“Ally” In Pakistan?- Why Does Bush Let Musharraff Off the Hook?
What a disgrace. Embattled Pakistani dictator Musharraff will not allow American forces to bomb Bin Laden’s hideouts in Pakistan. What ever happened to the President’s message: “You are either with us…or against us.”
Musharraff may lose his grip on power. But in the meantime, why are we so meek when it comes to attacking Bin Laden’s hideouts, and so tame in our relations with the Sunni-baiting government of the dictators in Saudi Arabia?
If Bin Laden is in Pakistan, why were we so reluctant to go after the monster, and so eager to take over Iraq, and precipitate the disaster that followed?
The entire acceptance of Musharraff’s policy is one of the most puzzling aspects of the Bush-Rice-Cheney political agenda. Already, the Taliban is resurgent in Afghanisan, on our watch no less. The Afghan government is at least trying to root out the maniacs who planned 9-11.
We have a debt and an obligation to seek and kill Al Qaeda, not just in Iraq, but in the heart of their operations, the mountains of Pakistan.
Barack Obama says he would send troops in to find and kill the terrorists in Pakistan.
It’s hard to disagree with his resolve.

So we unilaterally invade Pakistan and as a result a popular uprising forces Musharraff from office. The government that takes over Pakistan is Islamicist in makeup and now have access to the nookular weapons.
Is this a likely scenario or not?
No, Steve –
Do not expect to see a unilateral ‘invasion’ of Pakistan. We will do what we have to, prayerfully with the cooperation of the Musharaf government, or barring that, with the cooperation of a coalition of suppporters acting on actionable intelligence on firm targets. We have no designs on ‘ousting’ Musharaf at this time.
The term is ‘Islamic’ or ‘Islamist’ not Islamicist, and Musharaf is a muslim, as are manyh of the people in Pakistan, so your concerns about an ‘Islamicist’ government are not well-grounded.
This is an interesting part of the world to work inand an interesting culture with which to interact. They do things differently here. We are not about ‘Westernizing’ the Islamic world, just helping them to achieve a sense of security and stability that has been robbed form them by extremists (Islamic and otherwise).
This process will take a long time. Oh, and don’t sweat the ‘nookular’ (Please don’t mock my President) issue. The extremists thatwish us harm cannot even piece together a decent chlorine bomb let alone a nuclear device. I’m not too worried, and I serve here!
God Bless America!
