Freedom For Libby On Fourth Of July – What A Country
The President has the power and he’s used it quite legally and with no remorse to cut short the sentence of Scooter Libby. It is a giant political mistake and one that sends a horrible message to the legal system. In many respects it would almost have been better for the President to wait a while and pardon the guy, which he will do eventually.
By commuting the term, President Bush has basically took a nasty swipe at the court system and U.S. attorney who doggedly prosecuted the case which stemmed from the outing of a CIA agent.
What will prosecutors on corruption cases around the country now say when attorneys plead for leniency? Is there a double standard in this nation for high ranking politicians? Definitely.
The case of Libby himself is not just on the radar here. It is a case of a President who appears to believe that fudging and ignoring the laws is ok.
This case will not crush an already weakened presidency but it will add to the growing disease off arrogance that threatens to further spread the appearance of impropriety that has sucked the power away from the Commander in Chief.
And that is a problem for all of us.

This administration has been so secretive and cynical about the rule of law that the Libby case might end up as small potatoes if the machinations of the Bush administration are ever revealed in the years ahead.
This is what a ‘C’ student will do when you make him president.
This administration is a shame on our country and the founding father’s values. In 1736 my family came to America for the freedoms in the new world, I doubt if they would make that trip today. It will take generations to repair the damage caused by the greed and lies that have been presented to the American Public.
We have leaders that are little better than the pigs in Orwell’s Animal Farm. All Americans are equal, but some are more equal than others. Frankly, it’s fitting that Bush took his action at the same time that Americans are celebrating the birth of their sham democracy. Shame on Bush, shame on Libby, shame on Specter, and the rest of this gang of criminal mediocrities that are destroying this nation and the world.
What does Specter have to do with this?
Larry
The fact that Specter is a ranking member of the judiciary commitee. I hope that answers your question, Larry.
Committee. Sorry ’bout that.
