Check Out Pa. Anti-Smoking Bill - It’s A Lot of Smoke and Mirrors
The Pa. legislative effort to ban public smoking has so many exemptions that it will make you sick!
Check the story out. Pa. is way behind other states in protecting you from second hand smoke.
The Senate version now goes to the House. Senator Greenleaf, the sponsor, doesn’t like the amended bill. Gov. Rendell is against it. YOU SHOULD BE!
Here’s an idea. Along with this soft-on-smoking bill, how about some more money for cancer and lung disease research to help some of the people that this bill will kill?
SHAME ON THE PA. STATE SENATE.

Youre right Larry, we need strong antismoking legislation. This bill would actually weaken Philly’s current laws to the point where most bars could reverse tide and allow smoking. That’s outrageous!
I remember they did that same thing in North Texas. No smoking in Dallas, Ft. Worth, Lewisville or any other North Texas city (Except for Irving). I’m not a smoker, but, my mom and her signifigant other are.
Just a few comments about the smoking bill….
1. How many “martini’s” were be consumed while this matter was being born? did you ever hear of a chain smoker wiping out a whole family on the road? How many of our leaders have been involved in DUI or speeding situations in the last year?
2. How about restuarant/pub/clubs be able to make their own rules. If they want no smoking, then post signs and STICK TO IT.
3. If I don’t like where I work, I find another job. The rest of the world does not revolve around what makes me or YOU happy.
4. If this is a health matter, then why is it that the health providers will not participate in covering the expense of smoking cessation? Racket or what?
5. If tobacco is so horrible, why is it legal?
Carmela:
You’re on shaky ground. Smoking kills. What else can I say?
But thanks for writing.
Larry
I feel pretty steady.
I see no comment on the health carriers not providing some help for the smokers to give up their addiction. But, wait…they will pay for the cancer that follows and the heart problems, again, I am confused.
I see no comment on the lack of concern of alcohol.
In fact, I dont see much of a comment at all.
I agree with Carmela! I am a Ex smoker, however my husband still smokes, and I am so tired of hearing that the bardenters etc shouldnt have to breath our smoke…. No one asked them to get a job at a bar, they choose to do that.
I took chantex to stop smoking, and NO my insurance wouldnt pay for it, as matter fact, they wouldnt even pay for the doctors visit to discuss my stopping smoking. Yes I stopped smoking and am glad, however that was MY choice. To me a anti smoking bill is taking away that choice. Also, cig smokers pay alot of taxes on a pack of cigs, The same people now that are complaining of the second hand smoke with be complaining when their taxes on diff things go up, because less cig tax is being collected.
