More On The Airport and Why It’s Looking Like A Dump

More airport experiences for the Mayor and future Mayor to think about.

As I have said before, the only decent thing about the Philadelphia Airport is the people.

The airport restrooms are dirty and out of soap and towels. The Parking Garage is “signed” so poorly that a person unfamiliar with the ramps could easily get in an accident.

Information desks are lacking in warmth and directions. Courtesy hotel phones do not work.

NOTE TO THE REPUBLICAN CONTROLLED PARKING AUTHORITY — Ticket takers in the toll booths are not helpful with directions to visitors. Your parking lots are filthy with food scattered all over the place.

NOTE TO U.S. AIRWAYS —Your baggage claim retrieval is a mess. Delays are common. The TV screens are often confusing people by listing the wrong carousels.

NOTE TO TSA -TRANSPORTATION SECURITY ADMINISTRATION — TSA screeners are outstanding, but the people who “look” at the tickets and id’s rarely look at the person. These people, the first line of defense, need to be supervised.

Larry, I concur with everything you’ve said and would add one other problem:

The people who work the ground transportation desk are extremely unhelpful. I’ve witnessed and experienced their surly behavior. Once, on a clear day, a group of us had to wait nearly TWO HOURS for the shuttle, thanks to the GT people. At Christmas, I personally watched them verbally passengers. They make everyone take a number and then call those numbers at random or make people wait before calling a shuttle on one of the phones. Meantime, these employees are often talking to one another or on their cell phones, ignoring people who just want simple information. Unfortunately, if you want to take a shuttle or taxi from the airport, you have to deal with these lazy, uncooperative employees. I know the GT desk is the problem because I’ve called cabs and shuttles from the place I stay when I’m back in Philadelphia, and they’re always helpful and friendly and get the job done.

My advice for anyone going from the airport to Center City is to take SEPTA. You’ll get there much faster. If you’re not going to Center City, have someone pick you up at the airport. The GT desk is a joke.

I guess if the parking authority were “Democrat controlled” instead of “Republican controlled”, those same overpaid union ticket takers would just automagically be more helpful…
