Enough Paris! Drunk Driving Enemies Take Note!

Lost in all the after-jail hysteria about Paris Hilton was the bottom line fact that she drove drunk and was sent to jail for violating her probation. Does that disturb any of you?

Drunk driving kills a lot of people in this country.

Paris Hilton has received much too much sympathy. So, I say, from an ungrateful nation: “If you really want to prove your worth as a human being, start by campaigning against drivers who drink and drive at the same time.”

Me feeling is that Paris Hilton took us for a ride after her short stay in jail, much like the convicted style-maker Martha Stewart.

The truth is what you say it is. For Paris, the truth lies in her videotape, her public actions, and her simplistic attempts to seek sympathy.

Once Again, Some Pa. Lawmakers Are Embarrasing

Those conniving lawmakers who took the secret pay raise in the middle of the night are setting new records for incompetence. Not all of them are in a funk, but many are showing their true mettle by:

Watering down a bill against public smoking.

Fighting Ed Rendell on enhancing early-childhood learning.

Refusing to pass special gun legislation for Philadelphia.

All of this adds up to a political gang that embarrases the state.

Voters have long memories.

Check Out Pa. Anti-Smoking Bill - It’s A Lot of Smoke and Mirrors

The Pa. legislative effort to ban public smoking has so many exemptions that it will make you sick!

Check the story out. Pa. is way behind other states in protecting you from second hand smoke.

The Senate version now goes to the House. Senator Greenleaf, the sponsor, doesn’t like the amended bill. Gov. Rendell is against it. YOU SHOULD BE!

Here’s an idea. Along with this soft-on-smoking bill, how about some more money for cancer and lung disease research to help some of the people that this bill will kill?

SHAME ON THE PA. STATE SENATE.

Republican Anger On Iraq Is Intensifying

Look for more key Senate Republicans to bail out shortly following the ove by Richard Lugar and other former key supporters. The political crisis behind the war crisis is at the tipping point,

Key instigator of the Republican rebellion, behind the scenes, is Senator John Warner of Virginia.

Ironic, isn’t it, that Republicans may be the catalyst to move the intransigent President to take some direct action to extricate the troops, from Iraq, but maintain a strong presence in the region?

Why Are There So Many Letters About Scott Graham?

I am stunned by the amount of email sent to me over the last few months about Scott Graham, the play-by-play man that the Phillies booted in mid-season. Outside of the immortal Harry Kalas, Scott was the besr of the Phillie’s broadcasters.

The tally shows that there have been more emails to me about Scott than any story except the Virginia Tech killings.

Did I hit a nerve, and what is the real reason Scott is no longer there?

I am a big Phillie’s fan, and with all due respect to the other broadcasters, the broadcast team needs to be treated just like the team on the field. It must be the best.

One other thing - “Sarge” Matthews has so many great insights, but his comments seemed to be buried in the broadcasts.

In this town, play-by-play is as important as RBI’s.

In the meantime, its been  an exciting season.

And hats off to John Brazer, the Phil’s super-creative promotions guy who helps make a visit to the stadium a fantastic show.
