Free Speech Does Not Give You The Right to Make Ethnic Slurs On This Web Site
Cut out the four letter words and the attacks on ethic groups. If you want to write these words, and denigrate your identity with words that attack anyone’s ethnic pride, find another website, because I’ve had it with this bias and profanity.
Having said that, I am absolutely thrilled with the tension and edge of the recent postings, especially your responses on the Faulkner tragedy and the family’s quest for the truth, and yesterday’s column on how the parking enforcers are going to kill business in Center City.
Keep the comments flowing, but kill the racist stuff. Strike a line through it. Leave that stuff in the dark recesses of your mind. You know who I’m talking to.
NOW, some news.
The latest CBS Survey from KYW Newsradio shows a near miracle. Mike Huckabee is now at 21 percent nationwide, with Rudy Guiliani at 22. Huckabee is UP from 7 percent. Mitt Romney moves up to 16. Republicans are confused, changing, looking for something. Fred Thompson is in single digits, and so is the respected John McCain.
On the Dems side: Clinton still ahead with 44, Obama at 27. Clinton’s lead is at 17, down from 28 points in October. On the Oprah factor: do you think people will follow her lead in South Carolina and Iowa? I wonder if her glow will rub off on Obama. It’s not like she’s recommending books.
For red state followers, this poll has bad news. The President’s approval rating is at 28 percent, and 59 percent of respondents say the war is going badly.
As we switch to deep blue (For Democrats), the survey shows that….
GET THIS!– Congress’s approval rating is 21 percent. The DEMS should think about new leadership in 2009. With a President having so much trouble, and the DEMS looking even worse, it appears that many of you are ready for a change. Any ideas??
Some insider reports from Washington.
Look for the U.S. Attorney General to seek his own special prosecutor in the investigation of missing CIA interrogation tapes.
Watch for a surprise move by Senate Democrats to revive legislation for troop pullbacks from Iraq in time for the November elections.
FINALLY, Congress may launch a new investigation into the five thousand people sickened by 9/11 fumes in New York. Few have received help – many are unemployed.
Goodbye for now. And keep it clean.

Larry, you’re right the republicans are in big trouble and dazed and confused and desperate,i hope Huckleberry is their man with the scandel he is in, helping a rapist to get out of jail to only commit murder and rape again.
i think the republican voters are very angry and bitter (i am sure you will see it today)because they know and will not admit that the last seven years are a disater, and their time of power is running out.
and as far as george bush’s rating of 28 percent, i think you are a about 28 points to high.
the oprah factor is slim to none to the democratic race,Hillary
seems to be unbeatable, can she be any worse then the last seven years?
the right wingers will not even mention his (bush)name when they are begging for campaign funds or debating, that says volumes.
Larry Good Luck and God Bless
Larry, come on give us something to work with. If we wanted the news we’d turn on KYW. Instead of WWJD I want to know WWLD(I assume you get the reference). It’s YOUR opinions that really make this thing happen. “you da man” “viva la loca la Larry” “hurray fo Larrywood” Hey I’m dying out here….. (slight reference to the movie Beetlejuice. Now that was a good movie). You know maybe I’m not upset at you maybe I’m upset at that kid (I hope he was a kid) that posted those ugly racial remarks yesterday. No…. I think I’m afraid that Jack “the mutt”
Russel might be right.
No matter if you like it or not, free speech is free speech Larry. The Daniel Faulkner murder is one of the most racially charged issues worldwide. People are people and it brings out a primal response no matter what anyone wants to comment on how people should respond.
Yes, I prefer a place to post where I can have the freedom of not reading racist comments. Too many sites let that kind of stuff slide. Good job Larry.
LK
I think your verb choice is a bit strong.
You write “are going to kill business in Center City”
I think thats a bit much.
How about “hurt”?
How about “put a dent into”?
I dont think these joints are going out of business because of quarters in meters.
And remember, that not everyone drives.
Good thing I have my favorite garage where I am taken care of, for those times when I do venture into the city.
Regards to Ringo…
Unfortunately, the news media only promotes and reports on causalities and violence and NOT the good things that are happening in Iraq. Therefore, how can anyone’s view be anything but negative?
As far at the upcoming primaries are concerned I wish one candidate, in either party, would lead by example versus empty words and promises.
An idea with our senators and representatives would be to promote and advocate areas of similarities, not differences. Stop the hate George Bush speech. What does that solve? All too often these representatives are positioning themselves for re-election versus getting things done for the American People. Divided we fall.
JR is just a McGreevey dem (JR’s idol), who forgets what his own party does, but seems to be stuck on cross-dressing. It’s always us versus them with him, he needs to get a grip, there is corruption in both parties, and he can’t say without a smirk on his face that his precious CLINTONS are not corrupt.
Oprah’s appearance here last weekend clearly drew a lot of people to also hear Obama that may not have otherwise come to see him. It also was a perk to his long time volunteers who got early tickets to hand out and enrolled lots of new volunteers. At this point being able to enthuse your base and hopefully add to it, is the reason the campaigns are bringing in new faces, be it Oprah, Bill, Chelsea Clinton, Hillary’s Mom, Paul Simon, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Kevin Bacon or Tim Robbins. At this point in the campaign, we’ve all seen the candidates themselves multiple times, so a change is needed to keep the momentum going in the home stretch.
P.S. I wonder about that Congressional rating, the Congress is not totally demo controlled. Could that 28% actually be 0% for the do nothing Repug 49% membership and 60% for the 51% Demo weak leadership, averaging to a lowly 28%? They never say why people give congress that low a rating. Not that the Demo leadership hasn’t been whimpy enough to deserve the 28%.
