A National Divide Over Stars and Politics — The Survey Says……

Are you star struck, or are you fed up with glittery celebs trying to determine the future of the country?

Last night was a big night for Barack Obama in Hollywood. Celebrities, including George Clooney and Denzel Washington, raised over a million dollars for his campaign for President. That is a million dollars in one night!

This comes on the heels of a new CBS News survey on Hollywood’s role in politics that was released this morning on KYW Newsradio.

It appears that the American view on celebrities getting involved in politics has changed . The CBS News Survey
shows 47 percent of the people think the stars should be involved in the process and 48 percent say they should stay out. In 2003 over 54 percent of respondents approved of celebrity politics.

Now this is interesting. 61 percent of Democrats say
yes to star politics, while just 29 percent of
Republicans think its allright.Conservatives do not like the idea of political celebrities but moderates approve by 54 percent.
Maybe Democrats and moderates go to the movies more
often. The truth is that most Americans know that Hollywood is more of a Democratic bastion. That would explain the difference.

The survey is interesting. Every citizen has a right to get involved in the political process. It would be unfair to deny anyone that opportunity. But almost half of those polled in this survey feel that celebrities are out of line. That is a big number and may be a reaction to celebrities using award shows and other venues to make their points.

One thing is sure. Senator Obama is very happy with Hollywood today – one million dollars happy.

i do believe that free speech is not to be altered in anyway,in this country.so it would be unfair to not allow “stars” to be involved in politics.the problem is that due to there financial statis and the fact that they are always in the public eye they are given an unfair advantage over the common citizen.to me an actor is nothing more than someone who likes to play dress up and makebelieve.i am also not convinced that pop singers are creating art.it is ashame that many people in our country are actually influenced by these characters.i would bet that many people would not be able to recite the rights that are guaranteed to them by our constitution,or even know the words to the star spangled banner.is there a problem with our education system, what we consider to be important and what is not?or is the problem the media, and hollywood, and possibly certain political parties constantly throwing these people in our faces as a destraction from what is important?

Well, How many CEO’s really know the words to the Star Spngles Banner as well.
Gosh, I can hear Jeff Skilling now humming it.
Hollywood stars are not liked by the right because thy do have a left til, however, if money buys influence or attention a lot of the hollywood causes are social, or charitities or focus to a disease or country or plight. Hmmmm Yeah, makes sense why the right doesn’t like them

Oh how I wish we had an off-season in politics, like we do with sports. We did not have time to digest the 2006 elections.

Hilliary, Obama, Dodd and McCain should spend more time in their current day jobs. Our country could use the attention.

you are right hollywood types do put money into charities and social causes.makes great PR and is a good tax right off.true there are ceo’s who do not know the star spangled banner, intresting to note that a person in this country can become a demigod without knowing much about the country that gives them the ability to do so.
