the New Hampshire Primary.

Also, James Carville is NOT on Hillary’s campaign and is not the equivalent of Karl Rove. He may be tough but he doesn’t destroy people with lies like Rove does. Rove has a history of starting “whisper campaigns.” In South Carolina in 2000, Rove started a rumor that McCain fathered an illegitimate black child. Gee..I wonder why McCain couldn’t win in the racist South? Also, in every campaign Rove has ever been involved in (all the way back to Bush’s campaign for Gov in Texas) there is a history of this. Rove started a whisper campaign against Bush’s opponent in the Texas Gov. race and said that she was a lesbian. He’s done this over and over and has brought politics to the lowest level any of us has seen. Campaigns should be about issues but Rove makes them about personal attacks and lies. Don’t you want this to stop? Don’t you want a higher standard for your children? I want this world to be a better place and it will be if people like Rove stay out of politics. Karl Rove’s game is to exhaust as much money from Clinton’s and Obama’s war chest as possible. Tring to exploit small differences of opinions in voters minds.

That is it, nothing more than that.

Jackie you should spent less time reading novelty toilet paper and more time understanding the nature of politics. Everyone involved uses everything available in order to get elected. Your hatred of Rove and the Republicans is only an indication that you don’t appreciate how nasty the Democrats can be. Anyone who thinks that the Democrats are any less conniving and calculating is living a “fairy tale” existence. So “kid” take it from me find another outlet for your venomous rants.

It is a fact that Rove is a total sleeze…but he did get Bush “elected” twice (Actually, its also a fact that the last two pesidential elections were stolen /fixed / rigged..with a third on its way).
Bush / Cheney can’t and won’t give up power so easily…don’t be surprised of a “incident / crisis” before the election where they will claim emergency rule and delay the election.

    January 11th, 2008 | 1:59 pm

My My…where to go with this.
Jackie, my point was sarcastic. McCain is NOT a lib/Dem. Everyone knows he is a fairly conservative Repub. My post was in response to those who characterized Rove opponents as such. McCain was the victim of Rove when he ran against George Bush. Rove is a cut throat operator ( like Carville).
AS to getting my facts from Rush or Hannity: if you had any clue at all about me….. – you need to get a grip!

Given the unparalleled amount of lies and deceit manufactured by Karl Rove and company, historians will undoubtedly have a field day dissecting the last seven (soon to be eight) years of misery. If James Carville’s often goofy comments and actions during the Clinton Presidency come anywhere close to the manipulations of Rove, please show the evidence or go sit in the corner.

    January 11th, 2008 | 4:43 pm

I am a simple pawn in the great game of politics. If the skeptics are right Mr. Rove is actually using reverse psychology by criticizing Obama. Mr. Rove wants Obama to pick up his attacks on Hillary so they can both be brought down by mutual destruction.
Rove’s main objective however is to keep Hillary off the November ballot. Apparently Rove thinks Obama will be easier to beat. The Republicans will save the race card for the Nov. election and turn Obama into the next Al Sharpton. If all of this is true I resign the game. I quit. I’ve had it. Someone tell me that Mr. Rove is not that smart or maniacal.

Larry says of Rove, “He wants Hillary to win the nomination” Larry also says a slash at Obama by Rove is tantamount to telling millions to vote for Obama.
Larry as usual you sit on the fence and are of no help at all. I really loved the definitive quote that they “both may be shoo-ins.” Larry is that your definition of going out on a limb.

They began this campaign by sending their attack mongrel Coulter out after Edwards when he was ahead to make sure Hillary got into the lead. Now they are attacking Obam to make sure Hillary gets out front again. They know how to run against her, they have been doing it for years, lots of scandals to open up again, especially those that relate directly to her and not to Bill. Their main hope next Novenber is to rally the troops one more time against Hillary, notice how prior to the New Hampshire primary, the Repub candidates once again started on the classic old shiboliths like “HillaryCare”, trying to establish that they are know how to run against her.

Larry I guess you did little research on The Trinity United Church of Christ of Chicago. How could any politician be associated with a church that:
Of the 12 values on their website –>

    3) A congregation actively seeking RECONCILIATION.
    (4) A congregation with a non-negotiable COMMITMENT TO AFRICA.

    (8) Disavowal of the Pursuit of “Middleclassness”

    (10) A congregation working towards ECONOMIC PARITY.

    Can you say socialism ?

    Exactly what is/are:

    Black Family
    Black Work Ethic
    Black Value System?
I thought there was either a positive or a negative version of these entities, not a racial division to be parsed out.

How does one do RECONCILIATION and with whom when it’s exclusively about all things Black?

What exactly entails the non-negotiable COMMITMENT TO AFRICA? Where exactly does America fit in with your system?

What exactly does LIBERATION mean? Is this something in the mother land? Where does America fit in if it is not your mother land?

The segregationist, bigoted, inflammatory, separatist, hateful, angry, myopic message of the “Christian Church” is akin to the failed Liberian emmigration policy floated during Abraham Lincoln’s days. It is akin to the anarchistic Black National messages of the 1960′s and 1970′s.

Remember this the next time a member of the press excoriates Republican candidate Mitt Romney for the Mormon Church’s less than stellar past with respect to race. Obama’s house of worship’s racial deficiencies exist in the here and now, and remain heretofore unexamined

Well, Larry, looks like you’ve been “taken” by Rove’s “false flag” strategy. Atually, Rove would love to have Obama as the Demo Prez candidate. Once all the facts about Obama are made public, Obama would lose to Mickey Mouse!

If anyone of you is a reader then you have to appreciate the sadness in “Shrub”, the Molly Ivans book on GW Bush, PRIOR to his 2000 election. Molly was known for her wonderful sarcastic wit, which could not be expressed sufficiently in “Shrub” because what she shared was true.

Anyone who had an inquisitive mind could NOT have voted for him or his platform, because they would have recognized him as a “wolf in sheep’s clothing.”

I’m just sorry the average intelligence in the US is estimated at 8th grade reading level. And when is the last time an 8th grader read a book at will?