When the Democrats get in,things will stop going downhill in this country.Whats that you say?The Democrats were in for 8 years and everybody was sick of them, and things went downhill?
Maybe downhill is our designated direction.
Democrats and Republicans”not a dimes worth of difference between the two”.
Anybody remember who said that?
Who gives a crap what celebrities think? Should we listen when Sean Penn goes to visit Hugo Chavez? No he is just another Hollywood idiot who thinks he knows more than anyone else and would like to push his views on anyone else, anyone who votes for a candidate just because of the celebrity that endorses them, should get his/her head examined and see if they actually have a brain!!! These people are so far out of touch with mainstream American, asi is most of the candidates, you know the ones, dems or repubs who don’t know what middle class actually earns, but all claim they know what is best for us…… It’s time for America to wake up and quit voting the same morally bankrupt, not a clue what is going on candidates, because we are stuck in a two-party situation which gives us no choice except bad or worse!
Larry, why do you omit the Name of Ron Paul when discussing Republican Presidential Candidates? The News media is continually ignoring his impressive gains. He leads all GOP candidates in fundraising and recently won a Virgina straw poll. After 5,000 people gathered for his November rally in Philly – why don’t you include his name with the other candidates?? Is this accidental or deliberate?
Mike, in Philadelphia they only have one political party. This is part of the slippery slope that we are on. Most of us are too busy putting food on the table to realize what is happening. In Phila’s elections you know who is going to win before they even HAVE an election.(you all know that already) Nationally they know what states are going for what candidate.(blue state red state you know ask Larry) There might be only two or three states that the outcome of the election remains in question. The whole presidential election comes down to very few votes. They already know how your voting. So you get no attention. The whole presidential election boils down to (drum roll please)….ta da! the Gay vote. Huckabee had better get a set of knee pads and Hillary a girlfriend might not be a bad idea.
Robert: Ron Paul is a master fund raiser and a bad vote-getter.
Save this note in the event he is elected President!
Larry
You mention Ron Paul, all that does is dredge up memories of H Ross Perot. The only reason that Clinton got into the White House in the first place was because of Perot. I might be wrong but Bill may have been the first president elected that didn’t receive more than half the vote. The rest is history.
Anon, There are several presidents who got in with less than half the vote. (Bush is the recent one) and most presidents in the last 40+ years have been elected with less than half of the registered voters. Reagan’s landslide was less than half of the possible vote.People stay away- a 55% turnout seems to be a moral victory. It’s a national disgrace.
And BTW… This post includes a ref to the low approval of Congress – something Mike said we never see in the MSM.
you dredge up ross perot,i quess you forgot about ralph nader now that is the only reason (and the supreme court)why bush is in power, now that is history that should never be repeated.
Good Day Larry
Jim , thanks for the info. It still doesn’t change the fact that Perot got Clinton elected. I am not so sure we want more than 50% of the registered voters taking part in the elections anyway. It is a shame however that the other 50% of potential voters don’t give a darn.
‘VOTE OR DIE’ Just goes to show you not all advertising hits its mark.
Politics get more odd all the time. John Kerry came out of nowhere in Iowa four years ago, now here comes Mike Huckabee doing it on an even grander scale in 2007. It’ll be interesting to see whether Huckabee’s organization can grow nationally at the same pace. I sense that the current Huckabee scenario is what John Edwards was hoping for on the Democratic side, but has yet to see materialize (and probably won’t).
As for Congress, I agree with you Larry – the Democrats had such an opportunity to make a difference there. The congressional leadership for the Dems is certainly lacking, especially if their poll numbers are as dismal as Bush’s.
So what are the odds that we see a similar situation on the Democratic presidential candidate side? Could Bill Richardson suddenly catch on with voters? I’m not sold on the notion Clinton has this thing locked up, and people apparently are taking a closer look at “second tier” candidates.
The Democrat Congress’ approval ratings are lower than Bush’s – so Larry says they will trot out “bring home the troops” legislation before the Nov. elections.
1) Yeah, that’s worked great so far… how many times have they tried and failed? Are they still saying the “surge” won’t work and calling General Petreaus names?
2) I’m sure Larry and the rest of the Democrat-Media Complex won’t call that stunt “playing politics with the war”. If they feel so strongly about it, why wait until the election? Do it now (yet again). But they are spineless liberals… can’t forget that.
In 1992, George Bush, the First, did not get re-elected for 2 related reasons:
1 & 2: President Bush I’s famous quote: “Read my lips: ‘NO NEW TAXES!’” Well, what happened after that was that he reneged on that promise which caused many Reps to get real pi77ed off at him, which led to Ross Perot running, and of course 3$Bill getting elected with only 38% of the vote.
larry, channel 6 is the gold standard for local news in this city and country, jim Gardner is the best, and dave roberts at the weather brings quality and some humor to the news, also the theme music at the beginning is excellent.
the other channels 3 and 10 remind of a bunch of used car salesman with bozo the clown doing the weather.
and as far as the comment by Flip Flop Mike i can care less what you do behind closed doors!
JR, you sound like you watch the news the same way that a preteen watches the saturday matinee at the movies. I suppose Jim Gardner is the hero in this episode. Do you know Jim is only four foot something. Put him up against the Alien or the Predator and he wouldn’t stand a chance. Dave Roberts is probably your
Cary Grant. Good looking with a razor sharp wit. What sophisticated humor. Bravo! By the way JR channel 6 just came out with a new CD its called “Best Ever Theme Music To a News Show”
thank you ed for your evaluation, will you please evaluate flip flop mike with your expert opinion.(it is on the next page of january tv)please due the profile a/s/a/p.
