Rudy, Fred, and Mitt – Do The Republicans Have A Chance?
With Alberto Gonzalez facing political extinction, Iraq’s lawmakers on summer vacation, subpeonas flying from the Hill to the White House, and all these investigations heating up, it appears that the Republican candidates who are trying their best are walking into an environment that, barring any major blunder, pretty well favors a Democrat for President.
Rudy is sharp, independent, and the national press treats him very badly. His wife is under sharp attack by the hot Big Apple media. Too bad, because she is not running.
Fred Thompson holds off announcing. Is LAW AND ORDER finding a new part for him, or is the prime time southerner not ready for prime time and the heat of political battle? Maybe the new program will be a reality show, entitled, “How Long Will It Take Fred Thompson To Make Up His Mind?
Mitt Romney has all the goods: great intelligence, good looks, a semi-compassionate outlook, but he still has to beat back the imagery of flip-flopper. He’s flipped so much that if he were a hamburger on a grill, he would morph into a rock. I met and interviewed his wife three months ago. She is impressive. The two of them could be power and glory on the campaign trail. But Mitt must clarify his views. If he does, he may be the only Republican with a chance.
John McCain has faltered, but don’t count him out.
The big issue is not who gets the Republican nomination, but if any one them can be elected?
The White House isn’t helping, although Congressional Democrats are not as tough as they speak.
Interesting times call for courage and commitment.

I don’t think so, Larry. As long as the Democrats are running congress, Washington is going to Hell in a handbasket P.D.Q.
I say the chances look slim for the Republican party as a whole. However, I think Guliani could really give the democrats a run for their money once the democratic nomination question is cleared up. So far, the only dirt they’ve been able to dig up on him is his family. And let’s be honest, its not even that much of an issue at all. While I traditionally cheer on the Democrats (which I will likely continue to in the forseeable future), I would vote for Guliani.
If another Republican gets elected after thae job this one has done, I see no reason to remain a U.S citizen. I would move to Canada to avoid the embarrassment of being part of this country.
Hi, Larry!
I haven’t been able to post for a while – I am now in Iraq serving with the greatest soldiers in the world!
The political season is heating up – not just back home, but here in Iraq as well. Whoever gets the nod in 2008 had better be ready to deal in the international arena. I donot believe that America is ready to place Mrs. Clinton back in the White House. I do not believe that Mr. Obama has the experience, international savvy and the confidence of the American Voting Public (Let alone the Democrat National Committee) to make a serious run at the Presidency. The Democrats will likely put Mrs. Clinton up as their nominee and I expect Mr. Giuliani to take the Republican nod.
Whoever gains the ‘prize’ will certainly have to surround themselves with smart people who will keep their hineys out of the fire.
Here in Kirkuk, Iraq, elections are looming this Autumn that will not only help decide if At’tammini Province (Kirkuk) remains a part of Iraq or cedes to Kurdistan. Whatever the outcome, it is likely that inroads that are being made by islamic extremists will continue and it is gonna get nasty – stay tuned!
I am blessed that after having served for more than 20 years in the active force, I have the opportunity to serve again and making a positive contribution to our efforts to stabilize Iraq!
God Bless America!
And, for those who think that it is soooo bad living in the USA – go ahead and try to make it somewhere else with your myopic attitudes and see how far you get and how fast you come running ‘home’.
Amen Joe.
Hey Larry,
With the Democrats in Congress now, another Republican president will be elected in 2008. And to GERRY A–people like you are a travesty to this nation. People would bend over backwards to move to this great land of ours. Its liberals like yourself that hate this country that give us all a bad name. Go ahead, move to Canada. I’ll start a fund raiser to raise the funds for you to get out.
The Republicans are responsible for who may be the one of the worst presidents ever.
Lets explore this infamous list:
James Buchanan: His contempt for abolitionists and refusal to deal with the slavery issue made the Civil War inevitable.
Warren G. Harding: Looked the other way while his buddies went on a looting rampage of government coffers. He even lost the White House china to corrupt cronies in a poker game.
Herbert Hoover: Believed federal relief led to corruption, and therefore refused to provide any aid at all when the Great Depression drove millions into poverty and starvation.
Richard Nixon: Expanded Vietnam War into Cambodia, taped journalists’ and politicians’ phone conversations, sabotaged opponents and didn’t pay his taxes.
George W. Bush: Misled the nation into a disastrous war, fumbled a horrific national disaster, authorized secret wiretaps on civilians, and pissed off the rest of the world.
Unlike GERRY A, I intend to stay in this country and do best I can to ensure USA does not have to endure another GW Bush or a Nixon. Gerry A, stay in this country.
You give up too easily.
There are many more of us than you think.
Two words … Jimmy Carter
